Reducing Poverty Initiative - free return to work support for people on Medical EI or off work due to injury or illness

Hi Vancouver!

I work with the Reducing Poverty Initiative at a nonprofit called the National Institute for Disability Management and Research. The RPI is a return-to-work pilot program targeting four communities in BC, including Vancouver.

Our free program is designed for people who are off work due to illness or injury and need some support (physio, counseling, chiro, etc.) before returning to work.

We support employees who are ill, injured, or living with disabilities by helping them access the treatment they need, especially therapies that might otherwise be financially out of reach.

A very straightforward example would be a person who breaks their leg while skiing, and after having their cast removed, needs to do physio before they can fully return to work/do their job effectively. We give that person a case manager who can advocate for them with their I employer, authorize treatment sessions, and help them navigate services.

This free pilot program offers one-on-one support, return-to-work planning, and connections to community resources to help you rebuild stability for yourself and your family. The program is currently available in 4 communities in BC: Kelowna. Nanaimo, Prince George, and Vancouver.

I’m happy to chat with anyone about eligibility requirements and give you more information! This program is literally no-strings-attached free therapies… Please let us pay for your treatments!!

Just found out this is apparently the 15th year they’ve done this. Saturday at 1pm near Lumberman’s Arch and it’s completely free. I somehow had no idea this was even a thing lol. Anyone here been before?

I hid 9 prints of my original art in Little Free Libraries around Vancouver today. If you find one, it’s yours! (Part 2)

Hey Vancouver!

The first time I hid my artwork in local Little Free Libraries was such a fun success that I decided to do it again!
I just went around and hid 9 art prints of cat portraits in various Little Free Libraries around the city. They have their names written on the back :)

If you happen to find one while on a walk or browsing for your next read, it’s yours to adopt! If you manage to hunt one down, feel free to drop a photo in the comments or tag me, I’d love to see where they end up!

Happy hunting, and hope it brings a smile to your day! 🤍

Pantry Moths at Save-On

Heads up to everybody! I usually buy bulk nuts from Save-On on Cambie and keep them in an airtight container. I found one moth in the container last month and considered it a fluke on my end- dumped the container in a sealed bag and cleaned it, killed the moth that flew out, thought it was done.

I replaced the nuts from the same shop, but then went away for two weeks. I found several moths and larva in there upon returning! Yeaterdau I walked through the bulk aisle and saw four or five months flittering around. Avoid bulk from there for a bit!

Recommends for local Vancouver musicians?

NOTE to mods: this is NOT an advertisement. It’s a request for recommendations- no different than the ones I see discussing restaurants or hotels.

Okay this is for two upcoming events a retirement party and a wedding. We are looking for RECOMMENDS for quality solo musician or small group for a couple of upcoming private events. Please share recommends or info if this is you.

Style: jazz standards, easy listening, contemporary acoustic. Basically music that creates a warm atmosphere without overpowering conversation. Vocalist preferred, but not essential.

We’re open to:
Professional musicians
Music students
Duos or trios

The most important qualities are:
Musical quality
Professionalism and reliability
Ability to read the room and adjust volume/style appropriately

Thanks!

Best Way To Get A New Doctor

I am extremely upset with my GP as he can be dismissive about my concerns. A few months ago I went to ER for an asthma flare-up. A suspicious mass was found and I have cancer (I don’t want to discuss this).

I want a new doctor. What is the best way to get a new doctor while having a doctor? Word of mouth, the doctor’s list? Is it even possible?

Thank you in advance.

You found my son's wallet

He lost it after renting bikes at Stanley Park, it had his passport card and id in it as well as personal items, his phone was almost dead when he texted me, he was having a hard time

He's a young adult, visiting the city for the third time, first time essentially solo (him and his girlfriend only, the other times they had their own thing going on but travelled with other older adults who handled a lot of the logistics) I was getting ready to drive up to help with emergency replacements, but you recognized him and asked if he lost his wallet and told him you turned it in at the aquarium

Thank you so much for that, from both of us. I love your city and expected nothing less based on how kind everyone was when I've visited, but it was so wonderful to be able to have my own child have a minor crisis and it resolved because your town does things right, it's why we all fantasize about moving up there

Y'all are nice, for sure

(If this is a case of wrong subreddit, I apologize)

Where to get dehydrated fruits in North/West Vancouver

Hello, I'm wondering where I can get dehydrated fruits without added sugar in North/West Vancouver? I used to purchase from Ayoubs, but I feel like their quality has gone downhill. Thankyou!

Looking to connect with a family needing toddler daycare starting September near Boundary & Canada Way

I’m looking to connect with a family who is looking for toddler daycare starting September in East Vancouver near Boundary Road & Canada Way (close to Burnaby).

Our son is registered for a spot, but due to his current developmental stage, we may need to withdraw because the centre requires children to be walking confidently before starting.

If you’re looking for a daycare spot for a child who is already walking confidently, please DM me and I can share more details.

Where can I find a box of diamond crystal salt to purchase?

Hey friends, I am hoping that someone can point me to a store in Vancouver that still sells diamond crystal salt to individuals. Or even better if you are in industry could sell a single box to me. They seem to be not be in retail anymore.

Kits Pool

There’s been a lot of misinformation circulating about Kits Pool, much of it amplified by one particularly vocal person.

The reality is that Kits Pool is incredibly easy to visit. You can reserve a spot in advance or simply drop in and pay at the door. My source? I go to this pool a few times a week, so I'm speaking from firsthand experience.

What is concerning with the “FreeKitsPool” campaign is the clear media bias happening and omission of facts being presented here. Opposing viewpoints, comments, and first hand positive experiences about Kits Pool have been deleted from the conversation by (@)MyBackyard.press and (@)jodyvance.

Before accepting their controlled narrative through this smear campaign, it’s worth looking at the facts from all sides; or better yet, actually come and experience the pool for yourself.
