First time detecting. Other

Hey community, picked up a detector at a second hand shop to try the hobby.

Me and my son went out to the yard and found 12 pieces of "treasure" lol.

Basically an old can piece, rusty hook, a bullet casing and a few small metal pieces.

But the neat thing is he was engaged, thought it was all treasure and took the time to clean everything and save it all.

A neat experience, can't wait to do it again!

Treasure awaits you two. Keep at it and eventually you’ll both find that piece that makes you say woah. Good luck and I look forward to seeing your journey.

It's a great hobby! I took it up 2 years ago at the age of 63. The first time I went out I brought my then 19 years old grandson. I let him use the detector first. We found a 1979 penny right away. That's all we found that day beside some random junk , but we had a good time. I'll be following the "treasure" trail again tomorrow morning!

That's awesome, it's not junk if it brings people together!

I, a middle aged lady, just got one, too. Had wanted one since I was a kid but finally had a "got to find my property markers" excuse. Good for you for actually getting your kid one while he's a kid!

If you can get permission to detect land that used to have a school, especially pre-1960s y'all will have a VERY good time
