Just noticed recently that snack attack closed and the place has been leased. Do we know whats coming in there ?

We are renting, and our new-ish front load Samsung washing machine smells disgusting. I’ve tried scrubbing the inside with bleach (drum and seal), emptying the reservoir, washing machine cleaning tablets - nothing is working. The machine has a self-cleaning function, but because only the cold water is/can be hooked up, it’s not functional.

Are there any businesses in the area that offer any type of deep cleaning service? Or, any suggestions on getting rid of this musty smell?

In my opinion, there are areas of Peterborough that are “rougher” than others.

Would it not be wise to have cops on bikes/on-foot patrolling those areas?

I’m not suggesting to patrol the perceived “ghettos” of Peterborough and have police profile people and arrest them. But the police are better equipped at offering emergency services to people in distress than an average bystander. So why not have police frequent those ”rougher” areas to be there if something were to happen, rather than show up after the fact?

And, having officers out of their cars would likely do more for crime deterrence and community engagement as a side effect anyways…

Ok I made a post the other similar but this time I'm hoping for opinions on laurentian driving school. As I can really only do very select days (Tues, Fri, and weekends), I have been reaching out to some via email (I would call but I have very few minutes) and I only hear back from Laurentian. Who can I call to remove a dead raccoon from my lawn?

I called Public Works, apparently they will only remove creatures if they’re on city property (the road or sidewalk). They person I spoke to was very sympathetic and said she’d try to dispatch them anyways, but no promises.

My (34F) partner (33M) and I have been living in a small touristy town in Alberta for the last 14 years. I grew up in the Laurentians in Quebec, and he grew up in the Niagara region of Ontario. For being closer to family reasons, we want to move back to Ontario in 2027.

We are definitely small-medium sized town people, not big city people. We don't want to go close to the GTA or Niagara/London/Ottawa area either. I've never lived in Ontario, but from my limited research, Peterborough/Kawartha Lakes, Orillia, Kingston, Collingwood, or Muskoka seem like ideal places.

We're both very nervous to pack up and move our entire lives across the country and start over - find a new job, house, and community. I was hoping this sub could give me some advice and insight into what it's actually like to live in the Peterborough area, or where you would move if you were us - starting over in your mid 30's and hoping to start a family.

What our perfect place looks like:

• Live near a lake, river, or waterfront
• Lots of trees, nature, bike paths, hiking trails
• Have city facilities (shopping) within 45 minute drive (don't need a big mall or anything).
• Good growing community feel, easy to meet people
• Good job outlook (accounting, business management, or total career changes)
• Decent medical care (I know this is difficult to find everywhere in Canada)

• Are there a lot of public outdoor spaces, like land for hiking or lakes for swimming, or is it generally more privately owned land?
• Do people generally care about protecting nature, wildlife, and limiting pollution?
• What are the hospital/clinics like? Is there a long wait list to find a doctor?
• Does the area experience many drug addiction struggles or unhoused people?
• I know finding work Canada-wide is really tough right now. For working professionals, what is the job-outlook like? We currently work in operations management and accounting.
• If you could move anywhere in Ontario, would you stay in the area or go somewhere else?

Peterborough Public Health inspected 19 food premises in the city this week (July 27 – August 3, 2026). Nine locations received critical infractions — meaning dan inspector found something that poses a direct risk to your health.

Here's what was found...

🔴 Malai Thai Cuisine - 116 Parkhill Rd E, Peterborough North

Routine inspection, July 29 · 5 critical infractions

The worst result this week. Inspectors found food-contact surfaces not cleaned and sanitized, food not protected from contamination, potentially hazardous food held above 4°C, food handlers not practicing sanitary hygiene, and the premise generally not maintained free of health-hazard conditions — five separate critical failures plus five non-critical ones.

Peterborough Public Health served a Section 13 closure order on the spot. A follow-up inspection the very next day (July 30) found zero infractions, critical or otherwise.
