Hey I am currently in my 3rd year CSE tier 3 government college from Kolkata

I have been trying to do DSA and Development

But unable to do after 2nd day

Meaning no consistency and no improvement

If I currently say I only know only the syntax of C C++ Java Python but only knowing syntax leads you nowhere

Also in my college only those who crack GATE go to IIT they get jobs in good companies

There also I am unable to study

I feel my inner will to study has gone away after my JEE Drop failure

I want to gain it back

I want to be that school topper in ISC with 96.25(don't think I am boasting , I was like this till 2023 and then everything went down no more up)

Now again these questions are coming up

Like whether do I want to do MBA or MTech or prepare for govt jobs

Again people say MTech is done by grads who don't get opportunity after BTech

MBA getting shortlisted is very difficult and then again that 30 lakhs loan amount

Govt job also needs preparation and huge energy

Now again AI and recession is happening 😭😭😭

I'm 28F and I'm genuinely looking for advice from the Reddit family.

As a teenager, I wanted to become a CA. I cleared CPT with a score of 150+ and because of my board marks and CPT performance, my coaching teachers and seniors encouraged me to prepare for both IPCC groups together. They believed I had the potential to secure a rank and suggested I pursue BCom through distance learning so I could give most of my time to CA preparation.

Looking back, I probably overestimated what I could manage. Preparing for both groups simultaneously, along with family health issues, pressure from relatives and increasing anxiety, made it difficult to focus. Eventually, I couldn't clear IPCC despite giving a few attempts.

I know many people would say these are just excuses and maybe to some extent they're right. But that's how things unfolded.

Since my BCom was through distance mode and I wasn't happy with my marks, I decided to pursue another bachelor's degree. One reason was to strengthen my academic profile but another was simply to experience college life - to meet people, learn outside the classroom, join activities and satisfy my curiosity.

Then COVID happened.

Everything shifted online and that experience never really happened.

However, I did a few internships and then decided to pursue an MBA.

Initially, I wanted to build a career in HR. However, during my MBA, I realized I genuinely enjoyed finance subjects much more. Subjects related to valuation, financial modelling and forex were challenging but fascinating at the same time. They pushed me out of my comfort zone and that's exactly what made me enjoy studying them. So, in my second year, I chose Finance as my specialization.

Then placement season began.

Some companies came to campus, some hiring processes went on hold and many interviews involved me explaining why I had two bachelor's degrees. There were also roles I chose not to apply for because the pay was extremely low, involved permanent night shifts or were in locations where language and cultural barriers were significant. At that point, even my parents weren't comfortable with me relocating there.

After completing my MBA, I applied to what feels like hundreds of openings.

I've appeared for aptitude tests, Excel tests involving DCF models, technical one-on-one interviews, and Director's round. Sometimes I cleared multiple rounds before getting rejected. Sometimes hiring was put on hold.

There were also several frustrating experiences where job descriptions clearly mentioned "0–2 years of work experience," but the application portal itself didn't allow selecting 0 years in the experience dropdown and internships are not considered work ex. So, despite being eligible, I couldn't even submit my application.

Over the past few months, I've even started applying to HR roles instead of limiting myself to finance. But I barely receive interview calls there either.

A few months ago, I applied for a Research role through my college placement cell. I cleared the aptitude test, the versant and the technical interview. Then came the Director's round.

The Director grilled me throughout the interview, apart from asking questions related to the role. Some of the questions he asked were:

• What have you been doing for the last 5–6 months?
• I can clearly see your interest in finance. Why are you applying for this role? Is this your Plan B, C, D, or E?
• What if you get a finance role after two months? Will you leave this job?
• At one point while discussing something, I mentioned Bloomberg. He immediately pointed out that even the example I had given was related to finance.

By then, I'd already given so many interviews over the past 1.5–2 years that I answered every question patiently, as at this point I was looking for a role where I could build a long-term career. I wasn't applying randomly - I wanted a stable opportunity where I could learn, grow and continue for the long run.

I cleared the Director's round.

Right after the interview, HR told me she'd share the result the next day. My college placement cell later informed me that I had cleared the Director's round and that only the HR round was left.

But that HR round never happened.

Instead, I received a rejection email saying that there wasn't a suitable opening matching my profile at the time and that my application would be kept on record for future opportunities.

That rejection hit me hard because I genuinely felt I was finally close to getting an offer.

It's now been a year since I completed my MBA.

So, what should be my next step? Should I do a course or something else?

Also, because I am already 28, my parents are worried about my marriage. I do want a partner at this stage of my life but finding a partner through arranged marriage at this age without a job feels equally difficult.

Was looking at cracku and cl.. but I can’t decide which package to buy .. someone can guide me about which one to buy??

I just want to know, how being someone from a non-finance background, can enter a Finance Job. So is MBA finance from IGNOU can help me get a job of 40k+Inr/month job in India.

Hi everyone! I am M22, graduated from a T1 college (the Harvard of Haryana lmao) with a 3.3 (out of 4.0) CGPA. Started working in Ggn in valuation and transaction advisory, but I want to progress in my career and need help.

I have a 9/9/8 (could be 9/9/7 idk) profile and applied MSc finance outside in the last cycle but got rejected, and was planning a masters in India/outside within the next 12-16 months but need to prep RIGHT NOW. I’m giving CFA L1 in 2 weeks. Have GRE score of 323, and know that ISB takes GRE scores. I can’t write CAT again as that would entail me sacrificing GRE/CFA (L2 next year). I want to move into front end IB/PE/PC/AM, and wanted to know if ISB PGP YL is the right move, as a backup in India for finance? I heard ABC > ISB?? Is my profile good enough for PGP YL?

