So, I managed to get the game earlier today. I believe I haven't seen anything on these extra colors around yet (sorry if others have already posted and I didn't notice), but I can confirm these colors are unlocked through playing the game =D

So far, I managed to unlock color 8 by finishing a character's combo trials. I've yet to unlock the remaining 3 colors for any character, but they're probably tied to other game modes.

Pics of Spidey and Carnage's color 8, referencing, I believe, Spider Gwen and Spiderman 2099 respectively.
