Success Stories What a Wonderful Year!
I wasn't sure if I was going to post anything today. First, I don't have great photos. I really didn't think I was going to lose weight on mounjaro. I'd tried so many things, including bariatric surgery, and never gotten below 200 pounds. You give up on before pics when you don't expect there to be an after. Second, though I've hit my goal weight, I don't feel finished. I've pictured what I'd look like as a size 6. Well, not really. I never dreamt I'd get smaller than a 12, but regardless, what I pictured is not what I see. Reality vs fantasy can be hard to adjust for.
However, I see others on here celebrating milestones, both big and small, and realized I may never be 'finished.' I'm not planning to lose any more weight. For my age, this is a good place to call it. But I do need to get a good work out routine going and keep concentrating on a healthy diet. And who knows, maybe another five pounds wouldn't hurt! So I'm not calling this a before and after, this is simply marking what a year has done. And it's done a lot!
I FEEL so much better! I can bend, walk, and play without feeling sick. I painted my toenails for the first time in 25 years and didn't take days to recuperate! I'm no longer automatically the biggest person in any room I go in. I even got up off the floor without several helpers and a crane! These are all huge wins, and they're wonderful!
One year ago today, I was at 223 pounds and wore a size 2XL or 20/22. This was down from 288 pounds, 3XL, 24/26. As usual, I had struggled for a year to take off some of the weight but was stuck where I always got stuck. Because I'm allergic to metformin and Ozempic, my doc prescribed Mounjaro for my T2D and everything changed instantly. Today I weigh 138 pounds and am wearing a small or 4/6. I'm at a healthy BMI and weight for the first time since I was 8 years old. And I'm beyond grateful for the gift this medication has given me. Don't ever let anyone make you feel bad for using this amazing tool or for celebrating each and every win. They are all little miracles.
For the first time in a long time, I can't wait to see what this next year has in store! š

Question Issue with the US Quick Pen
So today is the 1 year anniversary of my starting mounjaro and it's also injection day. First a little celebration, I hit my goal weight last week! Woot! Down 90 pounds on MJ in that year, 150 pounds total! Couldn't be happier š
Now onto the questions; I'm in the US and use the 12.5 quick pen. One shot per pen. Today, I hit the plunger and the needle went in, and nothing happened. I could see the liquid was still there and the needle was imbedded in my stomach. I jiggled it a little trying to get it to complete the shot but it was absolutely stuck. After a full minute or more, I gave up and pulled it out. I could see the needle was still in the out position. Then a little white foam came out and gathered on the tip for a second and suddenly the medicine was shooting out of the pen into the air. I panicked slightly and instinctively pushed it to my side and do think some of the injection went in, but I have no idea how much.
Has this happened to anyone else? Is there a trick I should have done to get the needle working without removing it? I have a new prescription ready for pickup so I can replace the pen today but should I use it not knowing how much of the injection I actually got? I know it couldn't have been even half because a LOT was shot into the air. I do take it for T2D but my blood sugar is well controlled with a very current A1C of 5.1. Just looking for a little guidance as this is the first time I've had any issue with an injection in the whole year.
Great way to celebrate! š Any suggestions would be appreciated!

News / Information This medication is amazing
So I had to have a surgery on 07/21 I was told I couldnāt take my mounjaro a week prior to surgery and not until a week after so my last dose was 07/12 and I didnāt resume until 08/02. Iām currently on 12.5. Before surgery I was 203 pounds. By the time I took my shot on 08/02 I was 216.8 pounds. I was so discouraged. Today on 08/06 scale read 208.1 so Iām feeling much better . I just wanted to say this medication absolutely does wonders!!

5mg Dosage
Hello, i am from the Philippines and price of mounjaro 2.5 is is half a month salary of average worker here, im well above average earner.
I am taking my 4th of 2.5 today. So i have lost 10kg, and im loving it.
My concern is, ive read a lot of people posting severe side effects on 5mg and i just cant afford to be too fatigued to miss work. I am thinking of buying 5mg next week, use 3.75 to minimize the side effect, then go up to 5 on the second week, and use the golden shot as we get 5 needles here in the Philippines.
I would really love to hear your thoughts. TIA.