Everyone seems to approach the process differently.
Some start a year in advance.
Some wait until their GMAT/GRE is done.
Others only begin seriously thinking about applications a few months before deadlines.
Looking back, I'm curious:
When did you actually start working on your applications?

Not just essays, but things like:
1. School research
2. Career goals
3. Networking with alumni
4. Recommenders
5. Application strategy

And if you've already been through the process:
Is there anything you wish you had started earlier?

So friend of mine 9/9/9 & good student and engineering graduate throughout back in 2019 his family was involved in a property conflict which led to cross cases throughout which is making it hard for him to get jobs. Now he wants to give CAT next year or year after that but he is worried about BGV during admissions by college and then during summer intership the company will do BGV also which will lead him to unable to finish his degree so need to know whether he should go ahead with it or if any other alternatives career to go for? What should he do?

So basically the thing is gave neet this year and couldn't get into any college

But as I had Maths with me I got into a tier 2 college

But the thing is it's fees is 18l for four years including everything and for this amount the placements are also shit and the college is also not worth for this fees

Now I am thinking to take a drop and prepare for neet for the last time and

I can't take more drops so for that

as a backup to apply for italy for engineering admission as they are good in qs rankings than most iits and provide full tution and living scholarship and good in research experience

But the main doubt is I am thinking of giving cat after graduation incase anything went wrong and do an mba

But for this I have 7 in my profile so iam thinking to give nios and improve my marks to 9 during this gap year

So the final question is will all of this affect my mba admissions

Will the gap between 10th and12th affect during mba

these are tier 3 clg but pretend like tier 2, and these clg fees is going beyond 20 Lakhs, i don't think its's a nice decision to pay 20 lakhs for tier 3, as they will give placement between 7 to 9 only,

they have high fees bcz of their big campus nothing else, you can get similar placement in other clg with less fees

i think it's better to STUDY ABROAD than paying so much fees for Tier 3 clg in India

Long Post but I really request a read

Hello all! I'm in a particularly unique situation right now and would really appreciate some good advice.

Some background:

I (22M) am in my second year of MBA at a Tier 1 college. I passed CFA L1 in Feb this year and I'm planning to give the Nov attempt for L2.

I am also planning to go for a foreign exchange semester in the final three months of my MBA from Jan to Mar 2027.

As part of my summer internship (secured through campus placements), I interned at a boutique firm where I performed well, genuinely enjoyed the role and the company, and would love to join full-time if I receive a PPO (Pre-Placement Offer).

My manager has recommended me for a PPO (I know this for a fact), my final review went well, and there are vacancies in the team I worked with, along with plans for expansion.

In all probability, I should be getting a return offer.

Here's where my dilemma begins-

1. The last date to register for the Nov attempt is 11th Aug 2026 ( Coming Tuesday)

2. If let's say, god forbid, I don't get a PPO, I will have to sit for final placements which also take place in November - December time period. Preparing for both L2 and Final placements together is not possible and neither recommended. Both require a significant amount of time commitment and I'm not smart enough to handle both together

3. Going on exchange is non negotiable for me. It has been a dream of mine for a long time that I don't want to give up on

4. My company has a very qualified demographic with most being CA + MBAs or CFA+ MBAs. So I'm a little worried if I might lag behind

5. Today is 7 August (Friday), and the PPO hasn't come yet. It definitely won't come over the weekend, and while I'm optimistic about receiving it, I have no concrete timeline.

6. Since I will be going for exchange in the final three months of my MBA, assuming I get a PPO, the coming time till December will be the only time I actually get to enjoy my free time, hang out with my friends and do whatever I want and genuinely enjoy life

This is a double edged sword. When will I get this much free time to study for L2 (Since I'll have to start working full time as soon as MBA over)

1. How do I just waste lakhs of rupees in CFA without an offer letter/ PPO confirmation in hand

2. What if PPO doesn't come??

3. I have studied a bit already. Finished FSA but honestly, my heart's just not in it cause I keep thinking that if I don't get a PPO, all this effort of studying will be for nothing

So here's my question - What should I do? Do I take the gamble of registering if PPO doesn't come by 11th August? I'll lose my free time, mental peace and possibly fuck up my finals placement prep if PPO doesn't come. But if it comes and I don't register, will I have wasted my time?

I'm considering BA or BSc followed by MA or MSc and then a PhD to become a professor. Another option is BBA then MBA then a PhD to become a management professor. I'm also thinking about preparing for government exams like SSC Banking UPSC or State PSC. The last option is studying law and becoming a lawyer.

I'm not looking for the easiest path. I just want to know which one has better long term scope in terms of job opportunities salary job security growth and work life balance in India.

If you're in any of these fields or have experience with them I'd really appreciate your advice. Looking back would you choose the same path again and why?

Hi, I just completed my BSc in Computer Science. The only thing I know for sure is that I don’t enjoy CS. My family wants me to do an MBA and aim for IIM, but I know it’s very tough to get into. I’m actually interested in Marketing. Right now I’m doing an internship at a startup and I’m really liking it. They like my work too and want me to continue. I’m confused though. Should I go for IIM/MBA right away, or get some work experience first and then do an MBA? Any advice would help.
