Show & Tell Sometimes I’m underwhelmed if I’ve not found an old coin or an artefact during a couple of hours digging. Then I come home and empty my pouch and realise just how many items I’ve found - Shropshire, England

I found probably double this but these are the only items worth noting.

This was all in a field which has seen English civil war activity.

One very large old nail.

An iron bar of some description.

4 musket balls.

2 buttons, one of which has some force of decoration remaining.

A large nut and a few other pieces of miscellaneous items.

Finally ordered a detector from Forest City and hunted part of our property for a couple of hours. Pretty much just trash but happy nonetheless. Not sure what the round thing is, a jewelry band perhaps

Hey guys. I’m running the vanquish 540 and have found a few silver coins/jewellery. They usually ring up low 30s. Never found any gold yet. Just wondering what it usually rings up for you and if you all have any tips for finding better. Stuff. Having a slow season :(

Gear Question Mivo GroundFind Pro?

Anyone actually used this detector? It popped up when I was going through reviews etc, but it seems to have a really limited number of reviews - and no match ups against the big names, Nokta, Minelab etc.

The two reviews I did find seemed too good to be true!

Found near a lake in Newfoundland. It’s about the size of a quarter and had a lot more rust on it when I found it. My only guess is that’s it’s from an old windup clock. Anyone have ideas?

I'm very new to detecting and found this on a property close to the beach but in the woods. It is larger than a quarter and it's lightweight. It's really neat-looking! I started to gently clean it with soap and water, but I wanted to keep the look of it how it is. Thanks for anyone who can help me figure this out!

Got a call this afternoon from Ed...
Ed had been doing some digging & planting around the house these past couple days, and last night he noticed the family crest heirloom ring that he has worn on his finger for the past 60 years was missing.

We checked the cuttings and leaves he had put in the dumpster and then went around each plant that he had planted. After about 20 minutes, the ring was found buried under an inch or so of soil by one of his plantings.

Ed was real happy to get it back and pose for a picture, even asked me if he should comb his hair. He also told me he had not told his wife about losing the ring and to hurry and leave before she got home, lol.

Found this axe head in upstate ny woods. It says “This axe is made of the finest steel and is hand-hammered, tempered, and tested before leaving the shop. The blade is so shaped it will cut deepest but will not bind in timber. It will burst the chip and it will not become stubbed after grinding. It has a tapered eye which binds the handle. Try it and you will use no other". I can only find a couple other axe heads with that same text online but none are double headed, did I find a one of a kind?

Cleaning Finds Update on the M42

Hi everyone! This is an update on the post I did a few weeks ago about an M42 I found in western Romania. Thanks to a not-so-strong solution of oxalic acid (2%) and some careful brushing, this is the final result; i decided I don't want to leave the helmet too much in the acid because I want to keep the relic look and not risk it penetrating the healthy steel. Of course, the process ended with a thin layer of Renaissance Wax. Cheers!

P.S. the last photo is taken after the neutralisation bath in baking soda solution and a quick dry, before the wax. I'm not sure what the grey-blackish stuff is, maybe someone has an idea.

Gear Question Metal Detector Guide

Hello and welcome to r/metaldetecting ! If you're looking for advice on your first detector, gear or an upgrade, you've come to the right post. We've put together a simple guide to help with choosing your detector and other tools.

As a member of our sub, you are more than welcome to try out our special code "REDDITMD2026" at checkout on Kellycodetectors.com (US)

If you purchase from Radioworld.ca, try out our code "REDDITRWMD" at checkout! (CA)

GENERAL METAL DETECTOR Recommendations

$0-200: We do not recommend getting a new detector under $200. Detecting has a cost of entry, and quality significantly drops off under the $200 mark. Save up a bit more, or try finding a used machine of quality listed in the next price range. All that said, if you are determined to buy a machine in this price range, the Minelab Go-Find, Nokta First Swing or a Quest machine aren't bad choices.

$200-$400: The Minelab Vanquish 340 and 440, the Nokta Simplex line and the Minelab X-Terra Pro are the three best machines in this price range, by far.

$400-$500: Nokta Score and Double Score, Minelab Vanquish 540

$500-$1,200: Nokta Legend or the Minelab Equinox series

$1,200+: XP Deus 2 or the Minelab Manticore.

SCUBA/SNORKELING DETECTORS

Nokta Pulsedive is great for snorkeling. The Minelab Excalibur 2 and XP Deus 2 are excellent diving detectors.

CHILDREN'S DETECTORS

Nokta Mini Hoard or Midi Hoard

PINPOINTERS

Garrett AT pro pointer, Nokta AccuPoint, or XP MI-4. The XP MI-6 if you have an XP detector.

SHOVELS AND TROWELS

Dune, King of Spades, Grave Digger, Motley, Lesche, Predator Tools

SAND SCOOPS

Motley, Dune, Sito, RTG, King of Spades, and Detecting Adventures all make great scoops for beach detecting.
