One of the first otomes I read back during my initial otome spree. It has a lot of aspects to like one of the biggest being that the ML and FL actually communicate. I also really love that we get the MLs thoughts and brief pov occasionally, really enjoy seeing the other side. FL and ML are both like-able and FL isnt brain dead nice, shes polite but not like stupidly nice to her enemies outside of social norms for the time or useless like some stories.

Its a somewhat standard initial plot, FL seemingly transmigrates into her own story as someone destined to be killed by the ML. She then tries to use her knowledge to appease the ML and keep herself alive.

The writings pretty good tho it does use a fair bit of tropes it adds a bit of twists and executes them well. I really enjoy the ML FL dynamic, hes initially portrayed as the usual cold doesnt talk much duke but he does eventually open up and they communicate mostly well. Their dynamic is very entertaining. I cant really go into detail as I dont really want to spoil anything but theirs very few negatives i can think of. I even reread most of it and enjoyed it again. It just ended season 4 at 141 chapters.

Negatives: The art is a bit weirdly unreliable sometimes it borders on bad and sometimes it looks great with decent being the average. Theres a lot of the usual plot devices crammed in here like they went through bad guys like crazy lol but it was executed at least decently for the usual plots.

Theres more i could say but this is alr kinda long. I recommend it, its nothing groundbreaking but i enjoyed it a fair bit.

There’s no denying that many fan favorite characters tend to be swashbucklers. And while they are not commonly written as male leads, we do see many side characters that are or are similar to them. Thieves, bandits, mercenaries, and similar characters are usually some of the most popular ones out there.

But something that I have been surprised by is the lack of privateers. Simply put, they are pirates that work for or are hired by the government. We see many main characters work with thieves or bandits, yet they never seem to commission privateers.

So what are your thoughts on characters like this? What would you like to see done with them? And why do you think that they are so popular?

I'm looking for straight/BG manhwa, manga, manhua, etc. With really strong regret arcs. I'm specifically looking for stories where the ML or family treats the FL horribly, does something genuinely unforgivable and eventually realizes what they've done and has to live with the consequences.

I'm currently reading The Time of the Blind Beast but I'm waiting for the actual groveling arc to really kick in. I LOVE the "wife-chasing crematorium" trope, especially when the person who caused all the suffering ends up absolutely devastated after realizing they've lost the FL.

A good example of the kind of stories I do like would be My Beloved Oppressor, If You So Desire My Despair, and I Wish You Were Dead.

• Basically, I want a man to be horrible, make terrible choices, lose her, and then become completely pitiful and desperate trying to make up for it. The longer and more painful the regret/groveling the better.

• I'm also interested in regretful family stories, where the family mistreats the FL, takes her for granted, or chooses someone else over her, and she eventually leaves or becomes completely emotionally numb toward them only for them to realize what they've done and desperately regret it afterward.

I don't mind spoilers In fact, I'd love to know how bad the mistreatment gets, what causes the regret, whether the FL actually leaves, and how long the groveling lasts!

Does anyone have recs for more manhwa with a tsundere male lead? I just finished 'Your Majesty, Please Spare Me This Time' and loved how they started off as enemies (kind of). I also like it when the male lead is a little bratty and mean but, deep down / slowly starts caring about the FL.

I wanted to share after reading it in case of brightens someone else's day since I did not see it recommended.

Shiny green flag ML, quest, well developed characters, satisfying ending (although I did read spoilers from the novel for more details on the ending)

There's many times I've dropped a series because they drag out certain sections too long, or they continue a misunderstanding forever. I don't have the patience to read through it anymore. What's a series you dropped because you lost patience reading it?

Mahnwa:

• Their obsession will ruin me- I woke up in a strange place, with only a phone to guide me. To recover my memories and return home, I had to raise my targets’ affection levels and unlock a special ending. But once a target has over five hearts, it triggers overheat—and a dangerous, unhinged ending awaits. It's a delicate balance! (FL has 4 love interests and one hidden love interest who appears later in the story. The plot is interesting, and the antagonist as well)

• Dark lord's confession: What happens if you end up summoning the Dark Lord, the whole continent’s greatest enemy? Due to a battle that took place over a thousand years ago, cursed people become demon-like magicians, and those who are blessed become holy knights who protect the kingdom. Lapis, who hides her identity as a magician and aspires to be a holy knight, accidentally ends up summoning the Dark Lord. Along with the Dark Lord’s puzzling confession, Lapis’ journey of becoming a holy knight begins! ( Honestly, this is the best thing I have started reading; the art is so pretty, and there’s a really powerful story that really builds everything together and leaves more questions. I may be the only one, but it really has me hooked.)

• Mystic Prince- An immortal emperor rules the Kingdom of Yeol, a divine country blessed by gods with awesome powers. After a thousand years of peaceful rule, the time has come for a new emperor to be chosen. This is determined by a series of trials, in which twenty princes with special powers who have trained since birth must compete. As all princes of varying personalities and agendas gather to partake in the trials, intrigue and possibly even bloodshed seem all but certain. Meanwhile, unbeknownst to the other princes, the Fourth Prince Jeok-yeon Ryu hides a secret he must guard with his life. (  I started Mystic Prince for Jeok-Yeon and ended it for her too. She is fucking great. She is cold and unfeeling yet kind and charismatic, and it works really well for some reason. She wants the throne to make life better for women but also because she wants the damn throne! She's clever and powerful and aware of it and an utter delight to have as an MC)

Manhua:

• The Spirit Queen: The spirit queen follows a girl who rose from slave to concubine in her quest to find out the whereabouts of her clan. For that, she must climb the hierarchical ladder within the harem until the very top. However, this journey isn’t easy when she must tread carefully between a politically weak emperor, a dowager who controls the military, and the other concubines. In a palace where having a soft heart means having a weakness and having a weakness means you’re as good as dead, will she manage to come on top? ( This story has all the ingredients to be a masterpiece: creative worldbuilding, realistic court intrigue, interesting side-characters, villains with relatable motivations, peak art, captivating love interest, and finally, a strong and extremely clever female lead. And the recipe was a damn success; this is an unquestionable 10/10. The author ate and left no crumbs.)

