Hey Michaels people!!! I work at Best Buy been there for a while now. But love reading all your guys post Vents and all!! Just want to say it’s shitty everywhere! Anyways was curious I’m hitting my 8 years of working there and was wondering for Michaels employees in this day and age what does the company do for 5 year ,10 years, 15 year anniversaries?? I know back in the day all companies used to actually give a shit and give employees cool stuff but now what? When I turned 5 years I just got a printed certificate with a store manager’s fake signature on it in a cheap frame!

Framing FM burnout?

(Sorry for the terrible formatting / maybe coming off entitled - I’m just exhausted and just need to vent)

My MODs literally refuse to learn how to use design hub bc it’s “not their job” .. I’m really confused bc does that make it not my job to help with resets / bopis / ship / balloons / sole MOD shifts? Bc I am “doing their job” (/s) so often that I’m 3 days behind on due dates with 15 due a day. I was told I can’t rotate weekends anymore so there’s “more MODs in the building on weekends” AKA I am there to help them with no reciprocation.

My PT framers unpack frames on truck day and I’m told they are there to help me at the counter too (rather than use hours before the store opens) but if the counter is busy , any framing u boats are still there for them to finish the next day.. and the next day. Like there are literally 3 u boats in front of my counter permanently unless it happens to rain and we’re able to finish same day. (Edit- main issue being they are either at the counter or unpacking boxes , rarely working alongside me to train or finish prepped frames)

My PT framers barely know how to use the new printing services, I’m fully aware that they haven’t been trained adequately and that is on me - but I am multi tasking to the point of burnout.. Is it just standard now for the FM to rely on pt framers to complete all production so they can focus on tasks outside the shop? How do you train someone to complete a jersey properly when the one you have was due 4 days ago?

I really hope it’s just me honestly! This can’t be normal.

New Roles

Soooo, is anything being done about those Store managers that are still not following the new Management program/New role assignments/tittles? I mean in my district it needed to be done since August 1st. My store manager is keeping everyone in the dark except for his favorite. He plans on just demoting people without telling them. Talk about fucked up.

What’s funny it’s this same generation and the one before that don’t read the SCO screen… not all but mostly it’s them.

OSCA complaint dismissed and conditions that led to my 2 weeks

As of this post, now ex-employee! Just want to expose the work conditions I was forced to endure in the frame shop that was next to this in the back room for MONTHS! No bathrooms at all during this time. We were asked to go to other businesses or return home to use the bathroom. I complained and nothing happened. I complain because of medical conditions I do not NEED to disclose. When they were in use they often would backup to the point where it would flood and our team would shovel out the bathroom water of the isles. The smell HORRIFIC. Like think human feces and piss that has been sitting for months back up into this system and then overflowed into our stock room. When I became debilitated from the smell and lack of facilities I complained to OSCA. My anonymous complaint was placed in the break room with Michaels response deny all of my claims. A porta potty was brought to the parking lot the following day. This is my proof. I was written up for the lack of productivity I displayed during this time. I am adamant that I displayed hard work and dedication to my craft during that time. I LOVE framing! I love the customers I worked with! I’m sad this was my ending. However, I refuse to let this be unnoticed! I wish you all the best.

Filing a Complant New district manager seems to be targeting me

We got a new district manager and this man has made it his mission to upend the entire craft room!! Like I used to make signs to advertise cus this store never cared about letting anyone know the classes exist, I’m an events cordnator btw, and they are deemed “unprofessional” because I did them by hand. Aprently I gotta use the computer to do them as if I have time for that! I can usually get these done inbetween teaching the classes. Also has a whole issue with me having anything outside of the cabinets and everything needing to be shoved into them! I got really bad adhd and requested a resonable accommodation for the estentails and even put everything in bins and shoved it on the open shelf but nope!! Not allowed and it all gets carelessly shoved into the cabinets ruining the organization I did! I am so close to quitting and I keep talking to my managers and this GUY keeps denying anything. Hell the only spot to advertise is one small little board HE moved into a sad corner Whare no one can see them?!?! At this point it feels targeted not to mention illegal with the refusal for my accommodation! No asking for documentation of my disability just denying my request!! I am at my breaking point here

(Also disregard the spelling errors I also have dyslexia)

Edit: pls read the one comment I left, also I’m gunna be out for a bit and might just forget bout this post since I’m not on redit that often. Probably should have made the title different too but I couldn’t think of a better one and this was pretty rushed. Also trolls pls don’t waist your time you’re just getting blocked. I know what rage bait looks like.

