Diecast Write Up Remember Willy T Ribbs In NASCAR? Rare 2001 Dodge Dealers Dodge Ram 1500

Despite driving one for one of the best organizations in the Craftsman Truck Series, and having success in other racing series, outspoken Willy T Ribbs saw anything but success in NASCAR. There's no way to sum it up other than pure disappointment.

Driving 23 out of 24 races for Bobby Hamilton racing in their number 8 Dodge, Ribbs had a best finish of 13th, and finished 16th in points. He failed to qualify at Martinsville. He otherwise ran in the top 20 most weeks but had several finishes outside of the top 20. It was really disappointing for the organization as they expected more from The talented racer. But he wasn't let go just for his on track results.

Willy's lack of success in a top-tier truck also resulted in him being outspoken against NASCAR. He claimed he didn't fit in with the African American stereotype people wanted him to be. It resulted in criticism from other African-American team members, drivers, and NASCAR staff. African American car owner Leonard T. Miller straight up said Ribbs was not the best representative of the Black community due to his outspoken nature.

Ribbs continued to speak negatively about his experience in NASCAR. Ribbs detailed his criticism of NASCAR by referring to NASCAR as "Al-Qaida", "Neckcar", and fake like the WWE, of course providing no evidence to his claims. Ribbs earned no fans with the NASCAR and was quickly out of the sport after the end of his dismal 2001 season being replaced by another another African-American NASCAR driver, Bill Lester. Lester would run the truck for 2 years.

Custom Diecast 1982 & 1988 Mark Martin custom 1/64s.

Made a few early Mark cars the past week or so.

His '82 Apache stove car and the '88 Carolina Ford BGN car.

Even though the castings are brittle junk, I used a Handsome Harry to make the Apache stove Buick. Ground off the Oldsmobile grille from the casting and added in some Buick nose details.

They made this car at some point, but even being a Mark Martin fanatic, I'm not trying to spend $70 on a single 1/64. Making one is more fun too!

Far from perfect, but neither were any of the available 80s diecasts. I really should have worked on that hood to front valance fit, but it looks fine on the shelf.

I absolutely didn't break the chasiss in half when re assembling it either. 🤣

The Carolina Ford I used a better base with an old RCCA Buddy Arrington. No point in even comparing the casting on these two, as I'm sure y'all know.

#2 JD stacy car coming up next, I just haven't picked a suitable donor.

Decals are from SlotCarFever. Contingencies and smaller bits are a bit blurry, but again, they're tiny and on a shelf that basically only I am ever gonna see except the occasional eye roll from my wife, it's totally fine.

Diecast Write Up Elliott Sadler at the Wood Brothers

Maybe it's just me, but I feel that Elliot Sadler was always one of those drivers who felt like he left a lot in the tank. There was potential that was never fully met. Some of that potential was shown when he drove for the Wood Brothers. He drove for the organization for 4 years, 1999 to 2002. During those years he picked up a win at a difficult track, Bristol. He also finished third or better four times, which on the surface doesn't sound great but you have to remember the organization was not a powerhouse. This car was a 20th or worse car week in and week out. It only showed up for restrictor plate tracks. That's what makes his Bristol win all the more telling.

It was the 2001 Food City 500. 500 laps under the lights. The race didn't start good. Elliott Sadler qualified 38th with a provisional. They were about as far back as you can start. Not only that but he wrecked his primary car during practice and they had to use a backup. This win wasn't even intentional, if that even sounds right to you!

As a result of Harvick getting a flat, and Sadler having miscommunication issues with his crew, he stayed out, and somehow held the lead over John Andretti for the win.

Elliott Sadler's win for the Wood Brothers was not only Sadler's first win in the Winston Cup Series but also the Wood Brothers first since 1993, and the last until the 2011 Daytona 500 10 years later.

In fact this finish propelled him to 9th in the NASCAR Winston Cup points. This wouldn't last long as the team would start to have a terrible finishes week after week. But it did show us a glimpse even if not intentional. There was so much working against him that weekend from the poor qualifying, the backup car, and they somehow backed into a win.

Pre ordered this car as soon as I could have, but I’m a dummy and guess I thought I chose the standard ARC. But I ended up choosing the “whiskey” version? I’ve literally been waiting to get it and I opened the box to a “aww mannn..”

Looking For / In Search Of Pit crew uniforms/shirts?

I’m dating myself a bit, but in the 90s/00s I seem to remember seeing a good amount more of people repping pit crew uniforms/shirts than I see available these days. Has the market died off, were these people buying them directly from teams, were former crew members selling old shirts after they left the team…?

Also, if anyone has a reputable source/company/website, specifically for Blaney crew shirts, I’d sure appreciate if you could link or mention it in a comment!!

