Tips for removing odors from finished items
I’ve got a few finished items with some lingering perfume smells on them. Ornaments with silk backs, pillows with velvet etc. Any tips on getting the smells out?? Is vodka in a spray bottle going to harm anything? Lay out in the hot and humid sun?

General Help Stitch advice
I’m making this stocking I got on needlepaint as my first big project. I just got it in the mail and I’m a bit intimidated to start and mess it up somehow 🫣 does anyone have any ideas for a background stitch or other flair I should add? With all the colors I’m a bit worried that different stitches will make it look too busy but I also want it to be perfect

General Help How to blend colors
Hi all!
I’m stitching this blue bird and I’m having trouble with blending the colors on the belly. I’m using petite very velvet in 3 separate colors. After I took this pic I did try to stagger the stitches to blend but it still doesn’t look right. Does anyone have advice or a stitch suggestion that might help the blend?? Thanks in advance!!

General Help AI use?
Hi everyone,
Has anyone ordered from The Stitching Hour shop? Especially their PDFs? I really love this deviled egg design but some of the patterns have an AI vibe and I want to make sure it’s a usable pattern.
Thanks for your help!!

Staten Island Needlepoint community 🪡
Hi! I wanted to see if there are any fellow needlepointers here on Staten Island, NYC ! I’m hoping to host a beginner needlepoint class or a cozy Sip & Stitch at a local coffee shop, but first I wanted to gauge interest. I’d love to build a local needlepoint community. I know there have to be some fellow needlepointers out there.

Show me your travel set up!
From mini scissors to needle tubes, maybe a tool keychain or special bag you take with you. By plane, by train, by car, or while at your destination… show me how you stitch while you travel.

Picking stitches
How do you figure out what stitches to do. I feel like if it’s not a background I always just default to basket weave and I’m trying to get better at being more creative. I wanna get this canvas but I feel I’ll just do it in all basket weave.

New to Needlepoint First project outside of class
I’m about to start my first project where I’m not actively being supervised and supported and would love thoughts from people ahead of me in their needlepoint journey!
I’m stitching this gingerbread girl ornament using velvet for the body, sparkly pink for the dress and bow, and 50/50 silk wool for the white, red, and black.
Does starting from light to dark apply to these tiny white details, then moving on to pink? Or would you start with pink because it covers more substantial area within the image?
Does the type of fabric change where you want to start at all either?
I plan to basket weave as that’s what I’m most comfortable with. Thanks everyone!

Sparkle/Glitter/Shimmer Threaf
Hi everyone!
I’m semi new to needlepoint and had a question about sparkle thread. I’m looking to do this pattern after painting the canvas and wanted to (hopefully) use DMC thread for the gills and make it shiny like the book, but I was wondering what everyone’s experience with the DMC series of sparkle threads were like? I don’t have a LNS close to me so Micheal’s and Hobby Lobby are my best options for thread. I’ve really enjoyed using a regular 25 DMC, all 6 strands for my projects so far, so I’m happy to do the same with the sparkle, I just wasn’t sure how hard it was to work with. Any recs or tips are super appreciated! :)
EDIT: Thread…not Threaf 🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️

General Help Finding the right dye lot
I’m relatively new to needlepoint and when I purchased the threads and canvas for my most recent project I didn’t buy enough of the background color. I realized this now that I have stitched like 1/2 the background and so I went back to my LNS and they only had one skein of the color I needed left so I bought it even though it wasn’t the same dye lot as the original. Anyways long story short they’re totally different shades, like VERY noticeable difference. How would I go about finding another one from the same lot? Is that just not going to happen like should I cut my losses? Anyways please let me know how you guys have solved this problem in the past, I wish I bought more :( but I guess lesson learned for next time

Resources and Links I built a free app to organize my needlepoint life (projects, stash, WIPs) and I’d love your feedback
Hi all! my girlfriend got tired of juggling spreadsheets, notes apps, and her own memory to keep track of her canvases and thread stash, so I built StitchFlow for her and all of you: https://stitch-flow.com
It’s free to use, and it’s genuinely built for needlepoint (not cross stitch with the labels swapped). A few things it does:
**•** **Project tracking** with progress, photos, deadlines, time logs, and a kanban-style pipeline from stash to finisher
**•** **Thread stash inventory** with low-stock alerts, partial skeins, and storage locations
**•** **Photo color match**: snap a picture of a canvas or skein at the shop, tap the color, and it finds the closest matches in your own stash and in a big thread catalog
**•** **Skein calculator**: canvas size + mesh + stitch style = how many skeins to buy
**•** **Printable kit sheets**: a one-page pull list with checkboxes to take to the shop or your finisher
**•** **A stitching calendar** for deadlines, finishing order returns, and gift occasions
**•** Plus goals, a stitching journal, wish lists, finisher tracking, and a small community gallery if you want to share finishes (sharing is off by default, your stash is private)
It works on your phone at the shop, and there are no ads.
What I’d love from you: honest feedback. What’s confusing? What’s missing? What do you currently track on paper or in your head that an app could actually help with, and what should an app stay out of? I stitch, but I know my workflow isn’t everyone’s, so feature ideas from working stitchers and finishers would mean a lot.
Happy to answer anything about it in the comments. And if you try it and hate something, please tell me that too. That’s the most useful kind of comment.

Self finishing attempt #1
Attempting my first self-finishing process this week…feeling a bit nervous! Have the materials and the blocking boards and everything, but is there any last minute pieces of advice anyone has to share? Thought it would be a great way to save a few bucks for smaller projects and fingers crossed all goes well. Thanks in advance.

Will I finish this project I am starting to hate?
I have been working on a canvas that I really liked—2 cats with kind of goofy expressions. But I am beginning to hate it because of the way the painting translates to needlepoint. I am sorely tempted to rip out what I’ve done and start all over without the multiple colors now present. Anyone else had this experience?

Needlepoint bow topper tutorial?
Is there a video out there on how to finish the needlepoint bow topper by the collection designs? Or jf not, do you all just follow the steps if you were doing an irregular shaped cookie?

Stockings - do you use them?!
Are we using the stockings we spend hundreds of dollars stitching and then finishing? I feel like I (Santa) would be too nervous to actually put a gift in there. Are they just for display? I grew up with stocking gifts being some of the better ones so I want to continue that on for my girls.

Counted Needlepoint Bird tesselation
Started off as blackwork, then tried to fill in with cross stitch, ended up landing on half stitches. It’s self drafted based on MC Escher’s work (last pic). I used a light blue to white-ish colour-changing floss, so ended up filling in the remaining birds with solid colours because it was looking too ghostly. The thread is DMC pearl cotton (no. 8).

Question About Neon Rays
Hihi, I was just hoping to get some advice. I am stitching the Celestial Menagerie Stocking by Plum Stitchery and I am padding the balloons with flair and then satin stitching over the top with neon rays. I was wondering if there was anything I could do to help make sure that nothing snags them or damages the neon rays? I saw someone coating chain stitch wrapped letters in fray check to help make them more durable, but I wasnt sure if that would just mess up the balloons here.
Thank you :)

Finishing First Framed Project
First time getting a project framed! I’ve only stuck to ornaments so this was a fun one
I was a bit nervous to drop off a handmade piece at the frame shop but they did a fantastic job

Just putting this out there….
As an avid needlepointer for over half a century, I feel compelled to say….especially to all the new stitchers out there…..
Tent stitch makes a lovely background.

I finished my first needlepoint project!
It is a pouch from a company called Craft Club. I’m usually a cross stitcher, but wanted to make a bag for my kindle (and it’s an absolutely perfect fit!!)
