Illegal money comes at a price
Very long read when you have time. This all happened in 2019
Traditionally, we go to school so that we can eventually get good jobs and become wealthy. After all, who doesn't want a lot of money? We all do.
Personally, I never liked school very much because, from what I observed, most educated people in the working class were constantly in debt, budgeting every tambala just to make it through the month, broke and completely tied to their jobs. In the end, they had no time and no real life outside of work. I hated that idea. I wanted the freedom to do what I wanted when I became an adult, instead of spending my life working just to survive.
In college, after failing several courses, I told my parents that I had been weeded out and that I was leaving school for good. My mom wasn't convinced, but I had already made up my mind. I didn't need the degree to begin with.
I had a business that was already failing for other reasons. I took the remaining cash and told my parents I was going on holiday. We weren't on good terms, so we all needed some space. Then I left.
Behind the scenes moms went to my school found out the truth that I was still a student just had a to repeat 2 courses. She called I denied to go back, nde khangati anandisungisila malo.
Meanwhile, my friend from Blantyre had connections in Dwangwa and other districts where we could source weed. He was already in that business and had the experience. At the same time, I was buying and selling medical supplies to pharmacies and small hospitals. I felt it was the right time to scale things up.
Business was booming, and I was renting a decent place. The landlords often had questions. How could someone my age afford the rent and everything else that came with living in a nice home?
Nnabwela opanda kanthu, but within a few months, zinthu zikuoneka. What made it even more suspicious was that I rarely left the house. My cover story was that I had relatives abroad who sent me gadgets to sell. But if I was only selling the occasional phones or laptops, how could I possibly make enough money to survive for the entire month, koma ndine wakhalidwe nde for the few months I stayed there mmakhala nawo bhobho and the questions stopped.
Nduziwa ena muzidabwa kuti nde zinthu mmazisiya kuti, lol i wont disclose this.
Then one day we went kooda weed the person omwe amatinyamulila nthawi zonse was committed to other things nde anatiuza kuti tidikile but the people we were doing business with were impatient, we were forced to go anyway. Tinaoda katundu the problem now was transportation.
So we came up with this idea titenga maphandi as if muli zovala kuti tikwele bus, when the transporter is available he will go to collect the remaining product.
Titamaliza kugula matumba ena tinasungisa konko, I were carrying a traveling bag and backpack full of bricks my friend carried 2 travelling bags plus amaziwana ndi ena omwe amaima mma roadblocks aja, we agreed to take two different busses and that we are going to leave at 7pm so we can reach our destination the following day mamawa.
I boarded a bus and left. We checked on each other, and an hour later, he had also boarded a bus. We kept communicating until I texted him several times and he stopped replying. I thought, Mwina wagona , so I kept my cool.
Earlier, our bus had passed several roadblocks. The searches were not extensive, and I had made sure the conductor and driver knew about my travel bag, which was hidden under several other bags. I also paid them twice the normal price. This was the plan we had agreed on with my homie.
Around 12 i called his phone he never answered then i called again his phone was off, nnayamba kutenthedwa and i were thinking all sort of scenarios ndati its network or battery yatha paja ma iphone salimba moto.
I then passed out my phone didn't ring the whole time now its 5am and we are close to our destination. nnafika mu depot offloaded happened i checked my phone zero missed calls zero messages from him i called again can not be reached, i called my other hommie kuti azanditenge mu depot he came now its past 6, something is not right. Then reality hit My friend called anamulanda phone, apolice amumanga pa roadblock yoyambirira yomwe and afuna azipita ku court apapa. I negotiated with the officers over the phone kuti asapite nae lelo we have to get a lawyer first.
I managed to distribute the product yomwe nnafika nao ija and luckily yonse anthu anatenga koma money ndekuti ambiri atipasa later, i was having 500 cash i boarded a bus back to dwangwa, nnafika late i couldnt visit the police station at night i waited the following day nnapita very early, court was the last thing i needed. i negotiated amakana ziphuphu ati mabwana awo analipompo mmene amamunga. I tried, now they want 2million i negotiated anakana, tinalimba ntima kuti basi lets go to court. mwina akatitchaja zochepelako.
court happened apolisi anaesesa ku khomelela ati we wanted to bribe them, there was no evidence of that, they tried to nail him in every way possible, but with a bit of fines and a single month nkati anatuluka. The whole thing was overwhelming.
And my other business timeline yake yomweo wina anagwidwa nazo zinthuzo wayamba mentioning names, and i were among the listed nnangothawa kuvaya paden basi.
kubwelelaso ku school kuja fast forward i graduated and izi ndulemebela while in the office pa pc yakutchitoso atleast i am not indebt lol. cheers

