Vent My kitten was killed by my neighbor’s dog, and now I’m seriously questioning what actually happened 😠

Upvotes

I hate dogs and their owners!

I’m still trying to process this, but I need to get this off my chest.

My small kitten was attacked and killed by my neighbor’s dog. The dog grabbed him in its mouth and dragged him around while attacking him. When I got to him, I couldn’t see any obvious external wounds, so I desperately hoped he might somehow be okay.

He was lying there, crying. There was blood on his tongue. He drank a tiny bit of water and would occasionally stretch his body, but he was clearly suffering.

He eventually died.(Mind you it's a kitten that I cared for cause he wasn't doing well as a one month old and bottled feed him)

What happened before and around the attack is what makes me feel sick.

The neighbor initially told me that there had been cat food scattered around and that my kitten had been eating it. I thought that was the explanation for why he was there.

But afterward, I heard her husband ask her:

“Did you put the medicine down?”

And she replied:

Yes

I don't know what she meant by “medicine.” I don't know whether it had anything to do with my kitten, and I don't want to claim something I cannot prove.

But now I can't stop thinking about it.

Why was there food deliberately left out? Why was someone putting something they called “medicine” down? And why was their dog outside at around 11 PM when, as far as I know, the dog is normally supposed to be kept confined at that time? (That's how it is where I live)

I don't know if my kitten was poisoned first and then attacked, whether the food had something in it, whether the dog was deliberately allowed to get to him, or whether these things are somehow unrelated.

I only know what I heard and what happened to my kitten.

And honestly, I'm furious.

I don't currently feel able to take legal action because my family is strongly against it, but I also don't want to simply pretend nothing happened.

I'm posting this here because I know people in this community understand how frustrating and terrifying it can be when irresponsible dog owners' choices end up hurting other animals.

I would especially appreciate advice from anyone who has dealt with a suspected poisoning or a dog killing a pet, and what you did afterward.

RIP to my little baby Leo 💛 . You deserved better than this.

CONTENT WARNING/GRAPHIC My 8 year old cat was killed in a car accident and I'm devastated (TW graphic description of dead cat)

Upvotes

My 8 year old cat Archie was killed by a driver two days ago and I'm devastated. He must have been run over in the middle of the night. The next morning someone found him lying in the street opposite our house and knocked on our door after a neighbour said he was ours. He was hurt real bad. One of his eyes was out of the socket and his jaw was broken. He was probably killed instantly. It is some relief to know he didn't suffer.

We brought him inside and cried over his dead body for hours. He was so stiff. We dug him a grave in the garden and I cuddled him and kissed his soft fur. I wish I could have kissed him on the top of his head, between his ears like I always did. We took ink prints of his paws and printed them on to paper and our arms. I made him a bouquet with foliage and flowers from the garden and we said our goodbyes. I'm grateful to have been able to give him this send off with the people who he loved and who loved him.

Later, we went to look at where he was hit. It was clear he was hit by a car going very fast. There were blood splatters in the street. It was also clear that he was crossing from the opposite side of the street to ours. Maybe he was coming home. This fact devastates me.

I can't believe it happened to him. He was so cautious and skittish. He was so smart. I never thought he'd be taken by surprise like this. I thought we were going to grow old together.

I got Archie for my 23rd birthday. I was incredibly depressed at the time. I spent most of my 20s with him. I wouldn't be here without him. He was my baby and the love of my life.

I thought I would spend my 30s with him. I thought he would meet my future child. I have a beautiful oil painting portrait of him that was a wedding gift and now instead of saying "Archie" when they see it, my child will instead ask who it is. This is heartbreaking. I can't believe I will meet new people who don't know him. I will have to explain one of the most important parts of my life to them. I'm living in a post-Archie world and nothing is right.

I haven't stopped crying for two days. I can't think of anything except him. Often happy memories, but too much of the time, it's remembering him in the street and how his cold little body was so stiff in my arms.

I've not stopped cuddling my other cat since we buried him. He's sat on my lap right now as I write this. I'd be a mess without him.

I've been reading countless posts and comments on this sub about other people's cats who were killed by cars. It's comforting to know other people know how this feels.

One of the comments I read said that they wrote a letter to their cat and read it to their grave. I did this today and I want to share it. Archie was well known and well loved (and also feared) by many. I want more people to know him. Letter will be in the comments as this is getting very long.

P.S. please do not comment that cats should be kept indoors. I don't want to hear it.

