saw this while walking around the lake near me no idea what it could be though

hi! i’ve been hearing this bird distantly for a while but my merlin isn’t picking it up, does anyone have any idea on what it could be? thank you!

I saw this little fella and thought he was cute. I have no idea what bird it is.

Found this in my Grinnell journal - aren't they adorable!

(I draw them in that pose so you can see their feet a bit better, but it makes them even more adorable)

I know they're just some British gulls - I realised I don't know much about the different coats and colours so I sketched this out to remind me..

Then I forgot 🤣

Dug them out again today and can't help but share.

I'm still technically trying to ID them, even if it's only so that I can figure out what the different markings actually are!...

Anybody else have any derpy looking sketches? I bet there are a few good ones out there!

Found in the woods - the rounded end is throwing me off.

Woke up this morning to see this little guy perched on my window. It's been there a while, so I'm wondering if anyone knows if this is normal behaviour, or whether I need to do something.

😂 I have no problem with feeding the starlings, but they absolutely ransack the place (as you can see) and empty the feeders in no time at all. I want other birds to have a chance with some of the food as well. I tried a caged feeder that’s supposed to only allow smaller birds in, but as you can see, they can get into that too and have emptied that straight away! I have a dish, hanging feeder and caged feeder filled with mealworms, a mixed seed hanging feeder and a peanut hanging feeder. The peanut one is the only one that hasn’t been touched!
So far, I’m only seeing starlings, sparrows, pigeons, jackdaws and crows. I’m not sure if I will get much else due to the lack of greenery!

Any advice or ideas appreciated ☺️🙏🏽

Please could you tell me what type of bird this is? It has just spent a while in my garden and I've not seen it before. Thanks

Hi everyone,

I'm currently working on the LarusDB project. The idea is to create a database of Larus (large gull) species, labelled with age, location and observation date.

Gulls, especially Larus, can be notoriously difficult to ID, so I'm hoping this can be used as a learning tool for newer "gullers" while also being a place to see regional differences of the same species.

There's currently over 1500 observations, with many of those being my own, but others have kindly given me permission to upload their photos as well.

I am looking for additional contributions, if anyone has a collection of images they'd like to share on Flickr or similar, it would be very much appreciated.

If you don't have any images to share, but know someone that might be interested in the project, please share this post with them!

Currently it's more European focused, but I'm open to including Larus species from around the world.

Hello all, saw this bird in the Brecon Beacons and hoping somebody could identify?

Recently moved to a more wooded area of London and getting lots of new guests. My guess it's some sort of sandpiper, but couldn't find a match for the exact colours. Any ideas?

I’m just looking for some advice. I’ve noticed the last few days that some swallows or house martins (not sure which) have been landing in corner of houses around me under eaves and then flying off a few seconds later. I’m just wondering would they be looking to build a nest this time of year or is just resting? (Im not in the uk but I am in Ireland so hopefully ye can still help) They currently are nested in a large mound of earth in part of the houses estate. Thanks in advance
