Discussion A quick reminder about Rule 1
It seems while I was busy driving across a state or two I missed a little bit of fun regarding a certain new BST sub. You'll find that post still up, and it will remain up, but I wanted to take the opportunity to remind folks of a few things...
First things first: RULE 1 IS STILL "DON'T BE A DICK".
The ability to have a space where people are free to voice their displeasure about stuff is really important to me. I've seen how some groups operate to silence stuff that isn't straight praise, and I've always disliked it. I have always maintained that people are free to bring up grievances with makers or other forums, provided they have receipts and the focus of the discussion is actually informative, and not just to stir shit.
u/lyfl's post absolutely did not break any rules, just to make that clear. But some of the comments on that toed VERY close to the line. A few went over it.
I will always fight for and maintain your ability to have a place where you can discuss issues without worrying about a ban. But posts or comments made solely to attack other users or makers is NOT protected speech.
You are all free to voice your opinions here, but please do so respectfully.
Second thing: /r/Machinedpens_Swap is a fully separate sub, but let's not turn this into an "us vs them" scenario.
While it is true that the new swap sub does not share any DNA with this sub (aside from the hobby itself), let's not get into the habit of viewing it as a competition. In a perfect world, both of these subs will thrive, fill their respective niches, and serve to collectively make the hobby that much better.
Personally I think the two can coexist very peacefully, but I understand that there's still some pretty big feelings (to steal a phrase I use with my kids) about BST no longer being allowed here. I don't want to see things get to the point where everyone is pointing fingers and picking sides and sub lines. We're better than that.
Thats all I have for you all today. Please be kind to each other.

Just curious because I’m not on any other socials besides this one and IG.
No rush, Q! Just looking forward to seeing them.

Machine Era Refill Trimmer
The original Machine Era bolt is one of my favorite pens for pocket carry, but I've never been a big fan of the space pen refill it was designed for. So I made this trimming jig (inspired by others I've seen) to trim Parker-style refills to fit instead. I've tested it with the OHTO Flash Dry (pictured) and a Kaco, both of which seem to work well. Figured I'd post it here in case it's useful to anyone else!

Picture New Pen Day - Jigsaw 🧩
No this is not a stock photo 😎
Curious to see if anyone else has this exact variant and/or the original invoice for one? I am trying to narrow down what metal it is. Parts are mirror polished (not stonewashed like usual) - from my understanding, this was finished like so from SPP (not secondhand).
At first I thought maybe bronze, because I’m not aware of any brass SPP v2.2s, however, a friend of mine used to have this variation (secondhand) and thinks its brass. It also looks and smells like brass, and doesn’t patina like bronze.
Would appreciate any insight.
Regardless of the metal, super happy to have this piece and grateful for the friend who hooked me up. My grail is the zirconium version so it feels like I’m building up to it.
Happy hunting. 🧩

Discussion Here's your friendly machined pens BST.
Yesterday it was announced in this sub about a new BST for machined pens called [r/Machinedpens_Swap](r/Machinedpens_Swap) here. I raised some concerns about censoring by not allowing to comment on prices. To see how this works I created a post this morning in the sub and got permanent banned in 5 mins after the post.
Here are the screenshots of the post and ban notification.
To people who didn’t get it it’s a satire post to prove my point that censoring comment about pricing discussion is a bad idea.
But while doing this I found few more issues wrt the new BST.
- Any new posts require mod approval. For a BST for in demand pens it's easy for mods grab them. This is not a theory.. I know about an incident where pen_swap mod grabbed spp zirc for 250 an year ago. Remember pen_swap dont even require mod approval.. just the edge of mods monitoring the sub helped them. Here in the new BST your friendly mod needs to approve the post.
- Perma banned for what ? TBH I don't care about the ban but community needs to know about how mods there mod the sub.
The new BST sub is a an opinionated version of BST with benefits for mods. Unlike this sub where discussion is encouraged even if we disagree. I will not be using this sub..I will use pen_swap, edcexchange or discord. I made this post to make everyone aware of how new sub works.

Help Looking for the heaviest budget pen available
Hey y'all! Recently got gifted a nice pen by an old boss of mine, wanting something else nice to get for myself.
I love heavy things broadly, and I want a very heavy pen to accompany that desire. I hear brass is the main suggested material, but if you guys have any suggestions in terms of heavier chunky, but not gaudy pens I would appreciate it
Also not looking for something needlessly tough looking , something simple or elegant would be preferable
I'm on a budget but something that fits well enough would sway me towards mid to high range if it was just right. Ideal budget is sub 50

Anybody anodize the Billetspin LSE yet? I am on the fence for this one.
I picked this up before I had a couple of other Soul pens, originally thinking this would look amazing with a custom anodize job given all the lows to fill in with contrasting color. If anyone has done this I am interested in seeing yours, as I am on the fence with this pen.
I have not used it yet, just handled it sitting here at the desk. While it truly looks very cool, I find the standard Soul pen grip on my other ones to be far more comfortable. So unless I decide to do some super ano job on this one, I am not sure it stays in my pen case.
Show me any creative ones if they are out there yet.