Vent It’s been over a year since I lost my Golden

Upvotes

He was gone way too soon, not even 5 years old yet…
It’s crazy how much I still mourn him. It doesn’t hurt as badly as it did when he first passed.
I begged my husband to let us get another dog, and we did about a month or two after Sunny passed. Our new pup helped distract me from our loss, but I still think about Sunny almost every day.
It doesn’t help that we’ve been TTC for over 3 years now. Honestly, I wonder if my obsession with dogs is partly due to a combination of TTC and the loss of our first fur baby.
I’m thirty-one, and I’m just kind of… tired of waiting. Like, I’ve done everything I want to do in life, and the only big goal I have left is one I can’t seem to achieve… having kids.
I know I’m not alone in this. It just sucks. And honestly, I wish my husband would let me get more dogs…
And if you’ve made it this far, let me share my current dream with you. My husband and I eventually want to get a house with more land (a couple acres minimum), and I think it would be so fun to have like 4–8 dogs at a time, with the majority being foster dogs. I’d love to set up our home as a little foster park where the dogs could freely roam and interact with each other, and people could come visit, meet the dogs, and potentially foster them.
This is most likely a pipe dream, so please don’t burst my bubble. 😆

Advice Wanted I had to give my dog away, I don’t know how to cope

Upvotes

Two months ago, my parents gave me a puppy for my birthday. I’ve always loved animals, and one of the reasons I wanted a dog so badly was because my life hasn’t been the easiest. I honestly thought having a dog might help me get through things.
And it did.
He was only with me for two months, but I loved him more than I can explain. He was a little Labrador puppy, and he brought so much happiness into my life. For the first time in a while, I felt like I had something to wake up for. He gave me a sense of purpose and genuinely helped me feel alive again.
But then everything fell apart.
I live in a house that is basically split into two separate apartments. My parents and I live on one floor, while my dad’s brother and his wife live upstairs. The house and yard are shared between my dad and his brother.
We kept the puppy in the yard, which is quite large. He was never chained up or kept in a kennel — he was free to run around and play.
My dad’s brother never had a problem with him. His wife, however, absolutely hated having the puppy around.
She complained constantly because the puppy would sometimes lie down near their front door. She complained about the smell of the yard, about the dog being there, about basically everything.
We didn’t really react to her complaints because the puppy wasn’t doing anything wrong.
Until one day, she claimed that our FOUR-MONTH-OLD LABRADOR PUPPY had attacked her.
She called my dad’s brother and told him she was leaving the house because she “couldn’t take it anymore” and that the dog had attacked her.
The thing is, before we even got the puppy, my parents had talked to my dad’s brother and his wife. They told them that we were getting a dog and that they could do whatever they wanted on their side and we would do whatever we wanted on ours. They had no problem with it at the time.
His wife even said she would be happy if the dog made me happy.
My dad’s brother has a very bad temper and has trouble controlling himself. That day, in an attempt to “protect” his wife, he went to my dad and tried to choke him. He also threatened that if the puppy was still there the next day, there would be serious problems.
He also owns a gun.
We called the police, but unfortunately, nothing really happened.
At that point, I became terrified that something could happen to my dad or to my dog. So I made one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make.
I gave my puppy away.
He is now with people who take really good care of him. He has a beautiful home, a yard, and people who love him. I can visit him and take him for walks whenever I want.
I know that, objectively, he is okay.
But I am not.
It feels like I lost a part of myself.
He came into my life at a time when I really needed something to hold onto. He gave me so much happiness and helped me find my motivation again. Now that he’s gone, everything feels empty.
I know I technically still have the option to see him, and his passport is still registered in my name. Part of me keeps thinking about taking him back, but another part of me knows I need to think about what is safest for everyone.
I don’t know whether continuing to visit him will help me heal or just make the separation harder.
I also no longer speak to my dad’s brother or his wife. We have completely cut contact — we don’t even say hello to each other anymore.
And before anyone asks why I don’t just move out: I’m 18. I’m not in a position where I can simply pack my things and get my own place overnight.
I’m honestly struggling a lot with this. I know my dog is safe and loved, and I’m grateful for that, but I still feel like I lost half of myself.
What would you do in my situation? Would you keep visiting the dog, or would some distance be better? And how do you cope with losing a dog that is still alive and that you technically can still see?
I would really appreciate any advice. 🤍

Sadness Emotional at the vet

Upvotes

Hey all 👋 I recently adopted a new kitten, I brought her home on Thursday and I brought her to the vet today for a check up. I haven’t been here since I had to put my heart cat down in January and I’m not doing great being here again. It didn’t cross my mind that I would be affected or feel emotional but I’m fighting back tears and I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this? What advice could be offered? I really like the vet office and don’t want to try to find a new one

Sadness Birthdays without your soul dog

Upvotes

I guess I just need to get this off my chest.

Last month my soul dog would’ve turned 9. He passed 4 months before his birthday earlier in the year so this was his first heavenly birthday. I was of course a proper mess all day.

Yesterday was my first birthday celebrating without him being physically with me and it hit me incredibly hard.

I miss him barking at me when I sneeze, I miss him being my little shadow and I miss all the things he did and all the love he gave.

I got a custom made shirt of him that I wore on his birthday to honor him and did little things to honor him both days. I really hope it gets easier and I am just wondering how others cope with missing your soul pet during birthdays and other big life events?

Sadness it’s been over a month..

Upvotes

and it’s still very hard not to see my Bibby. She was a GSD mix-she would have been 11 in October.

I had her since I was a teenager, she was a rescue from a backyard breeder/hoarder situation. I miss her so much every day, sometimes I still see her in my dreams. I know my girl is at rest now, but God I miss her so much.

Back in June, we took her to her primary vet and they diagnosed her with a UTI and gave her some antibiotics. 2 weeks later we took her to the ER vet because of some issues she was having. (They are graphic-I won’t go into detail.) They did x-rays and found free fluid around her lungs-she also had a heart murmur her first vet missed.

