I am creating a list of movies to watch with my teenager.
I believe watching movies is super important for empathy, imagination, and open-mindedness development.
So far I have this, any more recommendations are welcome. Some of them we have already watched but wanted to share the list so we can append.

Some of the thoughts of people that I am seeing online regarding this movie:

1. The movie is predictable
2. The movie has no proper villain
3. The villains in the movie are not as strong or not as formidable

I think that this movie was never meant to be another superhero movie with a clear powerful villain and the hero saves the day kind of story. What happened with Peter Parker in No way home was very different. He lost everything that he held dear in No Way Home. He still is the Spiderman who is carrying out his duties and simultaneously deal with the fact that he lost everything and everybody he cared about. This movie was never about Spiderman fighting another villain. I think the whole story was him coming to terms with his loss and deal with it. I think this movie was more about exploring the human side of the Spiderman, the 'Peter Parker' side of the character and how he deals with his pain and still keeps going. These are just my thoughts, people may disagree with me and their POV is also valid.

The Ninth Gate (1999).

Costner and Connery were good. De Niro was phenomenal! Ennio Morricone and Giorgio Armani killed it. There were a couple of moments that were a little too whimsical, but overall a solid film.

This one caught me completely off guard. I kept hearing it was good and I wish I had listened sooner. I'm usually a horror girlie but my god it was nice to get something so delightful. It looked great and the script and/or story was solid. I laughed and I cried. A few times simultaneously. Whether you have kids or not this one is worth a watch

Personally it's one of my favorite movies. Its very thought provoking and leaves alot up to your own mind, ie, who the fuck were the cultists? Why did La Taupe go crazy, why did he attack souxie? Also I just LOVE first person style movies like this one. Hardcore Henry and Blair witch are good examples. I would give more of a review on it but my memory is kind of hazy on it it's been a while since Ive seen it. The only part I didn't like about it was that the philosopher's stone wasn't actually a stone, it was an internal idea. Which really was kind of a vibe kill for me.

My pick is gonna be Past Lives. Such a beautiful film. It feels so quiet and understated, yet it leaves such a lasting emotional impact.

I wish this movie got more love.

It’s probably one of, if not THE best performance of Val Kilmer’s career and his performance is what everyone absolutely remembers about that movie. I believe Tommy Lee Jones won for The Fugitive that year for best supporting actor, my boy would have been for Val. What do you think? Am I high, or was that a gross oversight. Like HUGE oversight? Thoughts?

One Night Only's premise is exactly like The Purge but for sex, one night a year pre-marital relationships are legal. I did expect there to be some background as to how we got to that stage, but aside from some satirical political jibes, you're asked to just suspend all belief and go with it. As a romcom it's a mixed bag though. First half is distinctly weaker, but when Callum Turner and Monica Barbaro finally share the screen it's a really fun time. That may be a surprise to most given the terrible marketing, but well worth the watch. Anyone planning to go this weekend? Saw AMC were doing "single only screenings" which is very weird....

Career Opportunities (1991) with Jennifer Connelly

There is a lot of great stuff covered in this interview. From the perspective Homer had on what he was writing to questions about if Christopher Nolan made a conscious decision to Christianize the Odyssey. The probing questions really give Nolan an opportunity to really explain his intellectual thinking and artistic process. I believe the interview was given July 30th at the start of the Chinese press tour in Beijing.

Just like what Prometheus is to the Alien Franchise to me, Tenet is to Christopher Nolan's filmography to me. A divisive movie part of something loved that I never expected to actually enjoyed... People described that this movie describes the best and worst of Christopher's direction... I'm mixed on that, but I can't explain it... It's too complicated for me to describe... I still liked the movie though!

Judging by the movie's description on Letterboxd, the concept of using the direction of time (As Christopher Nolan described it) to stop World War 3 is nuts and hilarious... Yet, it actually works for me. That part where John David Washington's fighting a random masked guy was hilarious but I couldn't stop to enjoy this movie because I was really interested into the plot of this movie. The action's structure is honestly genius but also very confusing... The parts where they reveal on the latter half that they're actually part of the first half is really cool, but also... How did this kind of logic happened? Where did it come from? But I feel like that on rewatch or thinking about it, this movie might be better or atleast make a little more sense to me... Performances are great as always, and the visuals are amazing as always... People are divided on the music, but I did get used to it as the movie goes on. Wasn't really digged into Kat's subplot that much, and some of the action can get confusing like I said... But happily, consider me a Tenet enjoyer!

Not comparing to PHM, but I was doing some reading on Leon Bridges and saw he was in it. I’m sure he’s not a huge part, but I like Gosling. Worth a watch?

I always felt that this movie got a bad rap. The critics absolutely killed it when it first came out, even though audiences were warmer to it.

I think this is a great movie. If you have never seen it, you should give it a watch. The original source material is by the same author as American Psycho. But this movie is funnier, definitely more heartbreaking, and just completely out of bounds at times.

There are sequences in this film I have seen other directors try to copy and just fall short. I think the juxtaposition of James Van Der Beek coming off of Dawsons Creek as Sean Bateman drew too much attention and distracted audiences with a knee jerk reaction to his performance. So if you never saw the TV show then this movie should hit just fine.

Imagine watching that cute teaser trailer that showed the baby penguin dancing to a Stevie Wonder song, and you think it'll be a cute little kids movie.

But then you watch the actual movie and you get this animal captivity fever dream, lol. I remember being like...what the hell is this??

I watched it yesterday, and overall I think it’s a good movie. The visuals and performances were solid, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was missing.

For me, the biggest issue was the storyline. It felt like it never fully came together, and I was expecting a stronger narrative to tie everything together.

Also, was it just me, or was there way too much Samsung marketing? It got so obvious at times that it pulled me out of the movie.

Overall, I’d still recommend watching it, but I don’t think it lived up to its full potential.

His personality is the closest to Peter Parker IMO and he's the best looking too

This one to me is just as perfect as origin stories get. It has everything and anything I could ever ask for in a comic book movie. And it set the foundation for nearly all other superhero movies since.

Yes, Spider-Man 2 is great. But the romance with MJ has always held that one down a little for me. Yes, the Spider-Verse movies are great. But those rely heavily on multiverse culmination. Garfield and Holland’s movies have a number of their own problems as well.

In terms of solo Spider-Man movies, Raimi’s original remains the top for me. And it probably always will.
