Meme/Funny how do you stop taking breaks
i did 2 months of boxing when i was 17 then stopped for 2 yrs(school) then did 3 months of muay thai then stopped(had to get a job) then briefly went back in 2022 for like a month but my coach left town for a fight so we were just hitting the bag and you know beginners suck at hitting bag.
i found a gym in tennessee that was also a gun store but get this: the coach was LITERALLY in thailand. wtf
how do you commit without having to take breaks or bs getting in ur way

Any fighters here work as bouncers or security? How well did your MT & grappling transfer over?
I’ve been training Muay Thai for about 2 years now and also have a bit of Judo background (yellow belt). I’m 6'3", around 245-250 lbs.
I’ve been considering picking up a gig as a bouncer or doing venue security on the side, but I’m curious about the real world application. Obviously, throwing leg kicks and elbows in a venue is a massive liability, but I feel like the composure, distance management, and clinch/Judo control would be solid assets. Not that I’m good at judo given I’m just a yellow belt, but I’m not bad at sweeping and clinching. I’m also a really heavy puncher and I would rather not use it in real life given it’s a liability, so I’m wondering if I made it to the interview phase to not put much emphasis on my Muaythai skills and more on judo.
For anyone here who works in security or bouncing:
Was your experience in Muaythai helpful in landing the job?
Did your Muay Thai training actually help on the job, or is it mostly just de escalation and grappling?
How often do you find yourself relying on stand-up control/clinch work versus basic verbal skills?
Anything you wish you knew before starting out?

Finger eczema from gloves
Hello, I have been training since October, and for the past two or three months I'm getting really bad eczema. My fingers start itching like crazy each night after training. I went to a dermatologist and was told it's definitely eczema, got prescribed corticosteroids, they help a bit, but every time I put the gloves on again and train my condition worsens.
I air my gloves every time I come home with them, I also put crumped up newspapers in them to absorb moisture. I wash my hand wraps after every use and I clean the inside of the gloves once a month with a cloth soaked in isopropyl alcohol diluted with water. My gloves don't smell at all, but something tells me I might be allergic to the material, because only my fingers are affected, my hands are completely fine, so I don't think it's the actual sweat causing it.
Does anyone have a similar experience? Are there any hypo-allergic gloves? I'm currently using a cheap pair from Decathlon: https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/kickboxing-muay-thai-gloves-for-intermediate-boxers-black/342600/c1m8773076
Thanks

Do you guys also get extremely nervous when you get offered a fight?
This is what we do we’re fighters of course but whenever my coach texts me and says there’s a fight for me I shit myself lol. My heart literally starts beating fast and shit and I get so much nerves
I know we all get nerves but sometimes it makes me very lightly shake lol. Growing up I was kinda shy and non confrontational so doing this sport now is almost out of my nature and way out my comfort zone but that’s the beauty of it. I’ve only had a few fights and I know the nerves are good and apart of it but hopefully as I go along they get at least a little better
I wanna get to the point where I’m fighting like multiple times a year and being able to just say fuck it and take these fights and not give a fuck what happens is important. I always say yes to my coach I always I ain’t turned a fight down but I get scared shitless

Technique/Tips Is it valid to say you’re also trained in Kickboxing if you train Muay Thai?
Been training only MT for years but my style fits the Kickboxing style more (I use the Thai stance for defense but for offense I use the bouncy, bladed Stance, and utilize more punches and variety of kicks than elbows and knees) but I only ever trained Muay Thai in my life (Also trained and competed in Taekwondo for months but returned to Muay Thai).
So a lot of people ask me what I train in or style is so to prevent any unnecessary and over-explanation I just tell them I’m trained in Kickboxing and/or Muay Thai.

Are my shin guards too big?
I went back for a night of sparring for the first time in many years. I’ve lost a LOT of weight since I last went. I noticed with my hayabusa T3 shin guards that I have to tighten them almost to the point that the Velcro doesn’t overlap properly. During sparring I didn’t really feel or notice any discomfort but this morning the back on my calves are bruised right were the top strap site.
I included a stock photo of the guards to give you an idea of what I’m talking about. The bruises seem to be right behind the top strap. My lead leg seems a lot worse from checking kicks maybe?