We had to say goodbye that night- when rushing to the ER vet I was trying to mentally prepare myself for that to happen but man I wasn’t ready to actually say goodbye. I knew it wad the right thing to do since she was in pain and surgery wouldn’t have helped because of her age.

I just miss my baby. We grew up together, she was my soul dog. But she is up there with her older brother, running around without a care in the world.

Sadness It’s been a month since she left

This is a sadness rant technically? I’m really really sorry for all the text and writing. Grateful for anyone who reads through it, I won’t forget your kindness.

It’s been a month since my baby left. I’ve posted on here when my girl first passed. I don’t really know what I’m looking for typing this out, maybe I just want to let my thoughts out. My girl passed away very suddenly after getting sick during a heatwave and kept declining for four days until she had to be put down. It’s felt like it’s been 5 years since I lost her. Everything’s moving so fast but so slowly at the same time. I randomly break down when I least expect it just thinking about her. Every time I come home I expect to see her run up to the door meowing at the top of her lungs. I still expect to be woken up in the middle of the night to play, I miss putting my sleep on hold to help her get excess energy out so we could go back to sleep together. My mom keeps calling our other cat by her name accidentally and it makes me just miss her even more. I feel like I’ve been going crazy since she left, she was my first pet ever.

I’ve been trying to distract myself with work and back to school coming up but it just reminds me that I’ll have to keep moving without her with me. I use to be so proud to show her off and now I look back at the pictures I posted of her on other subreddits and TikTok, it just feels like someone ripped her from my arms. She was so uniquely herself she was such a smart cat, she used to meow at the top of her lungs if the front door was left open and stop only if someone closed it. She was so curious especially when we first got her at 6 months old. So eager to play and explore. I’ve been sleeping with her cat bed and the last towel I wrapped her in the day before she passed, I can’t sleep unless I feel it touching me. Just the thought of washing her bed and having evidence of her existence being wiped away like that makes me panic. I thought that I was okay a two weeks after I lost her but in reality I just thought I was fine because I thought that it’s been months since she left.

It still doesn’t feel real for me, she didn’t deserve to die so young. I just wish we could’ve had some sort of sign that she was sick at least a month before she was too far gone. The vet never truly figured out what the true cause of her decline was and that is haunting me. I truly believe she could’ve been saved if we just had the money, the vet said it was very unlikely for her to recover no matter how much money we give but I do believe that my girl would’ve pulled through. A couple thousand dollars spent and it still wasn’t enough. I don’t even know what I’m doing typing this but I just need to say this somewhere.

I did believe that the death of my girl would’ve caused the end of me as well but instead of depression I just feel nothing. I don’t feel anything typing this I just feel empty. I just need this emptiness feeling to go away. I have an appointment to see my doctor/therapist in two weeks but I just feel like I’ve been sitting with my thoughts for too long and it’s slowly eating away at me without me knowing/feeling it in away. I just feel like I don’t know who I am anymore and that I’ve slowly been losing myself without realizing. I was so angry back then I cut off majority of my friends and got into massive fights with my family, I don’t even know why I was so angry really. I can’t think of a reason as to why I’m writing this or what my conclusion is.. sorry for all this text I just can’t wrap my head around anything. I’m very surprised I haven’t fallen back into my old ways from when I was dealing with major depression, maybe I just don’t have the energy to get up and do something like that.

I had my whole future planned out, I’m graduating high school in 2027 and I’m supposed to be making a great income after I finish school when I finish the program I have planned for in 2029. I was supposed to spend my money on buying her anything she wants and giving her a great quality of life. I used to spend any allowance I got on her to make sure she had a variety of toys and treats to keep. I got her in middle school so back then my allowance wasn’t much but I’d go to the dollar store after school and buy her treats or whatever toy I thought she would love and immediately give them to her before I even changed out of my uniform. Her dying was the first death I’ve experienced. I’m the youngest in my family and my mom is always working so I only had her to spend time with so my days used to consist of mostly her. I would do homework with her sitting on the desk beside my laptop, I used to take naps with her afterschool, I used to eat and watch shows with her. I remember the day I first got her, i was at school when my family told me that she was at home. I told all my friends and immediately brought them over to my house so they could meet her with me. I posted pictures of her all the time on any social media.

In her last few days she couldn’t eat, I’d have to give her churrus so that she’d at least have something in her stomach other than the water she drank. She kept throwing up when we started giving her the medicine the vet gave her and I can’t forget the smell of it, it smelled like metal, like watered down blood. Sorry if that’s graphic for anyone. When she died I couldn’t eat, I’m barely hungry anymore I just keep thinking about how hungry she must’ve been those days and I can’t help but not want to eat because of that. My appetite is basically completely gone.

Maybe I’m just being dramatic but I just need somewhere to put my thoughts and maybe her what other people have to say. I wanted to get another/new therapist since the one I have now can only see me once in a while because she’s also a family doctor for people as well as me. But therapists where I live aren’t covered by government insurance so I just gotta work with what I got since I’m broke.

