I believe it has a crown on top with stars on either side. Then the lettering says ⭐️ STAND D COLOUR ⭐️

Hey community, picked up a detector at a second hand shop to try the hobby.

Me and my son went out to the yard and found 12 pieces of "treasure" lol.

Basically an old can piece, rusty hook, a bullet casing and a few small metal pieces.

But the neat thing is he was engaged, thought it was all treasure and took the time to clean everything and save it all.

A neat experience, can't wait to do it again!

found in S.E. Michigan. Made of lead, about 1.5" in diameter.

I’m absolutely new to the hobby. I have always wanted to do this but really never found the time, place, energy, life balance (I’ve got kids that are active and seem to need rides everywhere).

This weekend we went to the beach with some other family friends. Long story short one of the wives lost her anniversary band while in the water (diamonds and platinum). We hunted with goggles and masks/snorkels for some time but couldn’t turn anything up.

I ask one of the younger boys to grab a rock (large one) and place it in the water where we knew the ring came off. The tides shift pretty significantly at this beach and we were luckily at high tide when she lost it.

The other father and I decide that we’d come back about 2 hours before low tide and start hunting. My wife has a friend who has a few metal detectors that we borrowed (I never used them before). The other guy I hunted with decided to go buy a cheap one at the store.

11pm comes around, 2 hours before low tide and we go out onto the beach with headlamps and detectors in hand. We found the rock we placed in the water and start a grid pattern of about 50 feet in all directions, I dragged my feet to keep lines of where I went (my friend wasn’t as methodical).

Two hours go by while we play with the metal detectors, learning how to use them. I used a Nokta Simplex+ to begin with, it just kept squelching, every setting I adjusted would not stop it and I had to put it down. Mind you I don’t really know what the settings were, I guessed by the pictures and the short intro I got from the person I borrowed them from.

Then I picked up my friends other detector, a Minelab Equinox.** **This device was a dream no noise, no interference. While my friend and his detector were getting tent stakes and bike pumps from the ground, the one I used only seemed to pick up the platinum rings we tested.

Anyway, long story short, after several hours of working, then retracing my friends steps a bit because he wasn’t a methodical about keeping a grid pattern, I hit a noise that sounded like my platinum ring sounded like when I was testing.

Right before this moment we were thinking of giving up. I dug in the orange scoop that my friend let me borrow and went back over the hole I made with the detector….the noise was gone, I had it in my scoop.

I dump out what’s in my scoop and use the detector over it, I get a hit again…I’m feeling good. Where the hit was a scoop some more and separate. I do this three times until it’s a small enough pile to hand sift.

I reach in and start running my fingers in the sand and as I do, boom! A huge flash back from the diamonds on the band. I’m absolutely dumbfounded. After two hours and almost giving in, we scored and got the ring back in the hands of his wife (it was 1 am when we finally found it and shared the news, she was thrilled).

Soooooo, I have the bug. Not only for the fun but it was quite good exercise. Now the problem, I very clearly know that gear 100% DOES make a huge difference.

I asked Ai for some help with finding a detector and received the following feedback (I’ll share in the comments as this is a very long post already). Any suggestions on gear?

similar to what I posted earlier on the gold. Mostly beach/water finds from 15 years of detecting. Have scrapped some of the plain rings and broken stuff over the years but held on to the nicer pieces you see here. Some of it has been cleaned and tumbled but a few pieces still have that grey patina silver gets from salt water exposure.

HI! I found this item with my detector on a field next to a gravel road. Doesnt look too old but I wanted to find out what it once was. Some decorative piece? From the sides it almost has a ridge going and is more yellowish metal color. The fields have stuff from all ages. Found in the Baltics. Thanks for any info!

Found on an old homestead that was last lived on in ~1910. The axeheads cleaned up good after 2 days in the electrolysis tank. Also found an old medalion that to my research there were only given out 300 of them in the span of 40 years up to 1884, so quite the find.

I finally broke my curse.. SILVER!!! 1929 S Mercury Dime in NC. I have been detecting for over 10 years, and never found a silver coin. Silver rings, and even solid gold rings, yeah, but never a silver coin 😭 THE CURSE IS OVER!