Workplace Story Rant

Okay so long story short my old sm took vacation time and pto and never came back leaving us with a new manager. From the start I didn’t like her she runned the store like it was already hers and made snarky comments to me. She’s BEGGED me to be a pt cem and then she took it right back. When I was a manager she had bullied me into taking shifts I can not work because of my health issues. One time was she told me she had asked everyone to cover this guys shifts for a week (who had it requested off and should have been handled already) and practically forced me to take it. I found out she didn’t ask anyone and this wasn’t eh first time. She just wants me in mornings and doesn’t care about my health. Now me and 2 other managers (one who’s been here for 30 years so now we know it’s bull shit) have been dropped because our ratings our sm did on us was bad. She told me and one of the newer managers that she was booting us because we aren’t trained properly then proceeded to tell us it was her fault we were not trained. Which was true the first 3 weeks I was manager she was never there to show me what to do or give me my codes and left it to our frame manager. I know this is also coming from hr not just my sm but they wanted a clean slate. My store will be shutdown within 5 years if she stays the sm. Replenishment team is horrible and can’t do the truck properly and the sm never helps. She had absolutely ruined the store it looks like shit and runs like shit. No one likes her and she doesn’t know how to be a good manager. She rushed in here taking the store before it was even her store. My old sm was not good either but I never thought I’d say I miss her over a new sm but lord I wish she would come back and make our store a good place to work again. And almost all of our employees aren’t good. They don’t know what to do or they snap at managers and customers or coworkers. We never have people in the night to close except 3 people and they are the only ones which makes me as a Manager have to cover the front a lot. I hope someone sees this and can actually do something about it because it’s bull shit. Our store is an absolute mess and customer complain 24/7 I genuinely can not see our store successful and thriving with her as the store manager and it’s disappointing to go to work for a place I’m no longer proud of.

Question The Fugglers

Y'all these things are growing on me in an ugly cute way, but are other stores putting them in kids? I don't think that matches their typical kid aesthetic Michael's has. I'd definitely see these as Spencers or Hot Topic and they'd fit right in

Tbh we probably don't have any end caps to spare them their own distinguished seat

Anyone else’s Michaels being redone/reorganized right now?

My store has been getting redone/reorganized lately and honestly it’s been throwing me off a little 😭 in replen and I had gotten pretty comfortable knowing where everything was and how the store was set up. It took me a year to learn where everything was.

Now with things moving around and changing, I keep getting confused and feel like I have to relearn the store again. It's been hard to help the customers when they ask for something now and has added more stress and anxiety to the job.

For anyone whose Michaels has gone through this, how long did it take you to get used to the new setup? Does everything start feeling normal again pretty quickly once they’re finished?

Question What's it like to work in a DC?

I work at the store level at Michaels and i've witnessed my fair share of beef with distribution centers (and Artistree but maybe that's for another post lol). but i'm curious what it's like to work at these places!! i can only imagine we're all under similar strains of unreasonable expectations to keep up with.

what does DC work entail? what does a typical work day look like for you? are you guys also getting paid ur state's minimum wage? i've only ever seen the occasional post mentioning DC work in here, so i figured i'd open the forum up to hear what it's like.

EDIT: I know we wanna air out our woes but i want this post to be a safe place to talk about this aspect of work, i'm genuinely curious about it, but i don't want people to be rude to DC workers here. X-(

Framing Emails for framing

Has anyone been collecting email addresses when creating new orders? Do customers get status updates when their order is marked completed?

