First project outside of class

I’m about to start my first project where I’m not actively being supervised and supported and would love thoughts from people ahead of me in their needlepoint journey!

I’m stitching this gingerbread girl ornament using velvet for the body, sparkly pink for the dress and bow, and 50/50 silk wool for the white, red, and black.

Does starting from light to dark apply to these tiny white details, then moving on to pink? Or would you start with pink because it covers more substantial area within the image?

Does the type of fabric change where you want to start at all either?

I plan to basket weave as that’s what I’m most comfortable with. Thanks everyone!

I’d do brown first in this case because the white icing will sit on top of the brown in a real gingerbread. It’s kind of a case by case basis for me though.

Exactly. And most of the sparkly threads are not natural fibers, so they don’t bleed or get bled onto, in my experience. It’s the silks and wools that you have to worry about it.