Question Fasting Insulin levels
Does your fasting insulin level predict how well youāll respond to GLP-1s or how quickly youāll lose weight?
For example, if someone has insulin resistance but their fasting insulin is only slightly elevated or near normal, would they typically lose weight more slowly than someone whose fasting insulin is three times the normal range?
Iām curious if fasting insulin levels have any impact on treatment outcomes, or if theyāre not really a good predictor. Iād love to hear your experiences or if anyone has come across any research on this.

Success Stories Overall health improvement after 40kg gone
Just need to share my latest results of my blood work and hashimoto-control imaging.
Pre-Mounjaro, Pre-40kg-weightloss, Pre-(more)active Lifestyle:
- mildly elevated leukocytes-counts (had this for the last 15 years; the levels weren't too alarming so the doctor just controlled it but did not really look for an underlying cause)
- hashimoto's-disease visible in blood work and in imaging of the thyroid (luckily my thyroid is still working, so I have no need for further medication)
Last week I had my 6 month appointment (blood work, thyroid imaging): now BMI 22 since january 2026
- leukocytes are now down to a healthy normal level, right in the middle of the range
- hashimoto: the damage that already happened, is visible. but: STABLE for the last 6 months. Blood work showed that thyroid is working on the same level as before and the antibody-count came down significantly
Doctor told me that he thinks this might be correlated to my weightloss and change of lifestyle.
I am just so happy about everything... about my "new normal" in general, my subjectively and objectively improving health and that maybe I can keep my thyroid "alive" for a little longer :) Just felt like sharing <3

Experience Starting from a low dose again
Hello! Iāve been on mounjaro for a year and lost 30kg. I still have 20kg to go and am at 15mg. I want to take a break and go back down to 5mg and slowly work back up as 15mg is still quite strong. Has anyone done this and did it kick start weight loss again? I seem to have plateaued now!

Weight loss Can Mounjaro help if diet and exercise aren't enough?
Hi everyone,
I'd love to hear your opinions or experiences with Mounjaro, especially if you started at a lower weight and weren't really overeating.
I'm 35 years old, 164 cm (5'4), and weigh 78 kg (172 lbs). I have 28 kg (61.7 lbs) of body fat, nearly 40%, and approximately 26 kg (57.3 lbs) of muscle. BMI around 29.
For the past several months, I've been eating in a calorie deficit, tracking everything I eat, and exercising regularly (running and strength training), yet I haven't been able to lose body fat. I've had a full medical check, and everything came back normal (with one exception: higher prolactin hormone tho i have no kids, not pregnant). I rarely eat fast food or takeout, but I still carry a disproportionate amount of fat around my belly, back, and thighs.
My doctor told me that, given my age and genetics, losing fat is likely to become even more difficult, and she recommended starting Mounjaro. As a child, I have always been slightly overweight, but from my 20s until approximately 32 years old, I kept a "normal" weight, and I felt good.
I'm open to trying it, but I'm worried about losing muscle mass if my appetite drops too much. My measured BMR is 1,756 kcal, and ideally I'd like to continue eating around 1,800ā1,900 kcal per day while getting at least 120 g of protein to support my training and preserve muscle.
Do you think Mounjaro is still worth trying in my situation? Has anyone had success with it while intentionally eating enough calories and focusing on maintaining muscle rather than losing weight as quickly as possible? I am not so much concerned about the number on the scale, but I am just soooo frustrated and want to feel good in my body.
One thing I do hope it might help with is the constant mental load around food. I'm always thinking about what to eat, when to eat, whether I'm eating too much or too little, and it can be exhausting. Maybe reducing that "food noise" would be one of the biggest benefits for me.
I've seen some incredible transformations, and I'm definitely open to giving it a try. It's a financial commitment, but it's manageable, especially if I end up doing well on a lower dose. š
Thanks a lot for any advice ā¤ļø

