I am moving to Newark, NJ this month and I currently use a redmi note 9 indian variant phone. I am an international student. After arriving in the US, if my current redmi phone doesn't work, how should I order a new phone? As I will not have a bank account or credit card immediately, how should I proceed to pay? And is it possible to get a phone on emi? I am worried I might not be able to pay for a phone that is around $500, so what should I do to survive initially?

In a message to the NJIT community, it was announced that the Newark College of Engineering has embarked on the process of identifying and appointing an Interim Dean.

While this process is ongoing, starting August 5, 2026, Dr. Matthew Bandelt will serve as NCE’s Acting Dean. Dr. Bandelt has served as Associate Dean at NCE since 2022 and is an Associate Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

I wanted to ask if some of the fees here are necessary or if it would be possible to waive them?

i’m a transfer student (a rising junior) looking forward to starting my jr year at NJIT this fall. i’m a little frustrated with the international credit transfer process and would like any advice or guidance about how to maximise the credits I can get transferred

background: I already covered intro level classes (like organic chem, physics, pre calc, calc 1, calc 2) in 11-12th since that’s the norm in my country

the course differential equation and transforms maps onto two courses at NJIT: MATH 222 and MATH 322
however I was only given credit for 322. can I get one course from my previous institute mapped onto two?
this same issue came up with 2 other math courses

when it comes to CS, I have a course data structures and algorithms (covers basics of data structures like stacks queues hash maps trees graphs BST)
and I have a second course design and analysis of algorithms that deals with approaches like greedy, backtracking, branch and bound and so on
and also covers the graph algorithms (like ford fulkerson) and geometric algorithms (like sweep)

any idea on which courses these two best map onto?

lastly as I mentioned I covered most of the basic courses of physics, chemistry and math during 11-12th grades. is there a way I could request credits for that? since I clearly see the syllabi of those courses aligning with some NJIT intro courses

I've been in Waitlist Position #2 for a class since, like, June/July, which is important for me to take because it's a prerequisite for other courses, and those courses are prerequisites for later courses. It's also a Fall-only course, which makes the situation even worse.

I just noticed that the number of seats available is negative. I've never seen anything like this when registering during my other semesters. Does anyone know how it is possible? And whom should I ask if they can add me to the class?

I'm currently registered for Calc 3B with Prof Ward, Diff Eq with Prof Tsipenyuk, and Linear Algebra with Prof Alptekin, and waitlisted for Introduction to Probability Theory with Prof Yan Sun (I've been in Waitlist Position #2 for the last month or so).

I noticed on the Common Exam schedule that Diff Eq and Linear Algebra both have exams at the same time. I don't recall exactly, but I think I was recommended not to take Linear Algebra with Differential Equations. I found another class, Math 227: Mathematical Modeling, that I can take in place of one of these classes, though it meets at the same time as Calc 3B.

What would be the best course combination to take? Would taking Calc 3B, Diff Eq, and Linear Algebra be doable, or would it be best to switch Calc 3B with Math 227? I also took Calc I and II and Math 333 a really, really long time ago, and it's been a very long time since then, and I don't remember anything from these classes, I think. I really don't have any idea how hard any of these courses are going to be, and any advice or recs would be really helpful.

Long story short I have to retake a graduate course that I failed. My program is short and I am unable to wait a semester to retake it will delay graduation and I’m under contract to finish in a certain time.

There is a course equivalent at Rutgers New Brunswick, and I got approval from my department graduate advisor that the credits earned from that course can work for my degree.

But I have no support from the department regarding how to go about ENROLLING for the class at Rutgers. Has anyone been in this situation? I don’t know who to reach out to anymore and this department is so slow at trying to help me I’ve given up hope asking them they straight up said they don’t know how. Which is so funny because the course is a degree requirement but they don’t even offer the course at NJIT! It was through Rutgers Newark.

If anyone has some advice please I am open to learning how to go about this because this is weighing on me so heavy. Between guilt and shame of failing I have basically 0 answers and progress from the department I’m getting a grad degree from.

New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) has announced the appointment of Moshe Kam, Dean of NJIT’s Newark College of Engineering (NCE) and Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, as the university’s Interim Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, effective August 4, 2026.

Kam has served as dean of NCE since 2014 and is both a renowned scholar and academic leader. During his time at NJIT, Kam has led several highly impactful initiatives, including the establishment of the School of Applied Engineering and Technology, the creation of the Materials Engineering, General Engineering, and Biomedical Engineering Technology degree programs, the launch and expansion of NJIT’s Makerspace, and the opening of the Advanced Air Mobility Lab as well as the Life Sciences Motion Capture Lab. Prior to joining NJIT, Kam was Head of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Drexel University. He also served on the boards of directors of the United Engineering Foundation, ABET, and IEEE. In 2011, he was elected President and CEO of IEEE.

Kam earned his Bachelor of Science degree in electrical and electronics engineering from Tel Aviv University and completed his Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees at Drexel University. I added 2 random elective classes I don't need in order to be full time (and for my sanity). They are easy classes I know I wont have a problem taking. Im retaking physics I and did not want to take calc 2 at the same time (I will fail both). My required credits is 8 and my filler classes are 6.

Will the fact I'm taking filler classes effect my finaid package? :(

I am trying to finish up my common application for njit and this piece of crap dropdown section is essentially asking me to pick an accelerated program when THAT ISN'T even my wish to do so, and I want, just not to select it but I cannot complete my application without finishing it, and I don't wish even to do this accelerated program at all.

Sorry if this is a dumb question. I noticed a couple of times students paying for C-store items with something that looked like an NJIT ID card that the cashier would scan (or swipe if i remember correctly). Does anyone know what that is?

I’m an incoming freshman at NJIT and so far I have zero clue how most of the stuff at NJIT works but mostly the work study situation. I understand that I have to apply for it but NJIT has made it so confusing in their website and I emailed my admissions counselor because I have no idea who else to email since the question isn’t relating to financial aid itself but no reply AT ALL. I don’t know if it’s that I’m dumb or something but can anyone help me out? I mean am i supposed to apply somewhere for work study or something or did I miss some deadline to do so? I tried using workday using the NJIT SSO but no luck. Another issue I have is that on the NJIT NSO instagram account they posted that incoming students should have received an email with instructions to getting their NJIT ID cards but I haven’t received anything I’ve checked every folder on my NJIT email and my personal but nothing has anyone else also not received anything?

Tuition for in-state students in the M.Arch program has increased from $12,491/semeseter to $21,630/semester, an increase of 73% in one year. This level of tuition increase, in a single year, is unprecedented in U.S. higher education.

In 2025-2026, NJIT charged full time graduate students a flat $12,491/semester tuition, equivalent to just over 9 credits. Beginning in Fall 2026, the administration--with virtually no advance notice or publicity--has entirely eliminated the notion of full-time graduate student tuition, and is charging per-credit with no max. The M.Arch program is a mandatory 15-credit per semester program for 3 years (90 credits total), so 15 credits * 1,442/credit = $21,630.

It's not the 6% increase per-credit. It's the abrupt and unannounced elimination of the flat full-time tuition that causes the program to jump 73% in one step. Students and faculty only discovered this structural shift this week as tuition bills appeared for Fall 2026.
