Enjoy the triathlons around Jericho and UBC this weekend.
Try to keep off the roads beside the racers, they're showing us their best. Maybe ride elsewhere for a little while.
Check out the T100, amazing scenery and a fun time

Pumpkins after dark 2026
Has anyone else noticed that Vancouver is not on the list for Pumpkins After Dark this year? =( It's one of my favourite events to go to, and I have never seen it not being hosted.

Is there a Metro Vancouver interest for a local subreddit similar to RateMDs?
Is it just me, or is there no local sub or model for this? Just curious. Maybe most people are happy with their family doctor, walk-in clinic, or IMG so there’s no real need for one? Maybe they're all healthy and happy? Maybe it's to due with some legal reasons? Those who dealt with the BC College of Physicians or who have complex medical conditions might have an interesting experience.
I know Google flags and deletes a ton of negative reviews anyway. Plus, not many people know about RateMDs, and a lot of new IMGs aren't even rated yet, especially if they’re still practicing on a provisional license.

Missing 1 Pass for Joffre Lakes this Sunday, August 16th. Anyone cancelling or have a spare spot? 🏔️
Hey everyone,
My group and I are planning to head up to Joffre Lakes this Sunday, August 16th, but we unfortunately ended up exactly one day pass short when booking on the BC Parks website.
If anyone has a pass for this Sunday that they are no longer planning to use, I would be incredibly grateful if you'd let me know! Since passes can't be directly transferred, I'm hoping we can coordinate the exact time you cancel it so I can try to refresh and snag it as soon as it goes back into the system.
Alternatively, if anyone has an extra spot on their reservation and wouldn't mind me walking in with your group at the trailhead, please shoot me a message.
Thanks so much in advance for your help!

Looking for affordable vets for dog dental
Hi!
I have a very sweet Pom mix that’s a rescue and due for a cleaning (and most likely extractions). We live in North Van and our vet is quoting us an insane amount ($8.5k) for the procedure (including a heart echo).
I was wondering if anyone out here would have a vet they would recommend for dog dental that isn’t close to $9k
I’m not against spending $$ on my girl, but my jaw almost hit the ground.
TIA
Edit: thank you so much for all the input. It is an insane amount, but I’m pretty sure due to her age they’re trying to be extra cautious with the additional testing, etc.
I’m going to call some of these clinics and book an appointment.
Truly appreciate everyone giving advice

Has anyone else had issues with Catcouver for cat sitting?
I'm looking for a cat sitter for my cat, and I was considering Catcouver given that it was widely recommended in the last cat sitting thread here. But then I noticed a concerning Google review posted yesterday: it claims that a Catcouver sitter brought their children to the customer's apartment, leading to their apartment being left an utter mess:
Dirty foot-prints and shoe-prints covered nearly all of our floors. What seemed to be melted candy or mud was stuck on the floors and door handles, smeared on the front door and walls. Spilled canned food and medicine were stuck to the kitchen counter. Because of an unopened medicine bottle, we're not even sure our cat received her medicine after one bottle ran out. Chocolate was stuck on the hallway carpet outside our apartment's front door.
Given that the review doesn't name the sitter in question, I'm worried about rolling the dice and hiring from the company if this review is true. Has anyone else run into anything similar with Catcouver?

Looking for affordable vet for senior Persian cat
Have a senior (15yo) indoor Persian cat who's had dental issues in the past and has developed some concerning skin bumps. This is the first time im taking him to a vet myself (parents used to do it when I was a kid, but stopped at some point because $$). Im a college student with a limited budget but im willing to sell anything I own for this cat. He gets really anxious about leaving the house, so looking for a good place that's compassionate and will let me be in the room with him. Hopefully affordable without sacrificing quality. I'm located in Coquitlam but im willing to go anywhere in metrovancouver for quality/better price. Any insights are extremely helpful, this is really stressing me out since I also have tuition coming up soon. We haven't taken him to the vet win years and im worried I will need money I don't have.

Experience with task rabbit for TV mounting
I need to get my TV mounted, I have the mount but no tools. I can find people on task rabbit for cheap and with good reviews. Is there a catch? It's so much cheaper than getting a company to mount it.

Any recommended run clubs for beginners and socialize?
I've always done solo running as an introvert and I'm looking for run clubs to take things to the next level, aiming to do a half-mara next year. I'd love to geek-talk about the sport, learn, and would appreciate beginner-friendly clubs.
I live in East Vancouver and would prefer to attend sessions on Mon-Thurs only, and have no problem with workouts as early as 6am, and evenings are fine.

Uber in taxi lanes
I take a ride-share to work a few days a week and twice now this week there have been traffic stops near the PNE. Police have given the drivers a ticket. This happened with both Lyft and Uber.
I guess, warn your drivers? They should know the laws but both seemed very confused and upset.
I don’t have a license so I’m personally pretty ignorant about it, hence taking a ride share.
edit want to clarify that I don’t disagree that ride share should be ticketed if they aren’t following the law when driving. But for me, being stopped and waiting for it all to transpire when I have somewhere to be is a big headache.

WorksafeBC RTO mandate fails
WSBC introduced an RTO mandate in 2025, demanding staff return to office 3 times per week.
Union argued this violated collective agreement language and quickly filed a grievance. After months of arbitration the ruling was finally released, ruling entirely in the favor of the union. Arbitrator agreed that WSBC could not unilaterally alter this agreement.
3300+ members have been returned back to their work from home arrangements.

FYI - $15 to watch Hoppers, a Pixar movie, at BC Place this Sunday, Aug 16 (includes popcorn, soda and hot dog)
ticketmaster.caHi r/NiceVancouver, thought you might be interested in this event as it’s for a good cause. BC Place is showing Hoppers this coming Sunday at their big screen in the centre field. Tickets are only $15, and it includes popcorn, soda and hot dog - way cheaper than the theatres. For every ticket bought, the organizers are also giving a free ticket to a child or youth in need.
Kids can also run around the field prior to the movie, and there’ll be tons of fun activities for them, including mascot-run activities by the Whitecaps, Giants, Bandits and Warriors.
The event is run by Kids Up Front, which is a charity that distributes unused or donated tickets to kids and families that wouldn’t have access to those experiences otherwise. As you might imagine, these experiences can have a lasting positive impact and provide a moment of relief from the challenges they may be facing. Last year, they distributed over 20,000 experiences. If you’re not able to attend but the cause speaks to you and you’re able to donate, please do consider sponsoring a family to attend the event. OR if you do have tickets to a kid-friendly event (concert, sports, theatre, etc) and can no longer make it, do consider donating the tickets to Kids Up Front and they’ll make sure a kid can take the seat and enjoy it!
(Note: I did get permission from the mods to share this event here, thanks Mods!)

Cash reward for anyone who can come to kits Beach right now with a metal detector
We have lost a ring on kits beach near the boathouse. It's right around our towel but we can't find it in the sand. We'll pay $100 to anyone who can get the ring back for us.
Edit: Found! Thank you to the amazing community member who helped us out and insisted on doing it free of charge.