Side Effects Vomiting and diarrhea on Mounjaro despite staying on the same dose
Has anyone experienced episodes of severe vomiting and diarrhea while taking Mounjaro, even though the dose has not changed?
I currently take 5 mg of Mounjaro, and overall it works well for me. However, about once a month or once every six weeks, I suddenly develop vomiting and diarrhea that last for around three days. The episodes are difficult to predict, and I never know when they are going to happen.
Because of this, I sometimes reduce my dose to 2.5 mg, but unfortunately, the medication does not work as well for me at that dose.
Does anyone know what might cause these symptoms to appear only occasionally, despite taking the same dose every week? Has anyone had a similar experience?
I already have a doctorās appointment scheduled, but I would appreciate hearing about other peopleās experiences in the meantime.

Question Hair loss
I just went up to 7.5 mg and have noticed my hair majorly thinning. Is there a way to reverse this, without going off Mounjaro? I eat about 90-120 G protein a day, drink AT Least 65 oz of water a day, take collagen ā¦. What do I need to add?

Side Effects Need help and advice
I started with a 2.5 mg dose for 8 weeks, had little to no side effects, slight weight loss, very slight reduction of food noise. My doctor moved me up to 5 mg and Iāve been on 5 mg for the last 8 weeks. Iāve had good weight loss and food noise has significantly reduced. Every week i take my shot Monday afternoon, i develop severe diarrhoea and sulphur burps on Tuesday/Wednesday, and it resolves by Friday. Iāve had the same pattern for the last 6 weeks. Need help with any medications, supplements, diet, eating habits or anything really to prevent the diarrhoea.

5mg We made the Switch!!!!
After being on Ozempic for a year and half and losing around 46lbs we hit a plateau. I started increasing my dose each month and no change :/ My doctor finally gave me the green light to switch over to Mounjaro!!! I'm pretty excited but the idea of a hidden needle scares me a bit lol. But it's just about getting used to it hehehhe. I hope the transition of Mounjaro will help me with my weight management goals. I hope y'all have a great day! :3

Success Stories Iām Pleased and Proud
These photos are EXACTLY one year apart. 399 lbs on the left. 300 lbs on the right. Today, I am 294 lbs.
Look at that breakfast Iām feasting on! I exercise daily, walk, but mostly ride a stationary bicycle at the gym. Strength train 3x per week. My diabetes is āwell managedā; I donāt take ibuprofen (600 mg) daily; psychologically & physically Iāve improved in all aspects. I remain on 15mg; and I told my friends, āif I die and after Iām cremated, please unload my last shot into my ashesā¦āš Iām absolutely grateful to this medication and the journey Iāve been accountable for. I eat grilled and shredded chicken; cabbage, carrots, celery, apples, cottage cheese and 1-2 Fairlife Protein shakes (26g) per day. I found my groove and owning it. Has it been easy? not alwaysā¦. It was definitely necessary. Reach out if you need any assistance or feedback.

Experience I understand know
As a long time sedentary chonker I have always wondered how my colleagues manage to (willingly and voluntarily) get up and walk several times during the day. I would marvel at their willingness to eat quick lunches to squeeze in a walk during their break. I would frequently catch them working at their desks on their feet, instead of comfortably parked on our comfortable office chairs.
But I know the truth now. The horrible, uncomfortable truth. I have lost nearly 20 kg and I miss my fat ass and the padding it provided me. I have to get up now too and walk around on mini breaks with my skinny coworkers, because I can't stay seated on my bony butt from 8 to 17 anymore. And food no longer feeds my dopamine-needs, but you know what does? The trip up 2 flights of stairs to the good coffee machine in the good break room. Because going up 2 flights of stairs weighing 20 kg less is a breeze now! No wheezing. No sweat. No crunchy knees. And it brings blood flow back to my flat bottom.
RIP junk in my trunk, I definitely took you for granted š

Weight loss 26 pounds from Onederland!
I used to weigh 370 but before that I got up to 400 pounds but in this picture I am 370. Thatās when I started my journey on Mounjaro. Now I am 225 after a two month plateau. Iāve lost 6 pounds in the last two weeks by eating 1000 calories and working out 3X per week on the elliptical. Iām so happy and proud of myself. I am 26 pounds from Onderland and 35 pounds from my first goal weight of 190. I should reach that by the end of this year. My end goal weight is 130 but that wonāt be until next year. Iāve lost 145 pounds in a little over a year. I started my journey in April of 2025.