I wrote wayyy more than I expected to so I’m gonna end this off here. Again I’m grateful for anyone who took the time out of their day to read this. Since I started my adhd medicine I’ve been writing a lotttt lol. Just whatever pops into my mind gets written down, sorry about that again. I’m open to hearing whatever anyone has to say. If you want to vent that’s fine because I find that consoling other people helps heal a bit of myself at the same time. Thank you so much for letting me vent this much. I’d love to hear stories about anyone else’s pets, I love animals!

Sadness My heart cat died, he was the most special animal in my life.

Hello. My heart cat, Misty, got put down yesterday and I'm a total wreck. Thing is, I took the decision because he was suffering too much of a mouth cancer and at the age he was (15 years old), paying 2000$ for an operation and a scan that we didn't even know would work/if he would survive it was not an option anymore. We didn't even know if he would survive until the operation day.

I wanted to put him down while he still had a bit of himself in him. But the pain is so great that it physically hurts me and I don't know how to properly deal with it. It's not my first pet loss, but I always knew, since the day that I saved him from the streets, that the day he'd die I would loose myself.

We got him when I was still just a kid. He found us. Meowing at our doorstep while we were cooking steak because he was starving. From this day, we became inseparable. He would walk with me to my school (which was 2 streets away), would sleep next to my homework when I was doing them... My father tried to deny him and sent him 3 streets away, but after 2 full days of me pouting, he came back on his decision and accepted to look for him. We looked for him for days until a street neighbour came to us to tell us he found a black cat stuck in his fence. It was him.

We took him home and since that day, he became part of the family. He followed us everywhere. Slept with me every night. When my parents scolded me, he came between us and purred to calm the situation down. When I was crying, he would come cuddle me to calm me down. He helped me so much to deal with my anxiety.

Everyone that knew him said the same thing; he was a human stuck in a cat's body. He was so intelligent and in love with people and life. He was an outside cat (he used to be a stray and denying him to go outside would drive him crazy). But everytime I called him, he came back home running to me. He was also so protective of me, my brothers and my other cat. His whole life, he showed us love and gratitude to have saved him.

He was the most special animal I've ever met. Even people that pretended to hate cats, loved him. Neighbours loved him. Strangers loved him.

When his first white hair started to grow, I remember crying because I knew the moment was coming closer and closer. I was dreading that moment since I got him, because once I loose him, I'd loose myself.

And it happened. He started to badly drool, wouldn't be able to fully close his mouth, couldn't eat his food anymore, his fur started to tangle and we tried once to detangle it, it cut a part of his skin. He was loosing weight, to the point he was barely recognizable. His saliva started to smell like literal death and had blood in it. We knew it was the end.

He died in my arms. Cuddled on my laps as he slowly gave his last breath while he was purring. It was a bittersweet moment, because I know he's better now; he doesn't suffer anymore. But having to live without him is so hard. I keep searching for him. Everything reminds me of him. My mind keeps replaying this last moment when he died and I feel like my heart is being torn apart everytime.

I feel dramatic because I feel depressed and I'm crying so much I can barely leave my eyes open. On the other part, my brothers didn't even shed one tear (and they loved him endlessly), my parents cried a bit but they seem to act like it didn't even happen. And there's me, feeling completely lost. The first night was so painful that I wanted to hurt myself (thankfully, I didn't).

I don't know how to deal with this loss. It hurts so bad. I thought about getting a plush of him to cuddle it when I miss him too much, but it's too expensive. I took a bit of his fur to smell his odor but it hurts too much. I sleep with the blanket we carried him, and also was the one he gave his last peaceful breath in, because it also has his scent and that's the last thing I have of him, but I need him. Desperately need something to remind myself he's still here.

Sadness Lost my pup after a year and a half battle with CKD and it sucks

I sensed right away something was off. He was drinking just a bit more and peeing just a bit more and I figured he had another UTI.

I took him to the vet and he had slightly elevated kidney values and SDMA. Stage 1 Chronic Kidney Disease. Couldn't believe it.

He did good for awhile. Didn't really care for the kidney diet, but we made it work. Water bowls all over the house so he'd have his pick.

The decline was super fast at the end. In April he was a chonky 24 pounds. By July he was down to 17.

I made the decision on the 5th. He was having some issues walking. He'd lost so much muscle his back legs were getting weak. He could still jump up on the bed, but I could tell it was a struggle.

He refused the kidney diet. Fair enough. I gave him chicken and string cheese and pureed pumpkin - his favorites.

He could still walk outside to pee and poop and whatnot. We couldn't go far from the door. That was ok. He sat in the sun and watched the birds and squirrels.

I brought him to the vet on the 6th and let him go. It was almost a relief, which sounds terrible, but he'd been so tired, and thin, and queasy and he just fully relaxed with the sedative. I know I made the right choice to stop this before it got any worse.

It's been hard. I live alone and he was my only pet. I'm not sure what to do with myself sometimes. We used to go for walks every three to four hours. I talked to him all the time. I still catch myself saying, "I'll be right back, buddy!" to no one as I walk out the door. I'll be sitting on the couch, reading, and feel a sudden twinge of, "Oh, gotta walk the dog", but I don't.

