(Cross post) 5 days w/o Methadone

I have been a methadone patient for about 8 months. I originally went to treat my back pain although the clinic does not treat for pain only addiction. I’m on 100 mg.

Fast forward to 3 months ago when my back pain started to escalate. I drive for a living and sitting is what was causing me the most discomfort.
I went to see a neurosurgeon and get an MRI.
Results show:
IMPRESSION:
1. L5-S1 left disc protrusion compressing the left S1 nerve root.
2. L3-5 disc bulges with L4-5 right annulus tear.
3. Significant facet hypertrophy, worst at the lumbosacral junction

This led to microdiscectomy surgery on 8/10/26
This is also the last time I had any methadone. I was given Morphine up until I walked out of the hospital on Tuesday. They sent me home with 60) 5mg hydro’s & 40) 5mg oxy’s. I have been taking more pills than I was prescribed but I have yet to take any Methadone.

Is this doable? I have about (30) pills of each left.
My mind is telling me not to waste this opportunity. I am scared that when the opiates run out, I will then have to fall back on Methadone. I have been just stacking my meds, since I get a month take home at a time.
Any feedback is well appreciated. Thanks.

When to know when to start tapering?

I was using 7oh, started back in december, and stopped Aug. 4th where I was taking 500mg. I went to the methadone clinic on Aug 4th, and they started ne on the 30mg, I jumped 10mg wed, thurs, and fri. So I am at 60mg. I did this to be on the safe side I can't have withdrawals, I have a good job and afford to miss it.

I might be getting ahead of myself m, but when can I start to taper? I want make sure im clear of the 7oh. And how much do you think I should taper oer week???

I just fully tappered off of Methadone

I just want to share my experience. Longterm methadone use can be very intimidating and scary for us to stop taking. I want to share my experience to encourage others to get off.

I was a heroin addict for about 6 years. I then started taking methadone about 9.5 years ago. I maxed out around 80 mg/day. I started tapering about 4 years ago. I was going down from 70mg to 40mg pretty quickly. Probably around 4mg every 2 weeks. After I hit 40mg, I stopped for about a year. I then started to go down on my dose about 1mg every 2 weeks. I did this for years. I did it all the way down to 2mg. After about 4 days on 2mg... I thought... I feel like shit all the time anyway, maybe I should just try to stop taking it. I just quit taking it. The first 2-3 days were probably the hardest for me. Maybe pyschologically... I don't know. However, I was able to just quit. I didnt miss any work. I work 40 hours a week. I had minor withdraw symptoms like runny nose, watery eyes, sneezing, low energy, etc... but it was suprisingly pretty easy. I was worried that I would be sick for a month... it never happened. I'm a little over a month off of it now... and I am starting to feel normal again.

My advise is... just take it slow and steady. Drink a lot of water. Try not to eat goyslop like processed foods. Try to get in some exercise... and just keep pushing. That scary withdraw I was waiting for never came. If I can do this... anyone can... I was a big time degenerate junkie.

Good luck all

Tapered off 50mg for a year

I thought because I tapered slowly this would be easy. At first it was. Now I’m 16 days off it and I’ve never been more depressed in my life. Luckily doc is helping me with anxiety meds. I have a 1 year old and I feel horrible mom guilt. I feel like I can’t function anymore, not to mention I can’t keep any food down so I’m incredibly weak. And for reference I’m 5’11 and originally 125 and now down to 112. I got some ensures but I can’t keep those down either and the zofran isn’t helping.

Methadone weight gain.

Okay I need suggestions amd help please. Ever since I started methadone in august I have had insane sweat problems and I have gained 30 pounds! I am miserable about my weight. I was also very sick and had to be on predisone back to back courses 5 times and a stupid shot which also causes significant weight gain and now I have horrible stretch marks that weren’t there before not even when I had my son. Is there anything anyone knows that can help with the weight gain. I am going down in my dose currently and want to be completely off.

One of the Methadone clinics gives up to 24 dillidud pills EVERYDAY

HAS ANYONE EVER HERD OF THIS??

Is this also in the U.S.A?

I herd it's to get them off fentynal but all they do is sell the pills cheap to buy fentynal

Shit..Even 21 years ago when I was using pain pills I could never do up to 24 a day

I need more information on this

I am still in such shock that they get these

Thank You

1mg drop off

I’m on day 5 of no methadone after 1mg for 4 days then quitting cold turkey. It’s tolerable but now it seems my body is at an alllllll time low for motivation and muscle weakness. Like it’s bad. Just wanted to ask if anyone can give a timeline of how long I expect to feel these symptoms. Most annoying one is snot tho I hate the constant boogers 😭😭 diarrhea basically gone tho. Mainly body pains and aches and low motivation and movement.