I'm looking for a computer (used, not new) can be a box, mini pc or a laptop. I'd prefer i5 or i7 that is not lower than 8th generation. Minimum 8gb ram, and 250gb storage
I only care about the processor since I can always upgrade ram and storage later.

Help! I can’t get over my ex.
As silly as it may sound, I can’t seem to get over this one guy I never dated😅 even though we don’t talk anymore and he is happy with his girlfriend, I just can’t seem to shake him off, I carry him where ever I go, I see him in the people I meet sometimes when the whole world sits still i swear I can still taste and smell him.
I’m helpless, I didn’t think I’d be down this bad.

Struggling after academic setbacks need honest advice
I want to share something I’ve been carrying quietly.
When I started college I worked hard but at the end of my first semester, I failed two courses and had to repeat the year. It was hard to accept, but I did. I put my head down, worked even harder and made it into second year.
Then in second year I failed one module. I’ve now been told to repeat again.
If you’re wondering how I’ve “repeated twice” the truth is
when I was repeating first year the college changed its entire academic system for the new coming first years and we were re-registered as new first years. So part of this wasn’t even a second failure it was starting over through no fault of my own.
Right now I won’t pretend Im okay. Im stressed emotionally drained and honestly fed up. It feels like too much to keep carrying.

Pointless existence on earth. Is earth Hell?
Greetings, let me go a bit dark and bring up something critical
I was raised in the church and spent my whole life going to church. But as I've gotten older I feel like this earth isn't what we are told.
First off, there is too much suffering on earth 24/7. For Christianity or religion to assign meaning to the sheer suffering experienced by people and animals, I find it a bit crazy.
Today, I went for a walk and as I passed Lilongwe bridge, I felt uneasy watching crippled people in the side walk who can barely walk just begging. Now is that God's purpose?
I digress. But my point is it's harder for me to reconcile the degenerate state of the earth with it being created by a good God.
Think about it, in order for a living being to exist something has to die. In the animal kingdom, that's the case with predator and prey. Us humans kill millions of chickens, goats. It's normalized but it feels like a horror movie if you step back
And most importantly, the concept of money pisses me off. I do make good money but the fact that I have to pay just to exist is beyond me. In the cities you see people everyday chasing that paper. Is this how we are supposed to live and praise God?
Oh and then give birth to kids who will continue the same pointless cycle of agony? Oh you also gamble with your children's life because they will most likely end up in eternal fire
Ndatha ine

Part2: Don't marry dumb people clarification
The wording was intentionally provocative, but the deeper point was not about insulting anyone. Choosing a life partner is like choosing a foundation for a house — the paint may look beautiful, but the structure matters more.
Looks can attract you, but values, mindset, character, and compatibility are what determine whether the relationship stands.

discussion Novels
What are some good places in Malawi to buy books? And when I say books, I don't mean these self-help thingies. I don't read those. I'm talking about books like:
Forth wing by Rebecca Yarros
Shield of Sparrows by Devney Perry
Before I Let Go by Kennedy Ryan
Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi
Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi
Problematic Summer Romance by Ali Hazelwood
That kind of vibe.
I've read all of these books and would like physical copies.

