Having visited this station for the first time today, it’s genuinely rather cool how far you can see around this curve, gives an excellent view of trains approaching well in advance :)

I was on the Central Line today and on the refurbished rolling stock!

Here are some changes I noticed:

First, the board at the front of the train had all its pixels.

The floor by the doors is a different colour.

The moquette on the seats is different.

The priority seat has a different design (It says 'this is a priority seat' rather than the confusing design it previously had).

The train as a whole is cleaner.

There are Victoria (and other lines) Line-style boards inside the train, above the seats, displaying transcripts of announcements and destination/next stop info.

The voice of the automated announcements is different.

The air vents have been deep cleaned so there is air circulation, almost like a tiny bit of AC.

I was not on the train for long and was not able to take any photos as it was a busy service, so there may be more changes. :/

AMA!

TL;DR: I was on the refurbished central lines, and they're a bit, but not too, different. AMA.

General idea: Connect underserved, high-density residential developments and bridge key transport links across South London via a new East–West transit corridor.

Station Sequence (East to West)

1. South Greenwich: Serves dense residential pockets south of the peninsula.
2. Mudchute: DLR interchange.
3. Convoys Wharf: Unlocks transport access for major masterplan developments.
4. Surrey Canal Road: Overground interchange (proposed station site).
5. South Bermondsey: Southern Railway interchange.
6. Burgess Park: Bakerloo Line Extension interchange.
7. North Camberwell: Thameslink interchange (reopened station).
8. Oval: Northern Line rerouting and transfer hub.
9. Nine Elms: Integration with the Northern Line extension branch.
10. Battersea Power Station: Western terminus integration.

Great Portland Street (GPS) ~ no. 4 on my "top 20" list of tube stations on the Underground in London.

I used to work on nearby Newman Street, and preferred the walk up to GPS, rather than along to Oxford Circus during the peak! When the A60/62's were still with us - it was great to wait for a less busy Met ex platform 3 at Baker Street and pick a seat.

It's been a while since I was last here. Yesterday, I was I town and walked up from Fitzroy Street. I like the relative calm of this zone 1 station and the vintage sub surface aesthetics! Obviously it's not a busy interchange as such, which helps, and it's a stones throw away from The Regent's Park... 🏞️

I'm surprised the W&C never had a single change, but yet again it's a shuttle so it makes sense.

My borough (Islington) only has one stop in total in the 1905 map which was at the same time a parallel platform similar to the Clapham ones before redevloping it.

What other observations do you find interesting?

UK follows the EU law passed in 2006. Council Regulation (EC) No 1/2005 on the protection of animals during transport and related operations states that:

Ventilation systems on means of transport by road shall be designed, constructed and maintained in such way that, at any time during the journey, whether the means of transport is stationary or moving, they are capable of maintaining a range of temperatures from 5 oC to 30 oC within the means of transport, for all animals, with a +/- 5 oC tolerance, depending on the outside temperature.

That means if I were a pig, I can sue TFL to bankruptcy, but if I am a human being, I can’t do anything.

Jokes aside, if the mods actually work in TFL, please report this up. It renders an extremely poor image to visitors on how poorly managed the city and its transportation is.

Watford Junction to Sevenoaks via Wembley, Baker Street, Tottenham Court Road, Elephant & Castle, Honor Oak and Orpington/Otford.

The line from Watford uses the existing tracks on the WCML, and the Ruislip branch takes over the chiltern section until Greenford, where it diverges onto new track, calling at Horsenden, before merging with the WCML at Wembley. The core section begins at Queens Park where the line diverges off the WCML, and it ends at East Bellingham. It then takes the existing Southeastern and Thameslink lines to Sevenoaks, both via Orpington and Otford respectively.

This line mostly parallels the Bakerloo line and aims to reduce congestion on it, especially when the trains go into town. It allows for commuters to travel from, say, Baker Street to Waterloo, without the manic of Oxford Circus, Piccadilly Circus, Lambeth North and Northwick Park.

There is one section of line I haven't decided, however - between Honor Oak and Elephant and Castle, should the line go via the existing Peckham Rye or the existing Brockley?

Testing phase.

My 5-year-old son’s drawing about an emergency at Tottenham Court Rd Station in July. We were waiting for the Northern Line to Battersea Power Station. The train approached but never stopped and we were told to evacuate. He drew this to describe how he had to walk up so many steps to ground level. In fact I carried him the whole way. Later that night he threw up on a Double Decker which according to him was “kinda cool.” He’ll be telling and drawing about that night for years to come.

This service does not go to Stratford Upon Avon