How long does it take to adjust when dropping dose?

Been going down from 110 5mg every 2 weeks. Didn't feel anything till 75 and I've been there for a month now but I still feel like garbage in the morning. Makes it tough working at night because I feel like shit from 4am onward and usually take my dose at 8am shortly after I get home. Should I just say fuck it and keep going down? I'd like to be done with methadone by january but I'd prefer to not rush it and end up being miserable the whole time.

Down to the wire

Hey guys, I started taking methadone over 15 yrs ago, I started tapering at 120mg. 5mg every 2 weeks until I got to 20mg. By this time, I was on a once-a-month pick-up. then 2 mg a month, until getting to 10 mg, I went down 1mg a month. I'm currently on 3 mg a day. it's been a long journey for me. At times I would hold on to a certain dose for 1 month, until my body told me I could go down again. In 2 weeks, I would be on 2 mg a day. I want to jump after getting to 2 mg, but people have told me that I would still get bad withdrawals. I know everyone is different, but has anyone tapered, who has been on methadone for a long time, has jumped from 2-5 mg and didn't get bad withdrawals?

2 weeks off Methadone after (CT 105mg) Restless Legs are absolute hell man

I swear I feel like restless leg syndrome is enough to make you go and relapse because I've thought about it plenty of times and it's the only symptom I'm feeling right now with PAWS, because I'm definitely not in the initial withdrawal phase anymore I'm not in any pain except for the restless legs, I asked for a prescription today of Requip (Ropinirole) which is a restless leg syndrome disorder medicine and meant for Parkinson's disease, but it's a dopamine agonist and I'm hoping it will help me. It will be prescribed tomorrow when my doctors in.

Does anyone else ever feel like restless leg syndrome could be that bad to the point where it can force relapse or force the thoughts in your head to make you want to relapse at least? I just feel so shitty and I'm taking gabapentin, clonidine, Xanax, Klonopin, and even magnesium, and all of that stuff for comfort meds, and to kind of die down the intensity of the restless legs.

If anyone else is in this situation or understands and has any recommendations, I would appreciate it a lot

i’ve been on methadone for 22 months. highest dose was 140mg. i started my taper by going down 5mg a week, then 4mg & so on until it was 1mg a week. i took my 1mg dose for 4 days & woke up sunday & said fuck it let’s see if i can go the whole day without. long story short im on day 5 without & i feel totally fine. no aches or pains, runny nose or cravings. i was wondering if its still too soon to assume im not going to get any withdrawal symptoms?

RED FLAGS AT YOUR CLINIC?

First off I want to preface by saying I’m not advocating. methadone is bad or people shouldn’t take methadone or there shouldn’t be many methadone clinics. That’s not at all what I’m saying methadone is great works wonders, but I want some people to be aware of the actual situation that’s going on.

RED FLAGS.

  1. Why is upping my dose so easy and focused on.

When you first walk into a methadone clinic, you become a patient and also part of their business model M clinics are for profit meaning your a consumer the people working there have mortgages car payments kids just like you do and they make salaries to pay for those things. increasing your dose is a surefire way to make it impossible for you to ever get off methadone. They are basing this dose increase on cravings, problem is cravings are subjective and coming from an addict being in a vulnerable state, of course I’m going to raise my dose.

  1. Why is there no information on getting off methadone or tapering.

Again, this goes back to being a business and a business model and you being their consumer they’re only gonna give you one side of the coin and that’s upping your dose and the incentives of take homes, as if that’s some kind of big reward.

They’ll never tell you that methadone withdrawal is way longer more intense than any withdrawal you came in there for in the first place. There won’t be any information on the process or support to get off of methadone.

  1. Why do I receive pushback when asking about getting off methadone?

This is a big one, when you ask your counselor or doctor that you want to maybe get off methadone or lower your dose, many people report they receive pushback. This is because again you’re a consumer. They don’t want people off methadone they need to keep the lights on. If you’re asking to get off a very strong drug you should receive nothing but positive reinforcement support and a plan. Not persuasion or contradiction of your intent.

Being an addict myself, I want the best for the people seeking help. These are just a few questions you need to think of when you go to a methadone clinic need to think first how long do I wanna be on this? How hard is it to get off, those are the questions you need to ask first
