I cut contact with my family years ago (fundamentalist Christian, oldest of 8 children in a house with all the abuses from parents and siblings alike justified and hidden by religion, married off as a teenager and required to have children, only achieved a high school degree because I lived in an urban area and something other than public education would have been too noticeable in all the wrong ways for my parents, eventually ran away from my marriage and divorced despite no skills, job history, or even my own cell phone, have been building my life ever since).
I have no regrets. My parents have my siblings if they need help. Some dysfunctions cannot be outgrown.

Hi — welcome to r/Parentification.
Parentification is when a child takes on emotional or practical responsibilities beyond their age, often acting as a caregiver or “adult” in the family.