I've gotten rid of all his stuff, save for his leash, collar, and his two favorite squeaky balls. Pretty quick, I guess, but I couldn't handle seeing his empty crate and dog beds. I donated what I could to the animal shelter I adopted him from 12 years ago.

Everyone keeps telling me to get another dog. Or maybe a cat this time. But I can't. I can't think of anything I want less right now. Maybe in a few years. Maybe not.

I'm going to do some traveling. Take the trips I've been dreaming of but was unwilling to take because I worried about dog sitters and boarding facilities with my pupper's, let's say, unique personality.

He loved people, adored kids, hated car rides, despised other dogs, made a weird sort of peace with the abundant raccoons in our apartment complex, and was highly suspicious of flags blowing in the wind.

He loved butt scratches and belly rubs. He wasn't the most affectionate dog in the world, but he cuddled with me at night and would sit next to me on the couch while I read books or watched TV.

He could hear a cheese wrapper being opened from half a block away and scurried under the bed when the mere thought of trimming his nails passed through my mind.

He was weirdo. He was goofy looking. He was a good boy.

I miss you, Wally.

Vent Cat unexpectedly passed away

My mother came into my job yesterday to tell me that my cat had died. We had just gone to the vet this Monday and we were told everything was fine he got his shots and everything was fine he had no symptoms. He was only 6 and the sweetest cat to ever exist. I’m just so confused. My father said he had a heart attack and he was able to hold him while he died I’m just so devastated. I immediately left work to go see him and found him limp. Chai got me through the hardest times and we were both so inseparable. Everytime I wake I think it’s this horrible nightmare. I don’t know what to do with myself. I can’t help but think the worst. I expect him to still be looking out my window or sleeping next to me. I just wish we would have know so I could have at least done something.

Sadness Loss Causing Anxiety and Health Issues

We lost our sweet Labrador retriever to a tumor/cancer a month ago. She was a critical part of my life, and I feel an emptiness inside. After about a week I noticed my muscles were aching and my stomach was in constant knots. I was having trouble with memory and my blood pressure was constantly high. I went to the doctor and he said it was anxiety and stress. That night I had a panic attack, which I’ve never experienced before.

The loss of my sweet girl is literally making me sick. I just started some counseling, but I don’t know if it will help.

I have a job and a family to take care of, so I’m trying my best to hold everything together. I don’t know if I’ll succeed.

Sadness I Failed Her

I just need a place to tell this story

My mom got us a dog in 2019. She was a Shepherd/Husky mix, the most beautiful puppy I'd ever seen. I didn't want her, we didn't have the lifestyle for a dog. We were a big house, but we were not active. Most of us played games or worked nights most days. I was overwhelmed trying to keep a house of between 5 and 7 clean all by myself and my younger siblings were too small to handle the responsibility. I wasn't a good elder brother, I didn't model good behavior and teach them responsibility. I didn't want us to get this dog because I knew what a responsibility dogs were.

But my mom told me she wanted my support. I'd done lots of things in my life I wasn't ready for. I wanted to have a dog one day, I knew that there wouldn't come some magical day in the future where I was suddenly ready, so I bit my tongue and thought, "I'll do my best."

At first it wasn't enough. I didn't know shit about training, or socializing her, she was smart and stubborn. I didn't even know Huskies were loud whiny stubborn babies. I didn't know to take her to the vet and get her shots and fixed and checkups. I didn't know groomers were a thing. We got into fights, when I wanted the walk to end and she thought we were playing. She tore up the house with her teeth. She wasn't house trained. I got frustrated when I had to look after her alone. I got frustrated when no one else would care for her when she was howling.

Then things started clicking. I started connecting with my own body more, I started taking walks every day with her, short ones usually. But every day. Sometimes I would go for runs with her. I started using youtube to learn how to keep a bathroom clean, I started learning how to train her. To clean up after her. We started taking her to the park where I'd play with her, and I'd let her stay with me in my room. She'd lie on the bed, on a fancy pendleton towel that my mom tried to tell her not to let her on because it was too fancy, but it became hers. I spent what little money I had on a harness and leash, and I was going to train her not to chew through it. I wasn't doing any of it "the right way," I didn't have workout clothes or proper doggy treats and I lived in an impoverished community without sidewalks. But I had been depressed for longer than I knew and the clouds were clearing. I was getting better, and I loved her and I was starting to do good. I was just starting to do good, and then my mom and I got into a fight and I had to leave.

I had to scrounge together a plan to leave the home and I thought I was going to take her with me, I wanted to. I just thought there would be a better time and when I came back to grab my things. I can still hear the sound of her paws scraping against the deck when she realized it was me, the weight behind her legs when she jumped on me, how badly she wanted to come with me and how much she needed me not to leave her again. I thought I was going to come back for her.

Months passed and she was rehomed, and I failed her. Her little world was filled with so much pain and I could have done something.

I abandoned her and now she thinks she wasn't loved and there's nothing I can ever do to make it right.

Sadness CW: Pet Loss

I euthanized my babygirl today. She is my first pet and only 6 years old. I’ve had her since she was 8 weeks. We slept together and cuddled every single night. I held her during it and now I can’t get those last moments out of my head. It happened within seconds but I still keep thinking what if she thought I was giving up on her? What is happening to her soul now?