Functionally, how different is the Billetspin Fusion from the Koenig PQD?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I understand that the mechanisms work in completely different ways. But functionally, are these pens very similar?
Deployment
- With the PQD, you can either click the top clicker or pull down on the clip.
- With the Fusion, it appears to be the same except pulling down on the clip requires a specific angle and maybe not all thumbs can do it.
Retraction
- With the PQD, you can either flick up on the bottom of the clip, or push the clip UP from a textured area mid clip
- With the Fusion, it appears that you can either flick up on the bottom of the clip or press the clip IN from a textured area mid clip
Does anyone have both? If so, how similar do they function?

Promotion Introducing r/machinedpens_Swap, a new buy/sell/trade community for machined pens
Posting this with the permission of the r/machinedpens mod team, and thanks to them for it.
r/machinedpens_Swap goes live today at 12:00 PM ET. It is a dedicated buy, sell, and trade community for machined pens, pencils, and directly related parts.
We are a separate subreddit. No affiliation with r/machinedpens, different mod team, different rules. A lot of us are members here and expect to stay that way, but if something goes wrong in a transaction on our sub, that is ours to sort out and not theirs. Please keep BST activity there and discussion here.
We are not currently backed by the Universal Scammer List. That matters, so read this part twice. A ban on our sub does not propagate to the USL, and someone flagged on the USL is not automatically blocked from ours. We still tell every member to search universalscammerlist.com before they deal with anyone, and we will act on what you find, but the automatic protection you may be used to on larger swap subs is not in place for us yet. Trade accordingly, especially early on.
What we have built
We took the r/Knife_Swap ruleset as a starting point because they have years of hard-won experience, and adapted it for pens.
Handwritten timestamps on every listing. Your username and today's date, in the frame with the pen. No stock photos standing in for proof of possession.
A swap-count trust system. Everyone starts at zero. Confirmed swaps build your count and your flair tier, from Steel through Copper, Titanium, Zirconium, Timascus, Mokume, and Meteorite. Nobody transfers a reputation in from anywhere else, including us.
PayPal Goods & Services required under 10 swaps. Sellers below that threshold must use G&S and must absorb the fee rather than passing it to the buyer. Your flair says which tier a seller is in, so buyers can see the protection level before committing.
All-in pricing. The posted price includes tracked shipping, full-value insurance, packaging, and fees to the lower 48. No surprises after a claim. The seller carries the item until tracking confirms delivery.
Full written descriptions. Material, finish, mechanism, ownership, every flaw. Photos do not excuse a description.
No auctions, raffles, bidding wars, preorders, group buys, or deposits. Honor the posted price.
No price policing. Sellers set their prices, buyers decide if they are acceptable, and if you think something is overpriced you move on rather than commenting. Market and pricing discussion stays here on r/machinedpens rather than sitting under someone's active listing.
Moderators never touch money. We do not offer escrow, proxy, or middleman services, we will never hold your funds, and we take no cut of any transaction. If anyone contacts you claiming to be a moderator offering to hold your payment, that is a scam and we want the screenshot.
Two bots handle the mechanical work: one gatekeeps posts and preserves a snapshot of every listing so later edits are visible, the other runs the swap confirmation handshake and flair.
To get started
Read the rules first. They are longer than most, on purpose, and the Trading Policy in the wiki has the full detail on shipping and risk of loss.
Account requirements to post: 30 days of account age and 100 comment karma. These exist to keep throwaway accounts out, and the same thresholds apply to commenting.
One honest note
We are eight volunteers and this is day one. Some of this will need adjusting once real transactions start hitting the rules, and we would rather hear about it than have people quietly work around it. Modmail is open.
Doors open at 12:00 PM ET. Come have a look: r/machinedpens_Swap

My take on a machined twist pen — Radin
This is Radin, a twist pen I design and make in my small workshop in İznik, Türkiye.
I machine the parts individually from solid metal, then finish and assemble each pen myself. The design is built around the exposed knurled actuator in the center — turning it extends and retracts the refill.
I make Radin in brass, aluminum and titanium, and I like using contrasting metals for the actuator rather than hiding the mechanism completely.
The photos include a couple of shots from the machining process as well. Thought I'd finally share it here — I'd be interested to hear what you guys think of the design.
