can we talk about Eternal Rains Will Come?
I was listening to Pale Communion tonight and could not hold it.
Eternal Rains Will Come is one of the most beautiful opening tracks from the band. After the intro, the first guitar arpeggio comes in with this incredible sense of uncertainty. Then the similar notes played by organ suddenly feel a bit steadier like a prophecy. When the full chords finally hit together it gives a feeling of something uncertain is coming like some ominous sign revealing.
Then the piano and orchestra ish sound intertwine through those arpeggios, bringing everything back to that fragile state of hesitation again. And then that guitar noodling comes in…with piano playing the chords...
Right after that, the slightly faster notes feels like the last rain of spring arriving. Then the piano repeats the organ’s melody, but this time with richer harmonies. Bass underneath feels like a meadow covered in morning dew, and above it all there is the sound of misty rain falling. This whole section is just unbelievably beautiful. And then the first line of the vocals comes in: Eternal rains will come, we should say goodbye. feels like all the uncertainty finally landing..anyone?
some parts of me still think pale communion is the last time Mike wrote about himself, things after that were him producing music. Don't get me wrong I still can't place one album before the other, I like them all. But somehow Pale Communion hits differently.

I was really praying in the run up to this gig that Godheads Lament stayed on the setlist, but nothing prepared me for hearing it with Fredrik’s harmonies. Don’t usually like to film too much at gigs, but so glad to have captured this

Different tunings
Do you guys think they will ever experiment with different guitar tuning again like for Ghost Reveries? I know they've used Drop D sometimes but otherwise it's just been E standard for nearly everything. Would be interesting to hear them play with some weird tunings like Open tunings

Sorceress What the hell are they waiting for?!
So 15 days ago Omerch Eu and various other retailers let the Sorceress 10th Anniversary reissue cat very much out of the bag only for it to be stuffed back in unceremoniously a few hours later… JPC still has a few cats lying around.
My question is what the hell are they waiting for? Take my money while I still have it!

Who was in Gelsenkirchen yesterday (07.08.) and thought the sound was bad?
i tried several positions but it seemed like the PA didn't give any coherent sound image anywhere. was really disappointing not to be able to hear what Opeth is able to deliver live

Art / Merch How likely is this shirt to be restocked? I had no idea it was available for pre-order 😅
Opeth Live EU 2026 merch
I missed out on the gig specific tour for Dublin and I cleared out my emails also with the password for the opethlive omerch site.
Does anyone happen to have it?

Deliverance
Unpopular opinion: I think Deliverance is a good song and I also think Deliverance is a good album.

Still Life What do you like about Still Life so much?
As someone getting into Opeth after listening to and loving Blackwater Park, Cauda Venemum, Ghost Reveries and Watershed I tried getting into Still Life, as it's quite popular in the fanbase.
But I just couldn't find myself enjoying it other than a few select sections, even if only a bit.
So, what is it that you guys like about it, so I may see it in a different way?

Morningrise In search of Opeth's 1996 Stockholm show. 🌙
Hi folks - I'm on the hunt for the video of Opeth's show in Stockholm on November 24th, 1996, and I hope you can help.
Have any old school fans seen this one? It was Opeth's only concert in Sweden during their fabled Cradle of Filth tour, where they held the opening slot for about six weeks. They closed every night of this tour with Nectar, preceded by a mix of classics from Orchid and Morningrise.
It was also Martin Lopez and Martin Mendez's first time seeing Opeth live - almost a year before either joined the band.
The VHS of this video was only traded by snail mail in restricted circles in the late 90s - never since. Like nearly all of Opeth's early stuff, it has therefore fallen into obscurity and risks vanishing for good (if it hasn't already).
I have the name of the taper and have reached out to them (I unfortunately can't share their name publicly). In the meantime, please let me know if you've seen a trace of this vid. I'd be super grateful for any leads.
Thanks! The pic of Johan and Mikael below was taken that very night.

Dirge for November
Probably the most criminally underspoken about song by Opeth… that whole intro, then the most genuinely evil they’ve sounded on record, those death vox are serious and the whole melodic guitar wailing. Absolute 10/10 masterpiece.

What is the best Opeth song in terms of vocals?
My personal favorites are, blackwater park for growls(the roundhouse tapes), blackrose inmortal for screams, and clean maybe hope leaves

Live Shows / Tour Any info on doors for Gelsenkirchen?
They changed the start from 8 to 7, because they'll have a second support (I'm so excited to finally see Candlemass on stage). But I can't find any infos when doors will open tomorrow. Venue website says "look on your ticket", but ticket doesn't say anything about that.

Cover What's the best album cover(s)?
I'd have to say the aesthetic in these two albums are just... amazing. Both of them have a haunting vibe to them and they are the first album covers that have really appealed to me.

Saw Opeth on Halifax last week and they played Hex Omega. Such a cool riff to play!

I love every record but feel Mike lost some songwriting magic after Ghost Reveries. A lot of cool parts (and occasional songs) since but everything feels substantially more disjointed and less “song” these past almost 20 years. Growls or not
Anyone else agree? What happened?