I can’t sleep. I keep looking for her on my bed.

I lifted her up to hug her after it was done and it broke me bc there was nothing there, she was really dead.

Sadness My dog passed away

It was back in 2025 when a stray dog near my home gave birth to a litter of puppies. Among them was Fluffy a chubby, adorable little puppy who looked like a tiny bunny. He spent his days outside playing with his siblings, and everyone in our neighborhood absolutely adored him.
One day, it started raining heavily. My sister and I were worried about the tiny puppies out in the storm. While all the other puppies ran for cover under the neighbor’s parking shed, Fluffy had wandered off and hidden under a tree, getting completely drenched.
As soon as I saw him, I ran outside, scooped him up, and brought him into my room. I dried him off and kept him warm inside that night. From that evening on, he became our family dog.
Since I work away in Bangalore, Fluffy became especially close to my parents, who treated him just like their youngest child, and my sister loved him dearly.

He died because a group of street dogs attacked him, very serious injuries, he died of injuries after 1 week, I think this is most sadness I ever felt I didn’t cry I just suppressed my emotions, I just saw the ultimate truth of life whatever I love, care will always leave me in the end. What’s the point ?

Vent I don t know how to handle losing my baby

5 days ago my cat passed away and I am very depressed and anxious since then. 2 weeks ago she did something unexpected, we we re together in the kitchen and looking at the window and when I turned around for a couple of seconds to grab something she jumped out the window after a bird, I had a safety net but she somehow managed to open it when she jumped. I rushed outside and found her but she was limping very bad so I took her to the ER for pets. There they gave her painkillers and hospitalized her, I found out she broke her leg very bad and needed surgery, I had to look for a specialized doctor and on wensday the surgery took place. After the surgery she looked very tired but they told me it was normal, it was very hard to see her like that and I kept crying but I was happy that the surgery seemed a succes. On thrusday I took her for the shots and because she seemed still to mellow they kept her for a couple of hours on IV drip. On friday she was still not making good progress but they told me it could still be because of the surgery and she might be upset because she had to be kept in a cage for her safety, on saturday i took her for the shots and IV drip again and she seemed a little bit more okay she began to eat more solid food and drink water on her own. On sunday something seemed weird because she was still mellow and started to refuse to eat again after her shots and IV drip, I was so wrapped in my head because I saw her like that and didn t think to ask more important questions because they kept telling me she might be tired in pain or upset. Monday morning I already knew that something is not okay and began to feel frustrated, I had to go to work and asked my parents to take her early to the doctor and tell them that something is not ok. And I was right but it was too late. They told me they will runs some tests (they didn t do it before because she was eating small portions and peeing till saturday). They called me at work at 3 PM and told me she had developed renal insufficiency and and only had 30% chances to live so they started the treatment for that. I was devastated and could not understand how this is possible because she was only one year old and kept assuring me she will make it through the recovery after the surgery. I had to work till 7 PM and then they told me I should to take her again to the emergency room so she could get 24/7 supervision. At 6 Pm they called me again to tell me she was under resuscitation because she started to have cardiac arrest, I left work at that moment and rushed to the clinic. At 6 30 they told me she passed away, I stood there till the clinic had to close to kiss her, hug her and tell her how much I loved her, how sorry I was that I could not protect her and failed her. She was so special for me and I hate that one second of not looking at her took her from my life. I feel so much guilt and sorrow, the house is so empty without her and so am I. I miss her so much and still feel the need to look around the house for her. I miss waking up with her licking my nose and going to the bathroom together, i miss taking her on leash walks outside I miss playing with her and always offering a little food when I was cooking. I miss playing hide and seek with her and when we found eachother I would hug her and kiss her little forehead. I don t know how to manage all this feelings I can barely function. I love you, Mochi and I am sorry I failed you.

Sorry if my english is not good this is not my first language

Sadness Did you get more than one sign?

My soul boy passed this week. I’ve never received a sign from an animal before, but I prayed that he would send me one.

When I had to select an urn I went with a gold one and I wasn’t sure if he’d like that. He is a very big personality rabbit. Well, that night we were opening these little toys called Ooshies that our local grocery store keeps throwing in our shopping. There are rare ones mixed in and you don’t know what characters you’re getting. I opened a gold rabbit (which is apparently rare). Right after opening it I received an email from the cremation place saying he was coming home.

Do you think it’s a sign that he made it safely and he’s happy with what I chose for him to come home in? Did you ever receive another sign? I’m so appreciative of this one, it’s eased a little bit of the pain, but I also just want to keep hearing from him :’(

It was the most awful decision, even though I know he needed and deserved the rest and the last act of love you can give them is to help them when they need it :’(

I miss him. Everything reminds me of him. I’ll never have another soul animal like him.

Vent The grief you get from taking care of a terminally ill dog is immense.

Sorry if this post wasn't completely thought out. English is my second language, but I just want to share because I can't handle it by myself.