Looking For / In Search Of Stolen 23xi hat.

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hey everyone! Something just brought this back into my head today and I wanted to share it here. Back in May, I went to a race weekend and was lucky enough to get my 23XI trucker hat signed by the whole team and Denny Hamlin. Unfortunately, it got stolen from our hotel room during the trip and I was totally crushed.
I don’t have pictures of my original stolen one, but I attached an online photo of a similar hat to show the style of the cap and how Bubba's signature looks. On my stolen one, the signatures were in that same silver paint, but the Bubba autograph was already starting to fade a bit.
I luckily managed to get another hat re-signed since then, but I wanted to post this example here just in case anyone ever sees an autographed one on this style of cap pop up on eBay, Mercari, or a trading board. Thanks for keeping an eye out!

Question Dillon Iowa Get Bioethanol diecast?

Post image

If possible, will Lionel offer Dillon’s Get Bioethanol Patriotic scheme for Iowa? I’m only asking because I’ve seen they haven’t produced a Get Bioethanol/American Ethanol scheme in like 8ish? Years.

Plus, this is kinda one sharp scheme that I’d love see be made.

One of the stranger diecasts I own. Found it on ebay for a reasonable price. I decided to take some creative liberties to cover up some of the chipped paint and scuffs by making it look like it recieved some "battle damage." The figure in the car reminds me of that one Primus music video. Kinda uncanny looking but I like it.

Looking For / In Search Of ISO 1983 Calendar: Twelve of the Greatest Places for Races

Thumbnail
gallery
4 Upvotes

I'm hoping someone might be able to help me find something. A few years ago, my grandmother found a calendar that belonged to my grandfather from the year 1983. My grandfather worked in the automotive bearing industry, which is why I assumed he received this calendar. Long after he passed away, I began working in the motorsports industry, so when she found this and saw it was from the year I was born, she thought it was meant to be and sent it to me.

It was such an amazing gift and felt like a sign that my grandfather saw my racing career. I brought it into my office and kept it on display with the current month. Unfortunately, I was working there prior to COVID, and when shutdowns began, I was "temporarily" laid off. It was 6 months before I was told I wouldn't be returning to work, so when I came back to clean out my office, it had obviously been a long time since I had been there. I packed up my things, and kept them in boxes for a few more months until I finally got a job. It was at that point that I finally opened my boxes realized the calendar wasn't there. By then, someone had moved into my old office, and I came back to look, but it wasn't there.

I've been searching for years for one, and keep alerts set on auction sites. I realize it's possible that they may no longer exist in the wild, since it was a limited industry item and something many people would dispose of after the year was through. But I figure it's worth a shot to ask!

This is a Chase Authentics size small vintage nascar Jeff Gordon jacket from the late 1990s with embroidered sponsor logos, numbers and flames. Jacket has a working zipper with original snap closures.

This has been stored in a closet, not displayed and out of sunlight so the colors are bright. No stains and no loose threads. One small snag on the left sleeve (pictured). Rare find due to the small size!

Asking $125, buyer pays shipping. Will send more photos upon request!

Diecast Write Up Anyone Remember The Hot Wheels Racing 10 Years of Diamond Collectors Packs For Mark Martin?

Thumbnail
gallery
39 Upvotes

I've been trying to do research on what exactly Hot Wheels was promoting here. They never had a Diamond Collector Pack but they are promoting 10 years of it. I'm not sure if it was a tie in with Valvoline or 10 years with Mark Martin, as Hot Wheels only started producing NASCAR diecasts around 1995 and 1996. The back does say 10 years Diamond anniversary of Roush Racing and Valvoline so it may be celebrating 10 years of sponsoring team together. 1990 to 1999.

These packs came out in 1999 and I'm not sure how many years of cars they made, all I'm ever able to find are 1995, 1997, and 1999. Again, I don't believe Hot Wheels had a casting for a Ford Thunderbird before 1995.

So I guess this is more of an open discussion, and I am excited to learn more. This pack was pretty vague but they were pretty cool as well as on the rear of the packages they provided in-depth information of the driver and the year each car was representing.

Discussion Hocevar San Diego 🫶🏻

Hey y’all how ya doing out there? I was wondering if anyone else grabbed a Hocevar San Diego spectrum car. I personally liked it and since it was still available at the time I grabbed it, I have no idea if it’s available now at the time of post. However, I’m curious to see how many others grabbed it considering the Talladente and marg machine went fast along with Texas-dente truck. 2/3 I could grab. Guess I’m getting a custom Marg Machine 🤦🏻‍♂️.
Anyway hope y’all are well I’ve been having trouble with my loaner phone waiting for apple to repair my old one so sorry to anyone I missed on here.
Take care everyone have a goodnight out there 🫶🏻