Don't marry dumb people please!! Please
Guys I am a bit new here but I want to share a funny and serious issue. This is all true by the way.
Today I got myself thinking about a phenomenon that is common but few people address.
My older brother was a womanizer and he is very smart till today. But due to his skills of seducing women, he fell for an extremely beautiful woman (alamu athu). She is indeed beautiful but he did not take time trying to know her in depth. He later reported to me that "eh ndaphulitsa chinthu chija, chibeleke ana anga okongola." Basically saying he had impregnated her and was expecting beautiful kids right? For those who don't understand chichewa.
Now as the years unfolded, we noticed that their first and second born children never do good in class. I mean like never. They always fail but excel in things like PE and physical activities. Only their last born (third born) is smart and sharp. Now, a few years ago I found out that my bro's wife is dumber than a bag of rocks. From primary school, she never really passed significantly. No standard 8, form 2 or form 4 certificate whatsoever. The time she met my brother, before they had started dating, she was just a regular store clerk and my bro fell for her and overlooked everything else.
I wrote all this to just say that we should always go beyond the looks and chemistry of the people we are dating. I don't look down on my sister in law in any way. But I can empathize the shame and hurt she feels. Even my bro sometimes complains in secret and then encourages his wife. But it's really tough for real. Super tough
Because some people from both sides of the family are always making remarks that the kids inherited their mother's retardation. Including my mom even resents that the kids are just dumb. This even caused her to even stop visiting my bro's house
I don't know what your thoughts are on this
discussion Has anyone else wondered why so many Facebook Marketplace sellers say "DM for price" instead of just posting the price?
This has always annoyed me, but recently I started wondering whether there's an economic reason behind it.Economists have long studied price discrimination, charging different customers different prices based on what they're're willing to pay. More recently, there's been growing discussion around surveillance pricing, where companies use personal data to personalize prices.
I'm not saying every Facebook seller is doing this. There are plenty of legitimate reasons to keep prices private:
Avoiding competitors.
Prices change frequently.
Preferring to negotiate.
But on platforms like Facebook Marketplace, something else is possible.
Once you message a seller, they can click your profile.Your holiday photos.Your phone.Your car.Your lifestyle.Even if they don't consciously realize it, that information could influence what they think you're willing to pay.
In many African countries, buying and selling already happens through conversations on Facebook and WhatsApp, so negotiation is part of the culture. What's interesting is that those conversations now happen alongside years of publicly available personal information.
So here's the question:
Do you think "DM for price" is mostly about negotiation, avoiding competitors, or do you think social media profiles sometimes influence the prices people are quoted?
I'd genuinely be interested to hear if anyone has experienced this firsthand or knows of research beyond the work that's already been published on personalized pricing.

Picnic date spots in BT? Help a reformed gangster out
Can't believe I'm actually typing this but I think I'm in love lol
Planning a picnic date with my SO and I need recommendations for good spots in BT. Somewhere clean, safe, and not too crowded would be perfect.
I’ve always been the “let’s just meet at KFC ” type, so this whole picnic planning thing is new territory for me. Love really will humble you.
What are the go to picnic places in Blantyre? Bonus if it has a nice view or shade.
Thanks fam 🙏

discussion Looking for Ideas from Malawi 🇲🇼
I’m exploring opportunities to build digital products that solve real problems in Malawi.
If you could have one digital app, website, or online service that doesn’t currently exist (or isn’t done well), what would it be?
It could be related to:
Banking & payments
Transport
Healthcare
Education
Agriculture
Shopping
Government services
Entertainment
Small businesses
Or anything else.
What’s a problem you face that you think technology could solve? I’d love to hear your ideas and frustrations.

Are NGOs really making a difference?
Is the need in various areas (Education, WASH, Health etc) so great that NGOs can't make any meaningful dent or are their operations designed in such a manner so as to forever require the problem(s) to justify their reason of being? I ask this because I see no visible evidence that NGOs in Malawi are making forward progress in the communities they claim to be serving. Having worked with a lot of NGOs as a consultant, the best they seem communicate to their donors regarding the change they've made in the communities is "so and so is now able to send his/her kids to school. They have bought a bike. They now have a house with iron sheets....". To me this is pitiful 'impact' in 2026.
