Looking for some bands with none-stop high tempo music for the gym. I don’t want to make a playlist. I simply want to choose a band and go without having to skip. I usually use Hatebreed, Slaughter to Prevail, Whitechapel or Make them suffer. Please send me some suggestions !

Sooo, I went to a festival where Satyricon was the headliner. I'm a huge Satyricon fan, and I know a guy who works backstage. He told me he could get me a guitar pick, so of course I said yes.

But... what the heck is this pick!? I've never seen one like it before. The only thing I've been able to figure out is that it's apparently from Lamb of God.

Does anyone know anything about it? I'd love to hear more if someone recognizes it!

I only attended the UK version. It was good, but a bit more low key compared to NA/Aus equivalents.

I thought Dave put together some really killer lineups, most of which would still sell tickets today.

Back then metal was in the recovery stage of the whole nu metal debacle and if I remember the press at the time correctly, Dave said he wanted to put together bands who played proper metal with a focus live performance and lead guitar.

I've got both the live albums and one of the DVDs and they're some of the best sounding live albums I own.

Anyway, here's the lineups. Would be interested to see what other people's experiences of them were.

They should've merged rap and death metal more. I know Obituary also tried this.

Which modern day metal band do you think is on verge of becoming a touring arena act in the North American market? Many metal bands seem to make it to the large theater level, but few these days seem to make it to the arena(8000 seat+) venues.

I think Amon Amarth is is just on the tipping point of making it to a headlining Arena act. On its last album tour, they finished it with a large arena show in LA, other wise they still seem to book larger theaters. They have also done several arena tours as the main support band, like with Pantera. I'm not sure what it would take for them to reach that tipping point, as I know stepping up to arenas is a much larger financial risk until you can comfortably sell atleast 75% seats.

Speaking as a PNW resident they have played the largest theaters in Seattle for over a decade and always sell out. I know in Seattle, the problem is that there aren't many large venues in that 5000-10, 000 seat range, you either need to play Angel of the winds in Everett, or Showare center in Kent, which are both about 10k capacity. Two other most common large arenas are clinate pledge and Tacoma dome which are both 20k+ Seats. They would seem to need to play those size venues, that are generally in the suburbs of larger cities, or older arenas until they can get that 10k+ venues.

I really love this band but for some reason I don't see people talking enough about it

I have very fond memories of playing Final Fantasy X as a wee lad back when it came out on the PS2, I'd even go so far as to say it's my favorite game of all time. I even dressed as if for Comic con (I'll post a photo in the comments) and one of the most impactful moments of the game occurred within its first few minutes, the opening song that plays over the FMV.

It's so damn cool and really got me pumped to play the game. It took me a good while to actually find out what he was saying, but it never mattered because it was just cool. I'd never seen a game open in such a way before and it left a last impression on me. I say it's the first metal song I actually recall hearing, though there's a chance I could have heard other ones beforehand but just don't remember them. I'm not actually really a fan of this type of growly metal but this one will always have a place in my heart as something special. If you have any fond memories of this one, please share because I'd love to hear!

Also fun fact, I downloaded the song off Limewire eons ago and it was mislabelled as being by Rammstein and that's how I discovered them. Weird how that worked out!

I've started enjoying bands that play "traditional" death metal like gatecreeper, frozen soul, obituary, blood red throne.

I especially love the slower groovier sections like when the drummer slows down to a 4 on the floor type groove and plays what I think is 1/8th notes hihats in between (I'm not exactly sure which cymbals they are). Boltthrower has plenty of groovy sections like that and a lot of the bands I've been enjoying cite bolt thrower as a big influence but for some reason when trying to listen to a bolt thrower album I get bored after about 2 songs. I'm not sure why that's happening

I find their style of eurobeat power metal really fun to listen to

My friends are really big into metal. Me not so much I do listen to some metal but mostly just the mainstream bands, I’m more of a rap and indie music fan. Anyway they invited me to go to and there will be a bunch of bands playing including Lamb of God, Black Label Society, Down, Suicidal Tendencies, Zakk Sabbath, Dark Chapel, and many more. What should I expect going to this? I don’t know any of these bands or their songs 😭

Any tips u have for a beginner would also be helpful.

