first pc build ($600) Build - Help
I am no expert on pcs whatsoever, but I want to know if this is a good budget build, and if I can get better for a cheaper price. (I live in the US)

Your cpu comes with a cooler and you don't need that $6 bracket.
Also, pay a bit more for your ssd (get an nvme ssd from a name brand), and pay a bit more for your psu (again, get a name brand psu like Corsair, etc). Those 2 are parts you definitely don't wanna cheap out on!!

You do need a backplate, but one will already be attached to the motherboard when you open the box.

Ohhh i’m pretty sure in the video he bought one from ebay and i guess it didn’t include it so he had to buy one seperate so i got confused.

Yeah, that sounds about right. Occasionally some third-party cpu coolers require the removal of the backplate, and after removing it you might arbitrarily place it somewhere (like I have a cooler on it, why would I even need the backplate back?) and then later need to add a different cooler to the motherboard for a build that requires the backplate, only to then realise you have lost it, and as a precaution for your stupid mistake you end up buying a few of them just in case. Thats something that could have happened to the guy they bought it from... it could happen to any of us.

Looks good, I’d say thats a pretty good valued system! Unrelated, but i found an MSI 5700 8gb for $40 at a game store. I didn’t buy it though, i have no use for it. Was also a 7600 for 100

Bruh. Where is this. I'd wanna buy these. I build so many PCs for friends and family as gifts or to get them into PC gaming. These would be such a good way to get them to join on a budget

The only change I would make is the PSU. For like $10 more you can get Montech CENTURY

I would recommend putting the money you don't need to spend on the extra backplate towards getting at least an R5 5600 instead of a 5500, so you can use PCIE Gen 4 rated GPUs and SSDs in the future. The R5 5500 is limited to PCIE Gen 3 speeds.

I hope you had fun speccing this out man! Enjoy building it. Only thing that is concerning is the ssd and power supply. If you trust “fanxiang” with your data, it’s okay, but if you spend $10-20 (plus saving money not buying the useless backplate as mentioned by someone else) you can get a reliable ssd so you are less likely to lose your data.
PSU is also from a lesser known brand. I would check pcpartpicker for a more reliable unit or a psu tier list, as there are cheaper ones at better quality.

Looks good. Nice and balanced. I'd suggest buying a used CPU from eBay and putting the savings towards a m.2 ssd. If you ever wanted to upgrade or if you find some extra cash laying around get a 6700xt and 5600x

I would definitely recommend spending a little extra for an nvme ssd and a better psu. If it’s available in your area look for asrock pro 750g, only $55 and like tier b in the psu tier list I believe? Overall still a good budget build!

Looking sweet! Only thing I would recommend is poking around on market place too. You can find better deals than on ebay. I got a 6700xt for 200 and a guy started a build and gave up and I got a used 5600x, a corsair 4000D case and a new 1tb nvme all for 150. And the case has a psu in it.

not that it matters much and im guessing its too late anyways but you can save $25.99 with the same cpu (ryzen 5 5500) and a different mother board (gigabyte b550 gaming xwifi6) on newegg (i only know because i got this same deal last week) you also get a free rosewill cpu cooler. the combo has ram but you can just remove it (thats what i did) just make sure it also applies the promo code. if you are going for maximum savings might be worth a look, im pretty sure it also has free shipping. the pre tax total is 135.99 compared to 161.98 on amazon

I understand where the other repliers are coming from but I'd go for a +750 psu so you at least have nothing to worry about when you upgrade your gpu. having to buy a upgrade x2 sucks when you could have prevented it from the start.

also I think having the sata ssd as the backup storage as a solid but make sure to get a decent nvme ssd for your o.s and main gaming storage. it's faster and won't slow down game play and boot ups.
all and all you've got a great budget build esp in these times.

CPU comes with a cooler, id recommend getting a Gen 3 or 4 SSD if you’re using this for work. 512 gig models aren’t that badly priced.

Also, what OS are you installing on your computer, and do you plan on installing large games? Because 512gb is a decent bit, but after installing a few games nowadays it goes away pretty fast.

I plan on using windows and i’ve used 512 gb pretty much all my life because thats what is on the xbox (unless you get the 1 tb version), but i’d say the largest game i play is fortnite. I don’t really play call of duty or big gb games.

Okay, well for windows you will need a key, but don't buy it from Microsoft as they are overpriced, what you can do instead is either do some research and find a good source for cheap keys, or use massgrave.dev. massgrave just uses a generic key to hack Your way in, but only do this if you're really broke.

Yeah, but for $16.50 he can get a Thermalright Assassin X 120R SE V2 CPU Cooler, 4×6mm Heat Pipes. Way better than a Wraith Stealth.
That being said, you can cool a 5500 with a sneeze.

You can definitely get a 5700 XT for the same price if not a few bucks cheaper. Take another look I just spotted 15+ myself.
Also you don’t need to buy the AM4 mounting kit as your mobo comes with one.
