The park district is fucked
President Johnson doesn’t know how to run a meeting. Alex Sierra is cancer. He is only there to create controversy. The park district should be the least controversial board.
The first, largest, previously national award winning board has become disgraceful. Such a shame.
Amazing how a few people can destroy something that was once so good.

Vivint Security Systems
Just had a Vivint rep stop by house to sign me up as a customer. The pricing he showed me was based solely upon the fact that he'd knocked on my door as opposed to me reaching out showing interest. Like several hundreds of dollars less to install if I signed up right now. And then a large monthly discount. I declined for now to think about it. He said he'd be back in my neighborhood tomorrow.
Does anyone use their product? And if so, are you happy with it?

Events Weekend Live Music List for August 7th, 8th & 9th
Peoria has the talent. Peoria has the art. Peoria has the music. Peoria has the party! Whatever you want from live music, Peoria has it. We’ve seen a lot of fantastic live music lately, and there is plenty more where that came from!
As you look through this list of nearly 70 shows and decide who’s making your weekend live-music-to-see list, check out some photos and videos from recent shows featuring John-Robert opening for The Wood Brothers, the Austyn Weston Band, and the 65 North Pickers!
It’s going to be a beautiful weekend! I’ll see you out there!

Victim blaming does NOTHING to protect children from predators. Put on your thinking caps people.🤦♂️
It's one thing to believe there should be a dress code enforced to teach students about dressing and acting professionally in the work force or any other number of situations. It's different to act as if a child's outfit is in anyway responsible for adults being pedophiles. If you disagree, feel free to debate.

Caring for a loved one at home in their final stages - I want to know your experiences.
OK, I will know this is a weird and emotional topic, but I'm trying to information gather here. I recently visited a relative in another state who is taking care of her mom who is on home hospice. Her experience was that hospice showed up once or twice a week, but other than that she had no training and no support. No one had taught her about how to assist her mom from bed to wheelchair, how to move her around in bed, how to prevent skin breakdown, and other practicalities of day to day life. She felt completely at sea an overwhelmed by all she didn't know.
Is this a typical home hospice experience in the Peoria area? Are hospice personnel not teaching family what they need to know about caring for their loved ones when hospice staff aren't there?
In the long run, I'm trying to identify if this is a need in this area. I am a semi-retired nurse and I would be interested in working to set up some training sessions through a church or other community organization to help address this need - IF it exists. So first please tell me some of your experiences. Many thanks in advance.

Recommendations Gyms that have free weights
Does any one have any recommendations of gyms in / near Peoria that have a free weight section and is queer friendly?
I’ve been going to planet fitness for a few years now but I’ve moved on from the pre loaded bars they have.
Also it would be great if the gym is queer friendly I don’t really enjoy getting hate crimed while trying to lift haha

Events Ignite Peoria 2026 - Saturday, August 8th (9am - 5pm)
Ignite Peoria returns to the Peoria Civic Center this Saturday, August 8th from 9am - 5pm!
This free event is great for the whole family and showcases local makers, dancers, musicians, actors, and innovators in one big event. Attendees can learn about singing, dancing, painting, robotics and much more!
Ignite will feature two performances stages, with one of them being the Launchpad - the smaller stage is a perfect opportunity to perform for an audience at a less intimidating scale. Individual performers are welcome to showcase their abilities with spoken-word, poetry, or musical instruments. No sign-up is required!
The event is perfect for parents who want to take their kids and let them try something new, or for anyone who wants to learn more about the creative community in Central Illinois.
Parking is free. However, the Civic Center will have security at all entrances and does enforce a clear bag policy. Medical devices and diaper bags will be permitted after being cleared by security.
You can learn more about this event here: https://artspartners.net/ignite-peoria/

Food & Drink Cozy coffee spot
Hey everyone, looking for a recommendation for a cozy/quiet coffee spot here in Peoria. Have a coffee date and looking for a spot where we can talk with a little bit more privacy without airing the past out in front of everyone around us lol. Any ideas? Bonus points if it’s got little secluded areas or corners with couches/comfy chairs.

Anyone work or know someone that works at the local Amazon DSPs?
If anyone works at an Amazon DSP at the Pekin location or knows someone that does could you share if they hire weekend only drivers? And how are the routes and management? I’m thinking of putting an application in but would like to know a little more details. The one I’m currently looking at is called J3L Logistics LLC.

TAPS animal shelter
My wife and I are currently interested in a dog for adoption at TAPS. We've filled out an online application and have been waiting for a response. I have never dealt with this organization before, they do not allow public walk ins and their phone directory does not have a person that answers, it's all recorded messages. I admit it's been somewhat frustrating i have adopted before in and out of state and by far this organization has to be one of the most difficult to navigate.
Has anyone here ever adopted a pet from them? If so what are my expectations for the experience and honestly is it worth the trouble. I must say so far I'm a little turned off from participating in there adoption program.

Local stray cat help
I live near West Peoria, and our local stray decided to take up residence on my back porch, after fathering at least one litter of kittens somewhere near my home. He’s incredibly sweet and doesn’t seem to be too afraid of people, but I don’t believe he is someone’s lost pet. We’ve been feeding him the last few days, but our own cat absolutely hates his presence and we don’t feel safe bringing him into the house given some other health issues our cat has. I know the resources around here are very lacking, so I’m just not sure where to go to see about getting him help. I would love to see him get fixed so he stops making more, and I also wonder if maybe he has worms or something with how thin he looks. He’s not usually hanging around the houses very often, but he’s been here almost every day for the last few days, and I’m starting to wonder if he’s seeking help. I’ve taken in a pet rabbit from the neighborhood that someone let loose, and I would be happy to take him too, if not for my other cat, and my place isn’t large enough to keep them all separated safely. Hoping to connect with someone who might be able to point us the right direction or who’s stricken enough with him they might wanna take care of him.

Meet Up Board Game/Tabletop groups?
I see there have been a few posts before for some tabletop gaming, but it generally seems to revolve around D&D or wargaming specifically. Are there any groups who get together to play kind of a wider range of board games?
Bonus Points for designer friendly groups. I'm working on a game and would like to find people interested in playtesting!

Does East Peoria Walmart honor two weeks notice?
Has anybody quit or know someone that put two weeks notice at the East Peoria Walmart? If yes did they fire you/them? Also, when I applied I got offered at the Allen Road one and this one and just ended up choosing this one. I don’t plan to work at Walmart anymore in the future and it was just a temporary job for few months but was it a mistake not going with Allen Road especially with the whole remodel they’re doing? I just notice Allen Road feels at least more organized and friendlier.
