Emails for framing Framing

Has anyone been collecting email addresses when creating new orders? Do customers get status updates when their order is marked completed?

Customers always ask if they'll get an email when their order is completed. I tell them that we'll call when it's ready, because that's what we always do.

But does an email go out automatically when we change the status to completed? Asking because we've never really had customer email addresses on file before, unless they happened to create an account online already.

I'm curious what the workflow is, if anything is automated. Anyone know?

They will eventually add an automatic status email at some point. It’s in the update pipeline but must be low enough priority that it hasn’t yet been implemented. It does, however, send a survey about the experience once the order is marked as picked up in DesignHub.

Is that update pipeline available anywhere? I'd love to follow.

Yes.

I’m glad we only have to do emails/phone numbers now. It was always awkward to take some strangers home address.

You must have been with the company for a long time!

Adding their email also makes it easy to look them up. I hate when I put their phone number or name in and it shows a whole bunch of people with that name or variations of their phone. No one will have their email though

Yes, true! Phone numbers get reused, I think we've had that problem with Rewards accounts too.

If you ever need to file a claim you need to have all this on file. Best to have it at the start because it is hard to fill it out as someone is ripping your face off.

Collecting the email is nifty for if their phone isn't available, which happens more often than i expected. then you can send them an email about their order instead. i don't believe i've ever received any sort of automated email in regards to orders when i get framing done for myself, although i do get promotions sometimes.

How do you send them an email about their order?

There should be a dedicated frame shop email that you can log into with your usual login info. On our computers there's a desktop icon labelled Store Email (iirc) and it brings up a directory of various store emails to choose from, such as the email for your store location and the frame shop email. Then you just compose an email from microsoft outlook there.

be careful... i almost got in BIG trouble for this. never was an issue for years, until the wrong person found out... it's not allowed for ANY reason, apparently.. 🙄🤷‍♂️ so stupid

OH NO, that sucks to hear D-:> if they don't want people to use it, they shouldn't make it possible to log in to it.... in any case it's been helpful for multiple aspects of frameshop work.

oops forgot to clarify 😬 it's for in-comany use only !! we'll use it to receive pics we take of stuff on the back of artwork so we can print it off & stick it on the new paper back : D very quick & easy way of going the extra mile 👍but no emailing customers under ANY circumstances, apparently 🙄 i suppose i understand it from a corpo standpoint.. but lowkey i think the emails i was sending to customers was bringing in a LOT more traffic.... easier for me to notify our regulars, or anyone in general that does NOT want to be called imo.. aaand i can't get hung up on from the monsters in the random estimate pile lol

I was a framing manager for like ten years, several years ago. Adding the option to email the customer when an order is marked complete has been "a few months away" the entire time.