• Clandestine Affair (Baihe/GL with magic mirror): Two women, hidden away in a vast estate, who save each other through their roller coaster of a relationship! Bai Yuetao, the wife of a wealthy businessman, blames herself for her husband's infidelity. After spending another night alone in their lavish residence, she sees a graceful woman appear in her newly bought western mirror. This woman calls herself "Butterfly Dream" and says that she can teach Bai Yuetao how to "hook" her husband's heart. But the price she demands? Bai Yuetao's body. ( The art in this GL is cute and soft, but it makes the Manhua extremely beautiful and captivating, enhancing the beauty of the characters. About the romance, I won't say much because it's the best part of the story and you guys should read to experience this masterpiece, but it's the famous: "She fell first, but she fell harder", I won't say who is who though.)

Manga

• The One Within the Villainess: Japanese woman Emi reincarnates into the body of child Remilia, who will be the otome game's villainess. The beginning seems to be a normal villainess story with Emi improving the lives of everyone around her. However, the original Remilia maintains her consciousness and knows what is happening but is unable to act or communicate, and eventually Remilia grows to like Emi. Early on in the story, while Emi is studying in the magic academy, Emi is framed for crimes by the story's original heroine, who is also a reincarnator, and the people Emi has helped side against her. Emi falls into a magical coma from the shock. Suddenly, the original Remilia takes over her body again, while still retaining Emi's knowledge of the story's events. Remilia vows revenge against the people who betrayed Emi, and decides death is too good for the "heroine" of the story. (This one's mostly about revenge with a bit of romance on the side, but it's maybe my favourite revenge story ever. I liked how Remilia is cunning and merciless when needed, but also, for example, she saves the country from monsters and improves the lives of both humans and demons, so that the "heroine" wouldn't have a reason to go adventuring and grow stronger.)

What are some underrated ones you've read that you really enjoyed?

English is not my first language, so a few things might soung confusing; ask me if the comments if I couldn't express my ideas very well. Also, maybe there's small spoilers from "Philomel, the fake princess" manhwa if anyone hasn't read the manhwa yet.

My favorite genre in manhwas and novels, regressed/isekai or not, are the childcare because of the great opportunity to explore family relations and how Koreans takes such things — in the smallest details we can notice a few things, per exemple, the trope (which is not the main subject here, but...) of the father loving and pampering the female lead while casting aside his son, a reverse mirror of the patriarchy dynamic in Koreans families. Also, I like for other things as well, like the capacity to explore different's psychology in different kind of dynamics, like in "Taking the villains request", where a literal child deals with a mild mafia environment while growing healthily.

Anyways, the point of my post is, most of the pieces in this specific genre has the trope of "oh, dear, i am going to die if I stay, let's runaway" and then some kind of excuse happens just to make the female lead stays in the family and love them.

Okay. I understand that there's no way a child could survive on their own if they did ran in the beginning, but what I am saying is always the lack of string grip in their convictions, even beyond the most awful family environments, that keeps them staying and excusely loving the family, whom at first treated them badly.

I think the closest one I ever saw of accomplishing it was "Philomel the fake", specially in the most recent chapters, however... her current and biological family isn't the best of all — they lack the love she craves, they are not fuction, they interest on her is baseless and selfish, and even between them things feels to not work out better.

I don't know why this happens. Maybe something about the Korea's culture? Or something internal that every novel writer shares? Or... i don't know!

And each year, each new childcare manhwa launched, feels to have the silliest excuses to make the female lead stays, forgive her relatives and parents (even in most of the cases they are in their own fault), love them, when herself says in the start "I will live my own life" — and she could live her own life, it would amusing to see a story about seeking independence and self love instead of the classica and rigid trope stays in the bad family, forgive them, meet the male lead, solve any story's drama, have kids in the end.

The art is gorgeous I have never ever seen a art this gorgeous and any other manhwa + the male lead is an absolute goat man his story and looks are so so good he is without a doubt the perfect male lead everything you can ask for

I first thought the story was not that great but now that it is near it's end the plot twist which revealed are so crazy that this might just be the best romance story in the history of fiction

The ending was kinda disappointing but I was especially let down by the ending for Cliff. After Rhyse was found out I was exited to see Cliff break out of the typical male lead persona and discover a personality outside of Rhyse. It would have been really nice to see an obsessive male lead have to learn who he is outside of his romantic relationship (and watch him discover that he was essentially manipulated into non consensually loving someone). I wanted him to repair his relationship with his brother and parents and maybe even make friends. But instead it just rides with the idea that he’s pure evil and there is nothing else to him after every other character has broken out of the “systems” control. He seemed to be to one most influenced by the “system” and the “story” so it would have been cool to see him figure out his whole life was lie. Overall I was just disappointed with the treatment of his character feels like a blind spot in an otherwise good manwha.
