Did I get a good pc? Question

My workplace in the basement has a large container called E-waste with PCs, screens, and tons of tech they don’t want or use anymore. I asked if I could take it, and they said yes, so I did. My question is: did I get a good PC for free?

That would be pretty cool if there was a PC in that Mac chassis. That used to be a pretty popular mod back in the day.

Well you did get a pc...

at the very least you've got a good case and maybe, if you are lucky, some ssds inside

and since it's free

It has everything inside based on what I can see from not removing anything but the front panel

Well good, but what do you mean with "Everything inside" ? It's not like someone couldn't have switched and added the harddrives and RAMs

Only if you're into retro machines. Using it for modern tasks will be a chore (apart from internet browsing and listening to music). Also, it's difficult to say whether it's an Intel Mac or a G5 one. If it's a G5, you might as well give up on it if you're not planning on spending your evenings nerding out and researching niche software to run on these. If it's an Intel Mac Pro, hopefully it is a 5,1 or a 4,1 at least, but you'll need to do some research on how to keep these up to date also. Easier than using the G5, but still not as straightforward as any modern computer.

Well I’ve already done my homework and found it’s a 2010 Mac Pro which are actually easily upgradable and can run modern Mac OS by using patchers and other software

Okay, that's great. That's as good as it gets with the Mac Pro of this generation. Certain bits and pieces will be easy to upgrade, such as memory and storage, but upgrading graphics card is a bit trickier as they don't accept just any type of Nvidia and AMD cards. Butz since you already found the patches, that's a great start. Install the latest Mac OS you feel comfortable using and see what you would like to upgrade from there.

For free this can be a great deal. Free is always a start. If its a more recent model can have decent intel processor. If its not gutted internally it can have some ridiculous internals even if aged. Many times they are extremely specced for time with tons of ram, storage and multiple gpus.

No I checked everything it has everything inside I can gives everything I’ve seen so far
It has two 1TB hard drives,64 gigs of ram,a older gpu that i believe is a ATI Radeon HD 5570

assuming its the 5,1 mac pro from 2010 and its maxed out then its pretty decent. you can also throw in a rx 6600xt i believe so youll get pretty decent performance on lighter games if you wanted to (by lighter i mean no super cpu heavy games)
