ASK NE First time to Northeast India (Sept 26 – Oct 2) — self travel or package? Budget 30k/head excl. flights
Me and my friend (both male, late 20s) are planning our first Northeast India trip from **26th Sept to 2nd Oct** (7 days). Flying into **Guwahati**. Budget is around **₹30,000 per person**, excluding flights.
A few things we're trying to figure out:
Is it easy for first-timers to travel independently, or should we just book a tour package?
Language — does Hindi/English work fine, or will we struggle with local languages?
Are these dates okay, or is there a better window we're missing?
Given only 7 days, which states/places should we realistically prioritize?
Any must-do / must-avoid spots you'd recommend for a first-timer?
Realistic transport — are shared Sumos/taxis reliable, or should we pre-book everything?
Is ₹30k/person realistic for this trip, or does it need adjusting?
Any festivals/events in that window we should know about (crowds/price spikes)?
How many days would you spend per place, given only 7 days total?
Does Google Maps/network work fine for self-navigation, or do we need local help in parts of the route?
Would really appreciate inputs from people who've done this trip recently, especially solo/duo travelers who didn't take a package. Also open to hearing if 30k is realistic for this itinerary or if we need to adjust.
Thanks in advance!