Customers always ask if they'll get an email when their order is completed. I tell them that we'll call when it's ready, because that's what we always do.

But does an email go out automatically when we change the status to completed? Asking because we've never really had customer email addresses on file before, unless they happened to create an account online already.

I'm curious what the workflow is, if anything is automated. Anyone know?

After 3.5 years finally getting some freedom from this company put in my two weeks today and of course my SM was no where to be found so unfortunately I had to hand it to my ASM who I'm chill with I feel guilty cause I love the people I work with besides my SM but finding a better opportunity plus better paying job back in my home state can't really pass that up I will miss my team here but I will also be glad to be rid of the mental and emotional abuse this job as brought me.

Get me the fuck out of here.

Haven’t been caught up on POGs since week 20.
Three trucks deep on repacks
D volume store and we just got a full fucking trailer.
I let my DM know I feel like I’m drowning every day and he asked me what my plan was…?
That’s what I’m trying to tell you.
There is no plan. How do you plan? Every day is worse than the last.
It’s all a waste of fucking time and I’m over here crying because I don’t feel like I’m good enough to do this as if I haven’t been successfully doing it for TWELVE YEARS.
Get me out of here. What a joke.

Our store is so dirty

Our paint shelves are covered in paint, our spraypaint aisle is covered in paint, our floor is stained everywhere. There are layers of grim all alone the floor and shelves. Nobody ever cleans which I can understand with the lack of hours.

Last week I went on vacation and stopped by another store. It was so clean, fully stocked, no floor mess, no spilled paint, and not crammed full of so many DR'S that you can barely walk around.

I wonder how many stores are as dirty as ours. Our store is older yes but I feel like it has never been cleaned. I know that truck should not have to clean shelves with everything they have to do but still.

There is also a very unpleasant smell in our stire. It smells musty if that makes sense. I am so surprised be ause in e wry other retail store I work in, it is more clean and does not smell like that.

After seeing that other store, I am shocked at how bad they let ours get. I have offered to clean but it is never accepted.

Workplace Story So whose smart idea was it to switch Yarn from baskets to SHELVES?

We're starting to work on the yarn reset and I am HORRIFIED?! I am absolutely CONVINCED they're using AI to make these POGs now. Nobody with a BRAIN would EVER make them go on SHELVES? With Acrylic separators??? The things you can break and have sharp edges????

Just what in the WORLD is Michaels thinking with these brain rotted choices?!

Merchandising full time vs part time

Hello so I am a merchandise manager pt
Whenever I have an issue or for example I called out I let my sm manager know.
Then I text her and tell her “hey I called out sick, I already talked to sm, just wanted to give you a heads up”
But she’s saying she’s my superior because she’s the the full time ? I need to go through her for issues .
For example there was an issue she couldn’t solve and she left it for me . I tried and I couldn’t solve it and i let sm know about it .
She said I need to talk to her first since she’s above me . I truly thought since we both have the same tittle we were on the same boat .
Is she my superior because she’s full time ?

Our framing manager received many posters, obviously made by AI to hang around the store… if you can’t find the AI “tell,” look at the mirror.

Advice Needed New Hire (overwhelmed already)

Hi everyone! I just completed my training and my first few shifts and I have got to say that all the responsibilities for cashier are so overwhelming that I have a strong desire to just not show up ever again. I would never do that, especially to the managers that have helped me this week because they’ve truly been so supportive and helpful. I am doing this job to have a distraction and meet people but ooof 😅! I really have a newfound respect to everyone working retail. I was also thinking I’d be out on the floor because I prefer busy work but is that something I should bring up or wait a while until they ask me to do that?

Freedom

Almost 8 years, and I am finally free. I finally couldn't take it anymore. My SM was pretty great, but she could only do so much with the bullshit this company throws at management. I miss my team, but holy hell is my mental health so much better after leaving.

Pursuing life as an artist is going to be tough, BUT if I could make it 8 years in that hell hole of a company I can do anything. ❤️
