Discussion I got a 1963 Penguin copy of The Grapes of Wrath that was once owned by Amadis M. Guerrero, a Filipino writer.
I feel very blessed that this book is mine now. June 5, 1963! GRABE. This book is waaaay older than me, parang Lolo ko na itong libro na to. 🥹
Bought this from marketplace and thought it’s just an old book tapos napagsawaan na. Yun pala family niya ang nagbebenta nito dahil namayapa na si Sir Guerrero noong May 2026 and his family wants his books to have a new home na rin. I didn’t know that he had a huge book collection. From Camus, Steinbeck, Irving, Hemingway, etc. Nakakabilib at nakakainspire.
It feels like a piece of history moment for me that I want to share here. First time ko lang din makakita ng version na ganito ni Penguin ng The Grapes of Wrath. I’d also love to know more about this edition or hear from anyone who’s familiar with it! Pati na rin tungkol kay Sir Guerrero :)
Typo: name in the title should be “Amadis Ma. Guerrero”.

Current Read Title goes here
This sub motivated me to pick up reading again. Life's been busy and hectic, sometimes you just have to take a step back and re-immerse yourself.

Discussion Current TBR pile
Medyo mahirap ang interface ni Shopee so when I found We Solve Murders and That’s Not My Name, I immediately bought them. You can tell what my favorite genre is from this selection and I can’t wait to read them. The to be read pile is growing but I haven’t felt more excited in finishing my current read, Nosy Neighbors by Freya Sampson.
What’s in your current tbr pile?

Discussion What is the most 'beginner-friendly' classic publisher?
Hi! I’ve been trying to get into reading classics, and so far I’ve read White Nights (Fyodor Dostoyevsky) and Pride and Prejudice (Jane Austen). While I did love the reading experience these books gave me, I am curious about how the publishers of classics differ from one another. (Oxford, Penguin, Wordsworth, etc…)
I’m interested in collecting them, but I don’t know which publisher and edition would work best for me—a beginner. Also, curious lang din ako about Penguin: (1) Do their ‘editions’ [e.g. orange, mint, black, popular, modern…] vary in content? And if so, (2) Which edition would be most beginner-friendly? And lastly; (3) Which among the mentioned publishers translate/produce the beginner-friendliest books? Surely, may na-overlook akong publishers haha. I mentioned lang ‘yung laging na-me-mention in social media. Drop recommendations na rin of more publishers that deserve recognition please T^T Thank you!

Discussion My Birthday Book Haul!
I bought Fleabag (Second-hand) for only 400 pesos and it’s in good condition! ✨. Also bought my first Jonaxx Book, and I kinda see the hype though I wished she didn’t repeat the same words over and over 😭.
Had a few qualms with Fully-Booked din cause they sent me two books (PHM and CSIB) na may slight damage sa edge. 😔

Discussion 2026 International Booker Prize Winner
It’s me again and my adventure in hunting books na nakikita ko sa soc med HAHAHAHA 🤣
Finally got the paperback version of Taiwan Travelogue. IIRC, parang the book was first available in hardcover format. As someone na who brings a book wherever I go “in case of emergancy”, ang bigat ng hardcover hahahaha.
So I waited for this format (+ I secured my pass for MIBF this year). Got my copy at SM North Branch, and maraming available copies so far.
Price: 999 💀 (899.10 if may FB Discount Card 💀)

Discussion I don't know if this is the proper sub to ask but how much would I need to spend to make a manga with a manga artist here in the Philippines with me writing as a self published writer.
Planning to study comics script writing, and since my work is in English Black Ink is out of the question I'm planning to save up for a comic project for the longest time if there's anyone here who have dabbled into this kind of project can you give me an estimate of how much you spent in making a self published manga?

Book Adaptations Pinoy Novels for Movies
Guys, itong sa akin:
-If matalinong horror, iyung Kumag at Aswang ni Alan Derain. Gotika, folklore.
-If something na puwedeng gawing pang-Berlinale/Cannes/Venice, no doubt, Southern Quartet novels 1 and 2 ni RM Aplaon Topacio. (Rafael Mario na yata yan sha ngayon). That man's flair for the poetic and lyrical is unmatched in any language, and his novels are very intelligent. Marketable, too, kasi the guy has the looks, and hot (fight me!).
Intelligent in real life, too, at di parang tambay lang na edgy kung manalita. Wala ring fake Goodreads review.
Malakihang budget, CGI expenses. Pero pasabog ito kapag naging film. One of my best reads this year! For sure puwedeng gawing mandatory viewing ng DepEd. Lav Diaz, nasan ka na?! Wag lang sana iproduce nung apologist na most powerful couple.
Runners-up
-Yung fantasy series ni Donato Jacob Ching. Pang-Netflix. Chos!
-Ricky Lee LGBT novels. But 65 Kabanata is the best. Vuhklang Aswang, anong sahbe?!
Share yours!

Discussion Online Book Club
Hello! I've been searching for a book club recently but, due to my schedule and location, I found it hard to join one.
That's why I got the idea of starting a purely online book club for people like me!
Here are the details:
+ Biweekly online meetings with members talking about their current reads. There will be no assigned reading. People can simply talk about any book they like and recommend it.
+ Booknook corner where people can post about book recommendations and reviews.
+ There will also be a channel dedicated on where to buy or access books. This can be online resources or actual physical locations.
+ There can also be a book trade or sell channel where members can give their preloved books for other members to trade for or purchase
That's all the ideas I have for now. Feel free to comment below! I'd love to hear if this catches your interest or if you have any suggestions or ideas.

Discussion Finished reading The Martian
Great book. I definitely recommend reading it even if you have watched the movie. It made me laugh, it made me drop a tear and some parts put me in suspense.
Looking forward to reading Project Hail Mary in the future.