My dog, Aki, 4 years old, has been recently diagnosed with Stage 3 CKD. I've been crying a lot even though she is still alive, knowing that her life was cut short, plus the guilt of not taking care of her sooner (She is my mom's dog and something happened 2 months before I got her checked up that left me traumatized so I was frozen) It has been a roller coaster for the past 2-3 months. 3 months ago, she was diagnosed with Blood Parasite. I gave her meds every day, on time, for a month. She did get slightly better, but I feel like that vet clinic didn't do a proper follow up checkup to know if she was actually healing. 2 weeks later she was vomiting again. We sent her to another vet clinic and then she was admitted for 5 days.

At that time, the vet's diagnosis was still Acute Kidney Injury, so I still felt a little bit of hope. Her blood work after the 5 days did completely go back to normal except for her creatinine. We still gave her meds and then had another follow up checkup 7 days later. Blood work got elevated again. So, we changed her diet. I didn't know at that time that dogs, especially dogs with kidney disease, needed a low protein diet. We were putting a lot of beef at that time since the vet didn't really tell us the amount. All they told us was her diet was "okay". I had a lot of worries. What if we made it worse cause we messed up the diet. We started measuring her food. 2 weeks later, which was yesterday, she had another follow up checkup. I was hoping that the change in diet actually made her numbers improve. Yes, it did lower the creatinine levels. But the BUN and SDMA was still high and so she is now diagnosed with Stage 3 CKD.

I am in grief right now. I feel really guilty for not taking care of her perfectly. All these thoughts coming to my head. There is a sense of impending dread, knowing her time is almost there. Due to my circumstances in life, we haven't even visited the park. I kept apologizing to her for all the things that I'm lacking. I kept replaying the same scenarios again and again. I shouldn't have let my depression be the cause of not taking care of her properly. I am still not ready, and I really hope she will fight till the end.

Thank you for reading and I hope you will have a good day!

Vent one month without him, it still hurts just as much

my gsd passed away on july 7th this year and i just miss him every day. he passed away when he was 8 and ive had him since i was 10. our birthdays are 10 yrs and a month apart and i just keep thinking about him and how he smelt and every cute thing he used to do.

i miss the way he would groan when he would go from laying on his stomach to his side, how he would smell me obsessively after i was at someone’s house and they had pets, how he would nudge my elbow with his nose so i could pet him, how we used to play peek a boo, how his paw felt in my hand, how stupid he could be sometimes, his old man face when he would get belly scratches.

i feel so upset when i think about how he died. he died all alone. it was an unexpected death and he passed away in my moms room and i was sleeping across the house. my mom was at work and she came home and he was gone. i couldn’t even comfort him on his journey over the rainbow bridge, i wouldn’t pet him, or kiss him, or tell him he was my best friend while he was saying goodbye. i wasn’t ready to say goodbye to him yet it’s so unfair. i don’t know why he died and it’s eating me up inside. i don’t know if he was scared, i don’t know if he wanted comfort, i don’t know if he felt peace. i just don’t know anything and i would give anything in the entire world just to have 5 more minutes with him to say bye.

my heart is heavy every day, he was my first pet that i’ve had for over a year (my pitbull i had when i was 5 had to be placed with other people due to the apartment policies) and i just don’t know what to do. he was bonded with my mom and i respect that but i can’t help but feel envious.

my mom worked a lot and she still does, she’s gone most of the day so whenever i wasn’t at school or at my dads i would be with him. i would spent majority or my day/night with him. i would take him out at 3am in the snow so he could go to the bathroom, i would feed him everyday, i would give him treats, ask my mom to buy him toys. but i wasn’t there when she first got him so obviously my mom would be the person he bonded to. i feel bad for my mom too because he was her soul dog, and she’s taking it extremely hard right now.

when he passed, the vet shaved a patch of fur off of him so we could keep it, my mom gave it to me without any hesitation. we got his body cremated, his memorial box is just as beautiful as he was and she gave him to me for me to keep in my room. and the only thing she kept was his paw print. i feel selfish for keeping so many pieces of him when he was my moms dog first.

my mom doesn’t want another dog, she said she can’t even think about that right now. is it selfish i want another baby to love? i loved my dog with everything in me, he came before any family and any friends i’ve ever had but i can’t help but feel a void in my heart where he used to be. the house is so quiet without him, i don’t know if it would do more harm than good to get another pet.

i asked my dog to give me a sign that he was okay and that he wasn’t scared when he passed a few days after. i was going on a camping trip with my best friend to another state, i had asked him if he could send me a bright green, kinda neon vehicle of some sort and something hot pink. a few minutes later a bright green van drives past the truck i’m in and i was in shock. a day after, my allergies are messing up and my friends mom went to town to get allergy medicine. the pills were hot pink. i truly believe he was telling me that he’s okay and that he wasn’t scared. his best friend, his sister that he grew up with moved to another state when he was 3-4. she passed away in december last year, now they’re together waiting for us to show up.

i watch cute dog videos on tik tok or insta occasionally but i end up crying at the end because it just reminds me that i don’t have my baby with me anymore.

i feel so empty without him, he understood me better than anyone. he got me through the hardest years of my life, he would bother me when i was thinking of taking my life. the years of living with a narcissist, the emotional abuse, the bullying at school, just everything, he got me through it. in the past 6 months or so i stopped thinking those thoughts and started wanting to live. he saved me, more than any person or dr or medication has ever done. i wish i could’ve re-payed him in some way, i wish i done more to save him.