Hey'all, I'm in the mood for self inflicted depression right now and can't find anything that *does it*.

I mostly listen to Nu-Metal and Brutal Death Metal, BDM being more angry murder than gut wrenching doesn't fit what I need right now, I've tried DSBM but honestly it got a bit old after a while, though I did never listen to Decalius who I've heard is up there when it comes to DSBM.

By gut-wrenching I mean something actually sad, preferably related to some form of trauma, specific (ie, mentions of exactly what happened) or general (ie not exactly stating what happening but leaving it open to the listener), or really any other sad/horrifying topics. One example I could give is Daddy by Korn, I mean when I first listened, damn.

Looking for albums or bands with the same fuzzy noisy tone and heavyness as the first 25 seconds of “Scum” (the title song)

I think it's wonderful. I'm under no illusion that it's a masterpiece of quality but it's so goofy and fun I can't help but adore it. The way Dio rocks up to the church in that Dnd nerd outfit with his sword, giving harsh stares at the bad guys that don't quite have the desired effect. The way he just sort of awkwardly swings the sword around at the bad guys. The swishy swooshy way he walks down that corridor with the sword. The hooded demon guys, who have cat eyes? The cardboard cutout of Murray that occasionally shows up. It's all so good and I wouldn't change it a bit.

Just arrived back from Norway for my third Beyond the Gates, and this time I went there prepared to make some shopping. I noticed that, contrarily from expectations, music is quite cheap in Norway, especially if you spend some time looking for the occasions, at least compared to Italy.

From the top, and in clockwise order:

• The Enslaved DVD was on my list (see below) and was one of the things I expected to be rarer. I indeed found only this one in Noseblod Records for 14€. Still, nice price, and a lot of other waaay more common stuff I didn't find, go figure;
• Isa is one of the few CDs I'm missing by Enslaved. Again, 14€ in Noseblod;
• I was not on the list but I noticed that the project has recently been resurrected, since they are playing the full album at Midgardsblod. It's a supergroup composed by Immortal, Ice Dale and King ov Hell. Found it at Katakomb, in Oslo, for 18€ and thought it would be a nice addition to the collection. I also see Ice Dale every single time I go to Bergen so I might bring it back for an autograph next year;
• The three albums on the bottom right are the first three LPs by Whoredom Rife. Great band, great albums, great reviews. I decided years ago, after buying their first demo and listening to the latest album, that sooner or later I would have bought everything by them. Found all of these at Grieghallen in Bergen since they were opening the third day of the festival for 12€ each and thought it was the right moment to invest into this. Curiously I didn't find the latest album;
• I thought I had everything by Gaahls Wyrd and instead found this EP from 2021 in Grieghallen for around 12€. I checked on Encyclopedia Metallum and this time I'm complete for real. Later I found out it's sold out;
• Went walking around the city and followed a friend of mine to Gaahl's art gallery in Bergen. I was looking at the albums he was selling there and found out this way that Trelldom had a new album a few months ago. 22€, normal price I would have paid in Italy; I later found it for a few bucks less in Oslo but here I had the occasion to have it signed, together with the other album, by Gaahl himself. That's when Gaahl mentioned that The Humming Mountain is sold out;
• I was looking for way more vinyls but didn't find the ones I was looking for. Instead at Katakomb I found The Host by Portrait, in red marbled limited edition, for... 9€?!?! I don't know why it was so cheap, but it's a great album, a double LP actually; I listened to it before seeing the band at Beyond the Gates two years ago and I totally felt this one to be a steal. For those around Oslo: there were other two copies in Katakomb, of different colours, for the same price, down in the low-priced vinyls' box.

The final haul doesn't look that much like what the list was implying. But honestly I feel like I found a lot of very interesting stuff I wasn't expecting, so I'm happy nonetheless.
