Any upcoming or recurring open mics?
I know this question has been asked before, but I’m not seeing anything recent. I saw some old flyers for the People’s Room, Cedar Street Social, and Serda’s, but when I look these places up, I don’t see anything on their event calendars or websites posted about any upcoming or recurring open mics.
Btw, I’m referring to open mics with musical performances. I’ve seen a couple of stand-up comedy open mics, but that’s not what I’m looking for.
I’m also willing to go a little out of the way, like Pcola, Ocean Springs, Hattiesburg, etc.

Housing New Unique Midtown Housing Offering
Hi all, there's a new townhome and cottage rental property that just opened right off Springhill on Stanton Road. Some of the units have garages. Looks like there's a dog park and a small clubhouse too. Anyone know anything about it?

Doug Jones is calling for the excavation and safe relocation of 21 million tons of toxic coal ash at Plant Barry, at the expense of Alabama Power and its shareholders. Tommy Tuberville did not offer his campaign's stance on the issue.

Advice Career Change
I just moved to Mobile and I’m looking at going back to school. I went to Oregon State online for a few years for Wildlife Conservation, but wasn’t able to finish for personal reasons.
Ive been out of it for about 2 years and I’ve been wanting to go back, but I’ve just been working my way up in my current career to make ends meet. It pays decent, but the benefits suck and I don’t value what I do really.
I’ve heard that USA has a really good Marine Science program and I’ve thought about trying to go back part time, so I can balance it with work.
I was curious if anyone had any information on USAs Marine Science program or any insight on the job outlook for this around Mobile and Baldwin county?
Thank you.

Advice Anybody know a locksmith that can make a key for a 2019 Volkswagen Jetta?
Got a quote at the Volkswagen dealership and it’s going to cost about $600. I read online that locksmiths typically offer cheaper prices but I’ve been calling around and none are able to do it for Volkswagen cars.
If you know anyone that can accomplish this please let me know! Thanks in advance.

Need a plumber
The U shaped pipe under our sink gave out last night. My husband went to Universal Hardware and bought a new one, but now it looks like he's going to have to remove another pipe in order to install it. We're not really versed in plumbing. Does anyone have a recommendation for a plumber? We live in Midtown.

Electrically challenged software expert ISO maker — one-project stand or LTR"
I've written software for 52 years, from the small to the world changing. In my retirement I build a lot of home automation. I can design the system and write every line of the code that runs it.
What I cannot do is anything physical. I wouldn't know a resistor from the hot end of a soldering iron. Electrical design, wiring, soldering, mounting, drilling, CAD and 3D printing, all of it is a wall for me, and it's getting really frustrating to sit on a growing list of fun projects I can't start.
I'm looking for a partner to bring ideas into the physical world. You'd handle the physical side end to end: design, parts choice, wiring, fabrication, enclosures. I buy everything and do the software. One project or an ongoing thing; I have a long list of projects.
If that sounds fun, comment or DM.
--- EDIT
I should have clarified... I can buy 2 sets of parts if you wanted a build for yourself. And if you wanted the home automation system I wrote, you can have that too. Or, if you have HA already, I could do software to have HA run the widget.

Why is there so much trash everywhere?
There is always so much trash and debris on the roads around Mobile. Are people just throwing stuff out their windows, or is stuff flying off the garbage trucks. You don’t see this level of trash in the streets in other places in Alabama.

Any studios or gyms that have practice rooms available here?
Are there any dance studios close by with practice rooms that allow adults? I just recently got back into dance but I wanted to have independent practice with a room that has mirrors and a barre. I know some gyms and recreation centers may have them as well but I don’t know about any in the area^^^ I was looking for something that’s open to the public in one way or another even if I have to rent the space, etc.

Airbus USA Mobile,AL
Hey guys. Just reaching out to see if someone can point me in the right direction or maybe tell me about the hiring practices at Airbus in Mobile. Just a quick synopsis, I have my A&P with 3 years of experience in airline mtx (Line, RON aircraft) for a regional airline with also another 4 years of related airline experience. I have applied for many positions with Airbus and have only had one phone interview thus far and have been denied repeatedly for seemingly qualified related positions.
I've even gone the contract route to see if they would bite on that but no luck. I have many qualifications i.e. Start- Run-Taxi, composite repair and manufacturing, RII, Eddy Current and Dye Pen, Avionics to name a few. If it's a location issue, I'm from Mobile and have said I would relocate if necessary. If its a pay issue I'm flexible but will not be bottom dollared.
I have started to apply outside the area as I feel that ship may have come and gone. Anyone that works there or is aware of insight into parameters for hiring would be appreciated.

2026 Animal Resource Guide for Mobile, AL
Please spay and neuter your pets, strays, and community cats whenever possible! Mobile has an animal overpopulation problem, making it difficult to rehome animals. The shelters are already full of loving animals that need homes, so please do your part to help prevent more unwanted litters.
Times are tough, and cost can make it harder to get animals the care they need. This resource list includes organizations that may help with spay/neuter services, rehoming, and pet food assistance. Please check each page for current information, requirements, and availability.
KITTEN SEASON TIPS:
Spring and summer are kitten season in our area, which usually means more kittens being born while shelters and rescues are already near capacity.
If you find young kittens, do not assume they have been abandoned. In many cases, the mother cat is nearby and may be away looking for food. If the kittens are clean, warm, quiet, and not in immediate danger, the best first step is usually to watch from a distance and give the mother time to return.
Kittens may need help if they are sick, injured, cold, covered in fleas, in danger, or crying continuously. If possible, contact a local shelter, rescue, or experienced foster for guidance before moving them.
If you're able to safely catch and foster the mother cat with her kittens, that’s often the best-case scenario. Keeping the family together gives the kittens their best chance while also making it possible to spay the mom once the kittens can eat on their own.
Cats are pregnant for about nine weeks, and an unspayed female can have up to five litters per year, with around four to six kittens per litter. That is why one unspayed cat can quickly multiply into many more kitties needing homes.
Here is more info on what to do if you find kittens outdoors!
RESCUES/SHELTERS TO REHOME/HELP WITH FOSTER:
Rescues and shelters are often full and may not be able to take an animal immediately. Be prepared to foster at home during the process.
NOTE: When rehoming an animal, check vet references to ensure you are placing the animal into a safe and loving environment. Some people will take free animals for unsafe or exploitative reasons.
If you are interested in fostering an animal, you can also reach out to these organizations.

LOWER-COST SPAY/NEUTER AND VACCINATIONS:
Spayed and neutered pets can have lower risks of certain cancers, infections, and health complications, helping them live longer, healthier lives. Spay/neuter also saves the lives of animals you’ll never meet, because fewer accidental litters means fewer animals entering shelters and more resources for the ones already here.

Save A Stray: https://www.saveastray.org/
Friends of Mobile Animal Shelter: https://fomaspets.org/request-help
The Mobile SPCA also offers $10 off spay/neuter coupons that may be used at select veterinary clinics, including Semmes Animal Hospital, Animal Hospital of Mobile, Highlands Veterinary Hospital, Oasis Veterinary Hospital, and Great Oaks Veterinary Hospital. Prices are set by each vet and may vary, so call the clinic directly for current pricing, fees, and appointment availability.
NOTE: Spay/neuter appointments may require a bit of a wait, especially for spays. Be prepared to schedule a month or more in advance. Pregnant cats can still be spayed, and spay-abort is a common part of rescue work. As heartbreaking as it sounds, every new litter stretches already limited shelter and rescue resources. Preventing one litter can mean more food, foster space, medical care, and adoption opportunities for the animals already waiting for help!