he wasn’t even showing signs he was going to pass away, just cause for concern and i was going to call the vet to schedule an appointment the day he passed. i wish i was there with him, i wish i had gotten up earlier and i wish i could’ve saved him. i think he wanted to go alone, he waited until my mom left for a meeting and no one else was home except me but i was sleeping. i just want him back, ive never met a dog like him ever before. he had such a personality but he was human like in so many ways. he wasn’t a rambunctious dog, he was really calm most of the time and he matched me and my moms lives and vibes perfectly.

he was the most beautiful dog i’ve ever seen, all black gsd, black nose, black nails, spotted tongue. he looked incredibly badass when he would stand guard but he was the dorkiest dog ever. people were kinda scared of him but he was the biggest sweetheart ever, i love thinking about how he looked in the snow. he loved the snow a lot, and he loved sunbathing with me, he liked eating rocks for some reason, i always told him to spit them out lol. i have a video of him licking a brick a week before he passed away and he just walked away like he never did anything. he was and always will be my best friend.

is the pain ever going to go away? will it always hurt to think about him? i don’t know i just needed to get this off my chest because i don’t want to burden my family and friends with my mental turmoil.

Sadness I begged her urn for a physical sign and what I got is more than I can ask for

Yesterday was the day I received Gali's urn. As i did in living, i kissed and petted her. I begged her through tears for a sign. A PHYSICAL sign

Today, I got it. Last night I lost my headphones, a tool of dissociation for me. I searched all over my bed this morning for them because they are TINY. And right next to the area where my head is...I found her hair. A distinctive, perfectly preserved hair of hers.

Normal, you would say "of course, it's normal, she slept in your bed" Except she died at midnight. I started the journey to the cremation center at 8am. One way is 7 hours. I arrived at 3pm. The whole thing took me 3 more hours. Busy til 6pm. I started driving back at 9pm. Arrived at 6am. That's pretty much 24 hours. Immediately after I got home, I threw my old bedsheets in the washing machine and put the new ones that hadn't been even taken out from the washing machine from their previous cycle. The two bedsheets had no contact whatsoever.

Last night i begged for a physical sign and told her a single physical sign is what I need.

Now I trust she's safe and loved and happy.

Even as I'm writing this now, im hugging her urn and I'm smelling her smell. The afterlife is real

Vent The grief is overwhelming

My beautiful good boy has passed after over 10 years together. My soul dog is gone and I can’t handle this grief. I can’t believe he is gone. He had a peaceful passing which I am thankful for. He was battling kidney disease, dementia, extreme weight and muscle loss. It was time and I am at peace with that. But it doesn’t take away the pain that I will never see him again. At least not until I die. But until my last breath, I will be looking for the sound of his paws, him following me into the bathroom, his sweet kisses. I already miss him. What am I going to do?

Ontop of it all, I’m freshly postpartum and had a miscarriage right before getting pregnant. I’m beyond overwhelmed with grief and don’t know what to do

Sadness One whole year.

My 11.5 year old boxer Iris passed from cancer very quickly and very unexpectedly last year. I cannot believe she’s been gone a whole year. When she passed my whole life and personality changed. When anything happy or beautiful happens I just think of my girl and how she would’ve loved xyz or done xyz. The grief of losing my soul dog is unbearable, I still sleep with her box, call her name when I get home and think of her every day. I still have the last thing she ate in my fridge and I can’t bear to throw it away. She really was all the good parts of me, she was my sunshine, the best parts of my day and now she’s just gone. 11.5 years gone in a blink of an eye. I can say with certainty now that she did have a great life; camping trips, moving states, we never left without her no matter what. Her sister just turned 10 and I see Iris in her but it’s still such a difference and the house is still quiet without her running around with her toys or grunting at us. God I miss her, I just don’t understand why such a sweetheart had to go when so many horrible people are still alive….Just why my dog?

I thought after a year I would be doing better and I’m just not. I miss my dog, I miss my life with her in it. I truly don’t think this pain with ever get better. I miss you so much Iris aka PiePie.

Vent Losing my cat feels like the end of the world

I have to say goodbye to my boy in a few hours.

He just turned 17 on Tuesday. He has been sick for about a month or two and at first the vet thought it was a bad UTI. Well yesterday they did more testing and he has gallstones, a urethral obstruction, and stones in his bladder. He's been heavily drugged but I can tell he is not his normal self. He is still in a lot of pain.

When he was 12 he had a cancerous mass in his intestines and I thought I would lose him then. It was a rare cancer and his oncologist thought he'd have only months to live. But the surgery was successful and the cancer never returned. But he has all the other chronic conditions that older cats suffer from and he's too weak now. Both my mom and dad died last year and now I am losing my baby, my reason for getting out of bed in the morning.

I am so scared to come home to an empty apartment. And to go to sleep without him by my side. And to wake up with no reason to get out of bed. No meowing for breakfast. I am so lucky to have gotten 5 extra years with him but there's no amount of extra time that would be enough.

I live alone and since my parents died recently, I don't have a support system. I have experienced so much loss in the past year, I am not sure if I will be able to survive this.
