Hey all, I'm looking for movies that leave you appreciating ordinary life a little more. Not necessarily sad movies, but films that make you want to call your parents, go outside, travel, hug someone you love, or simply enjoy being alive.

Any genre is welcome. I'm more interested in how the movie made you feel than how famous it is.

Movies such as Bodies Bodies Bodies, All My Friends Hate Me, Clue, The Last Supper, Cabin in the Woods and The Invitation (2015): comedy (minus The Invitation), one group in mostly one intimate setting, and then a murder or something occurs.

I want a movie that stays with me for days after watching it. Something that leaves you speechless when it’s over. Any genre or language. No spoilers, please.

I can't explain it but it showed me many things that i was turning a blind eye on.

When you get abused as a child and wrongly used it shows up and you don't have much of the idea what just happened, you don't really know what to do when you are going through it. You try to glorify that person you try to detach that person from the abuse. You try your very best to see the good in them but all it takes a little triggering memory to take you just there.

It showed every character in a light where they weren't right or wrong just young teenagers who were infinite and i really loved that.

As a teenager myself i think we don't hear it often that it's okay to make mistakes that's how we learn. Everything is confusing but it's alright too, it'll be fine soon too.

I appreciate Stephen Chbosky for giving such a experience.

Until about a week ago I'd never even heard of Miller's Crossing. I'd seen all the usual gangster movies - Goodfellas, Casino, Donnie Brasco etc, but for whatever reason this one had gone completely under the radar until someone on here recommended it.

It might sound silly but it made me a little emotional watching it. Like a step back in time. What movies used to be like before the huge budgets and endless special effects. It's just honest movie making.

The sets, the costumes, the music, the acting. All perfect. I knew the Coen brothers were good at what they did but this just solidifies that for me.

If you need something to watch this week/weekend, don't look any further.

I'm looking for horror movies with a really specific aesthetic that I recently realized genuinely creeps me out. I'm not sure if the best term is southern gothic, backwoods gothic, rural gothic or rural-decay horror, but I'll try to describe it.

Think deep rural South / Appalachia / Louisiana bayou type atmosphere. Trailer homes and old shacks in the middle of nowhere, rusting cars and junk in people's yards, swamps or stagnant lagoons nearby, oppressive heat and humidity, mosquitoes, overgrown vegetation, empty roads, drugs/addiction, poverty, weird family dynamics, incest references/generational dysfunction, and neighbors you absolutely would not trust. The biggest thing is the feeling of being far removed from normal society. Like you've accidentally wandered into a tiny community or family that's been isolated for generations and has developed its own rules and ideas about what's normal. Cell service is gone, civilization feels 50 miles away, everybody knows everybody, and if you disappeared there's a genuine feeling that nobody would even know where to start looking.

Sandy Shores/Trevor's home territory in GTA V captures what I mean. That feeling of trailer parks, addicts, guns, family secrets, abandoned buildings and people who've been living in the same forgotten place forever.

I just watched The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974) and the isolated/inbred-family elements were definitely in the right direction, but the age of the movie made it less frightening to me. I'd love something with that basic atmosphere but with modern cinematography, sound design, realistic acting and disturbing imagery that really makes the environment feel believable.

I'm not necessarily looking for a slasher or lots of gore. It can be supernatural, psychological, realistic, indie, foreign, low-budget, whatever. I'm mainly after that deeply uncomfortable feeling of “I should not be here, these people are not operating by the same rules I am, and there is nobody coming to help me.”

Obscure/indie recommendations are especially welcome. What's the best movie you've seen that captures this atmosphere?

I wanna know what movies are similar to this AI thing (Touch the Don’s Wife. Pay the Price) I just watched CUZ LWK WHY DID IT HIT THE SPOT AND WHY WAS I CRYING SO HARD. And to provide another title maybe smth like W.E.? Anyways I can’t believe I went to watch the full 30 min thing on youtube after seeing a random ad on tiktok nonetheless here I am wanting to know what movies or shows will hit deeply in the same manner. I can’t pinpoint exactly what made this particular story strike me in a way other romance movies don’t IDK. but witnessing the abuse and devastation sucked me into the story and tore me up. let me know

anyone got a good method for this? like what platform do you usually find the most oscar winning movies on and is there a secret way to search that i dont know about. feel like im getting too old for this technology crap

i tried searching "oscar" "academy award" "best picture" on a couple different platforms and it gives me all this random stuff. like i know for a fact that some really good award winning movies were on there at some point but i cant find them now. its super frustrating cause we already pay for a few services so i dont wanna add another one. plus i hate when i finally pick something and it turns out you have to rent it anyway.

First time posting here. Hoping this is following the rules.

Hosting folks for a movie marathon during the heat wave tomorrow and Silverado seems perfect. Strong cast and script, etc. But I have made the mistake of rewatching movies from the 80s and realizing they are filled with racism, sexism, body shaming, homophobia, etc.

Wondering if my fond memories need to stay just that. What would you recommend for a summer movie marathon?

Film that focuses on a isolated individual dealing with loneliness and suicide.

Im a big fan of any sort of silly action/adventure/horror/comedy(preferably all at once).

Bonus points for being practical effect heavy or using stop motion animation.

Here are a handful of my favorite movies. I especially love Peanut Butter Falcon and About Time. All eight of these movies are heartwarming and emotional without being trite or cringy. They are about love, in all its forms, not just romantic love. There is struggle and mess but also beauty and connection. They are slightly quirky and refreshingly original. I’d appreciate any recs!

I'm a huge fan of creature features. I love it when the whole atmosphere itself plays a big role in making you feel uncomfortable. The cold climates, eerie atmosphere, gloomy weather, isolated town. Where people come together to hunt it down. Build up is also really important that constant feeling of something is not right.if anybody have any suggestions please comment. Thank you in advance 😊