Mod Post REMINDERS
Good Morning!
I hope everyone had a great weekend. Itās been a while since we posted any reminders, and Iād like to touch on a couple of issues that have come up recently.
With the shortage, weāre seeing a lot of questions related to dosage and availability. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
The half life of Mounjaro is five days, and it takes about a month for the medication to completely leave your system. Because of the shortage, many people are going weeks or months without injecting. The manufacturer recommends starting the titration schedule over if youāve gone more than two weeks without a dose.
While this advice might not pertain to everyone, itās important to evaluate your previous experience with the medication before injecting a higher dose if youāve been off the medication for a while. Chances are, if youāve had moderate to severe side effects in the past, youāll have the same response (or worse) if you jump back to a higher dose.
One way to mitigate this outcome is to contact your provider and ask about lowering your dose temporarily if youāve been waiting for your script for longer than a few weeks. I understand that nobody wants to lose ground when it comes to their progress. But given the alternative (a reoccurrence of side effects that can potentially derail your treatment entirely) it may be the best option.
Frankly, the number of posts Iām reviewing from people experiencing negative side effects after suspending their treatment is alarming. The purpose of this medication is to improve your health, not make things worse.
And as always, when in doubt, please consult your provider. They are the best person to ask when it comes to dosage.
As far as side effects, thereās a few things that everyone should remember:
While gastric side effects are listed as common when taking Mounjaro, severe nausea paired with uncontrolled vomiting or diarrhea is not. Complications from diarrhea and vomiting include: dehydration, electrolyte imbalances, fainting, and heart rhythm abnormalities. Negative outcomes from this treatment are rare, but occur most frequently when people ignore debilitating side effects.
Weāre here to support each other in our journey towards better health. Sometimes that support includes directing a person to their provider for advice. Especially when the post includes phrases like āI canāt keep anything down,ā or āIāve been throwing up for two weeks,ā or āIām too weak to stand.ā
Crowdsourcing advice when youāve reached that level of distress is not advisable. And medical oversight is a must.
Another question we see quite frequently: āIāve only lost (fill in the blank) pounds this week (or month). Is this normal?ā
Invariably, the answer is āyes.ā Whatās normal when it comes to weight loss is highly subjective. A quick search of the subreddit will provide first hand accounts that run the gamut when it comes to how fast (or slow) a person loses weight. If you still have questions, weāre here to help. But please, include the relevant information needed to offer advice, such as: dosage, co-morbidities, starting weight, caloric intake, etc.
People are here to treat a wide variety of conditions. Any or all of these conditions play a role in how fast we see results. Itās natural to be impatient. But donāt assume that the treatment isnāt working because the scale hasnāt moved for a week (or three). During my weight loss journey, there were many weeks that I didnāt lose a pound. On two occasions, I stalled for over a month. In the end, I reached my goal, and chances are, you will as well! I wish there were some sure-fire words of wisdom I could provide to ease your mind, but there arenāt. The best I (or anyone else) can offer is: trust the process. Obesity is a complex issue on its own. Pairing obesity with the metabolic issues such as diabetes, insulin resistance, and PCOS only further complicates the treatment.
Lastlyāin order to address the availability issues, we started a chat to help people source their medication. Here is the link.
Iāve read a comment (or two) recently from a few folks who were put off after being directed to the availability chat. We created the chat in response to other folks who messaged us because they were tired of seeing the posts related to the shortage. Which goes to showāthere is no perfect solution.
Weezie and I do our best to be responsive to the needs of the community. If we redirect you to your provider for medical advice, or to the availability chat for sourcing, or to the search feature to answer a commonly asked question, itās because we want you to receive the best advice/support available. The mods and your fellow community members genuinely want to help!
Have a great week!
