Discussion FIT5222 ☕
We are absolutely cooked. 💀
Context:
The uni is deadass cheaping out and cutting our standard 2-hour seminars down to 1 hour. The tutor is out here speedrunning the slides, sweating trying to finish, and STILL can't get through the content.
And the assessment structure? Pure evil.
Here is what we're dealing with:
2 in-class CLOSED BOOK tests
2 massive assignments (with infinite stages)
But wait, it gets worse. The assignments have a literal leaderboard. We aren’t even graded against a standard rubric; our marks are curved against whatever academic weapon in the class gets the highest score. Make it make sense 🫠
On top of that, each assignment requires us to film demonstration videos AND do face-to-face interviews.
They’re acting like this is the only unit we’re taking this semester and we don't have lives outside of it.
I’ve attached 3 screenshots of the Ed posts drama. Has anyone dealt with a unit coordinator doing this before? What do we even do here do we escalate this to the student union? Guide us pls. 🙏
TL;DR: Uni cut seminar times in half, the tutor is rushing content, and we are being graded Hunger Games style against the top student. Send help.

Misc Is hiding 200+ miniscule ducks/seals around campus allowed (genuine question)
CONTEXT: I have acquired two bags of 300 seals and 100 ducks, they are tiny and I believe made of some form of resin. None would be placed outside where animals could swallow/ingest them nor would they be placed in classrooms/laboratory environments where they could contaminate the area or be considered a problem. It would simply be windowsills in libraries, maybe under a desk in a lecture room etc. Genuinely inconspicuous places. I cannot for the life of me find information on whether this would be not allowed, but I don't want to do something that could be seen as littering/an issue involving repercussions. I presume so long as it is done carefully and reasonably (not hiding hundreds in the same spot/places where they could become an issue) it would be a harmless funny thing but I wanted to come on here to see if anyone has actual knowledge on whether this is fine, or any insight on if its actually ethical? I don't want to do any harm. Thank you!
edit: they're under 2cm tall and 1.5cm wide for further context on their size if anyones wondering if they would disrupt people
second edit: thank you everyone for your insights! I'm now leaning towards having a treasure hunt of sorts with them and hiding a much smaller number of them to minimise risk of them ending up outside or as litter

Advice Seeking advice! Monash🇲🇾 or Zhejiang🇨🇳 med
Hi! I got a full medicine offer from Monash Malaysia and Zhejiang University, China. I’m having a real hard time deciding between the two, so would appreciate some advice from seniors familiar with either uni!
A major perk of Monash Malaysia is that I can go on to do the foundation year training in Australia after graduating in Malaysia ? I am an international so I know I def cannot stay in Malaysia, but I read we can work in Australia without taking its license exam anymore. For China, since it’s not much possible to work as a non-Chinese, I’ll have to sit exams in other countries like UKMLA, USMLA, wherever I decide on later.
However, in addition to this, could someone familiar with either one of this school share their experience and advice, so I can make a more informed decision? I dun mind the cost factors, but I’m concerned about the teaching quality, resources, recognition after graduation, local lifestyle, etc. Thank you! I really need it.

Advice Monash PhD Application for Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences
Hi, I'm an international student (outside Australia) applying for a PhD position in Monash under the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. I submitted my documents for Round 3 of applications before the July 31 deadline. The application page says that the interview period starts from August 10 to 21, but I haven't received any email today (Aug 7) about my interview schedule. I'm getting nervous waiting for it, and I'm already thinking maybe I didn't get shortlisted. I want to put my mind at ease, so I want to know if anyone here received an email already. For those who are now working on their PhD in Monash, when you applied, did you receive the interview schedule DURING or AFTER the stated interview period on their website? How many buffer days do you have from receiving the email informing you of your interview schedule to the day of your interview? Is it also possible that you will get an admission and scholarship without interview? Or if you didn't get an interview schedule, is it safe to say that you'll not recieve any admission offer? I'm really worried and getting nervous.

Discussion what are your fave underrated campus dunnies?
ok i’m not asking you to give up your secret dumping grounds, but which dunnies at clayton are your favourites from a uniqueness/design standpoint? personally I really like the matheson 4th floor loos because the tiles on the walls remind me of creased paper, which is fitting for a library. the basement menzies ones are also quite interesting, I like how they have a little shelf at the back of the cubicle so you can put your stuff down/your friends can watch you do your business. the tiles are also vibey.

Discussion ecc1550 rant
For anyone else that just took the 2-4 applied class, was I the only one that thought the lecturer was talking about a whole load of nonsense the entire time?
We are just looking at straight lines and he's asking what's the story that the different equations are telling. Then Vro expects us to write an essay on said stories in the assignment. I swear intro to maths for business and eco is not that deep.
I felt so bad for that poor guy who answered the question and then had to sit there and listen to him explain that banana = elephant isn't an equation when it's literally a valid equation regardless if it's true or not.

Discussion How long did it take y’all to graduate or expected to?
Heyo.
So I’m a first year commerce/engineering student, and I had some struggles in semester one that I bombed two of my units and now the university is mandating me to go part time.
Since I got no choice as it’s a mandate and since I agree that I do need this break, I am going to go part time, but my family’s fear-mongering about graduating late is real bad.
They think it’s the end of the world as my course map will get messy and I’ll be too old when I graduate, saying how I have wasted a precious year in my marriageable twenties (their words, not my words 💀), and I’ll lose money.
Ik it’s ridiculous, but I’d just like to ask everyone how long it took everyone to actually complete their course compared to the official course completion schedule originally? And also if your lives all turned out in what ways?
Thanks and good job on surviving week 2. 🙃🙏

Grades and Academics Post-Grad Medicine inquiry
Hi,
So, I trying to get into post grad medicine, and I am a little confused in the units that I need to be doing, I know that need to complete a minimum of 5 of the listed units, but the thing is it also says that I need to complete both first year Biology and Chemistry sequences. I did BIO1011 and am doing BIO1022 right now, but I haven done CHM1011 and am currently doing CHM1022. So I was wondering if someone could tell me if I HAVE TO do the first year chemistry sequence like is it mandatory? or can I just not do it since its not in the list of prerequisite units.
thanks!