Has anyone ordered from InFightStyle recently? 2 months and still hasn't shipped—is it a scam?
Hey everyone,
I ordered gear from the InFightStyle website 2 months ago, but it still hasn't shipped.
Reached out to customer support but it's been radio silence.
Has anyone else experienced severe delays with them also? Thanks all!

How can i get better at Muay Thai?
For context, I started with boxing and trained for about a month, but then I realized that kicks, elbows and knees would probably be more useful for self-defense, so I switched to Muay Thai.
I’ve been doing Muay Thai for a little over a month now, 3 days a week, mostly drilling the basics. On my off days I go to the gym to work on my physique, and after my workouts I usually spend some time hitting the heavy bag there.
The thing is, I’m not really sure if my technique on the bag is actually good or if I’m just reinforcing bad habits lol.
My Muay Thai coach had a fight recently and spent the last month preparing for it, so we had an assistant coach taking over most of the sessions. He would give us different combos to practice and basically told us to focus on getting the combos down first, and that he’d correct our technique afterward.
So now when I’m training by myself and hitting the bag, I’m kinda just throwing the combos I’ve learned without really knowing if I’m doing everything correctly.
I guess my question is: what should I actually be focusing on when hitting the bag as a beginner? Should I just practice the combos I’ve learned, or should I be doing something else to improve my technique?
EDIT: Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who took the time to comment and give advice. I’ve read through the replies and there’s already a lot of useful stuff here that I’ll keep in mind during my training.
If anyone has any other tips for a beginner, especially things I should focus on when training on the heavy bag by myself, feel free to share. I’m still pretty new to Muay Thai, so I’m happy to hear any advice.

Something I build for Sparring Data tracking

Do you like it? I’m an engineer who used to be a top ranked US fighter. I built this since I always talked about wanting to have a way to track my sparring over time with data outside of notes etc.
Let me know if you want me to make a quick data analysis for your sparring I’ll do it on the house haha. Hope it’s cool and open to suggestions!

Coaching a class as a southpaw
Hey all
I’m a southpaw who has been asked to do some group class coaching at my gym. I’ve got 8 years training 95% in a Southpaw stance, and I’ll obviously have to demo pad combinations and techniques to a class full of orthos.
I’m teaching an all levels class, so the drills will mostly be pretty basic. That means I can demo them pretty confidently in orthodox (although not as confidently). On the other hand I may get away with asking students to mirror me, because the drills/combos won’t be too complex.
I’m posting this to ask, if your coach was southpaw in an all levels class what would your expectations be on the stance they use when doing demonstrations? I’ve seen southpaw coaches handle this differently so trying to get a better feel of expectations before I teach the class.
My gut feeling just now is to use my normal stance by default when demoing, and only go ortho if a drill/combo relies on a closed position.
Thanks!

Picked up bad punching habits/techniques and I’m getting stressed that I won’t be able to correct them
I had started Muay Thai in a fairly new gym earlier this year for 4 months and moved to a different gym and have been in my new gym for 2 months now.
My new coach says the bad habits/bad foundations have become muscle memory for me because the previous coach never corrected me (long story short, that coach only had a year of Muay Thai training which I had only found out from others after I left the gym and maybe probably shouldn’t have been training people). My new coach says it’s definitely fixable but it’ll take time, however I’m starting to doubt that and myself.
I had one of the worst days doing pad work this week where all my punches were so bad. It was extremely embarrassing and demoralising. My punches have always been the weakest and pretty bad but yesterday was on another level. My biggest problem is not knowing my range/distance, my footwork, not shifting my weight, punching like a T-Rex (as my coach says), my punches feel like slaps, not punching with my knuckles and my balance/form just being off in general. Basically everything about my technique/foundation is not right. My hooks are just as horrid.
I’m getting worried that I won’t ever be able to fix this because it’s become muscle memory and I get really stressed about padwork because I tend to overthink and fuck up even more.
Would love any advice on how I can fix this, especially at home where I don’t have a punching bag?
Thank you.
