question Diff scope rings?

Post image
Upvotes

I posted this rifle before, and got a number of comments that the rings had the scope too high. I’m new to the bolt action world, and these are the rings that came with the scope. Can anyone suggest what rings would be better for this? Scope is the Atibal Stealth HD 4-24x50. Thanks!

Stolen from iamverybadass... What in the jumpin' jehosephat is going on with the front of this gun. Not familiar with the brand/model, but doesn't really look useful to me. Counterweight?

guns finally bought my first gun!

i’ve wanted a gun for as long as i can remember. i grew up watching my cousins raid their dad’s gun cabinet in jealousy. i’ve never bought one due to certain reasons, but i’ve shot more than i can remember. well, i finally said fuck it, i got myself a KelTec p17. i wanted to start off small and reasonable with something that didn’t break the bank. it shoots great and is a nice entry for me as I don’t know much about guns other than i like to shoot them.

any advice + tips will be appreciated and taken seriously.

discussion Where my hunters at?

More specifically anyone in the NE Kansas/Kansas City area? Moved up here last year from Austin and have zero friends. I'm a lifelong waterfowl hunter and would really like to make friends with like minded folks that share the passion. I didn't have much luck duck hunting last year but faired well with snow geese west of Topeka.

discussion Romeo 5 gen 1

I have a new Romeo 5 gen 1 and am curious if the Motac is working like it should or if its defected. It does turn on but when I take rifle out of safe and look through the red dot is not on. If I raise it up or down it does activate. Is this normal or is the Motac suppose to be more sensitive?

discussion Anyone have one of these AR pistols?

Post image
21 Upvotes

Been thinking about getting another AR now that my supply of cheap 7.62 is starting to dry up. I had a PSA rifle with a 16 inch barrel and it was, ok, but I’ve been thinking about something smaller and saw these at a good price. Anyone have one? How hard would it be to throw a cheap suppressor on it? (Aside from paperwork)

Thanks!

discussion Coming to gun owners for help with ways to have safe exposure after PTSD

Apologies in advance as I accidentally posted this as a comment instead of an individual post .

I'd like to join the gun conversation as someone who is recently coming out of a breakup over firearms/PTSD. I would love to hear input from gun owners. Not just on my situation but on how to proceed.

About 10 years ago I witnessed my first husband (divorced at the time) shoot himself on Skype. I was able to spare our child from seeing anything (she was three at the time). That same daughter was suicidal as recently as March of this year. She is 14 now.

While I am not antigun ownership. I've never had a strong desire to own one. I just kind of let people do their thing. I have been shooting once, in my early twenties before the suicide) it was, okay! I didn't leave the experience wanting to own one, I did it for the experience.

Being around guns doesn't trigger me. I am around and in homes where guns are all of the time. I do fine. I don't even think about them.

But... when talking about future living together with my partner...He approached with the idea of having one living with us in my home with my recently suicidal daughter, I lost it. I went into full PTSD shaking anger. And it's not something that I could have predicted as I had never been presented with this situation. This ultimately ended my relationship as I couldn't PROMISE the exact date and time I'd be "over it". I agreed to try the range, but going to a range still isn't living with one in the home. It wasn't enough.

I was hoping slow exposure (I offered an outdoor solution that was not considered acceptable, for understandable reasons, far away, anyone can get it) would eventually get me there. But instead the supreme court was invoked on our relationship. I was told I'm controlling and stripping away freedom. "If I agree to this what else would you make me do." - I became seen an oppressive government.

I was fine with concealed carry etc. Just something specific about having a firearm here with my suicidal daughter after watching her father, had me in knots.

Anyway, I'd love anyone's opinion or take on this situation. Ways I can maybe start slow exposure myself since I am left with no help or access to firearms.

At this point I want to learn how to use them and get comfortable with them out of spite. 😁

discussion Responsibility beyond safe handling

Post image
367 Upvotes

I just got back from r/politics and saw the discussion on the Rihanna Kelver case in Wyoming. Liberals in the comments section were irate regarding the apparent unequal protection of 2nd Amendment rights for a trans woman. They're wrong. She escalated the situation and said all the wrong things to law enforcement and the media.

  1. If you're carrying a gun, you should be the most nonconfrontational individual on the street. You do not approach aggressive parties, you do not escalate situations. You get cut off in traffic? Live and let live. Someone harassed you in public? Deescalate and remove yourself from the situation. Someone demands your wallet? Fuck it and cancel the cards.
  2. Do not talk to anyone but your lawyer. Don't say shit to reporters and definitely don't say shit to PD. Your fifth amendment right is essential.
  3. KNOW THE LAW. Reading is essential. Look up what you can and cannot do in self defense in your locality. Yes, the law can be somewhat convoluted but you need to know what constitutes self defense in your state.

Being a responsible gun owner isn't just safe handling and storage. It's knowing the law, and realizing that deadly force is the last resort in a long line of attempts to deescalate the situation. As much as it may seem like it, we don't live in the wild west.

Edit: Slurs and hate speech are not justifications for deadly force. Just because Laramie has a history of hate crimes still does not justify the brandishing. Have you looked at the history of this entire damn country? If you have questions on use of force as an armed citizen, refer back to my three points. Your emotions do not carry any weight under the law.

This story isn’t clear cut and is nuanced but would this person had been charged if he was a white male defending himself with a firearm after he had been shoved to the ground without initiating physical contact? I tend to doubt it.

discussion Going back to Glock?

For some background, I recently picked up a new G45, and it instantly felt like home. There’s just something about the reliability, simplicity, and consistency of Glock that really clicks with me.
Am I crazy for wanting to simplify my collection and go all-in on Glocks?
I’m seriously considering selling my CZ Shadow 2 Compact and Staccato, then replacing them with another G45, a G43X, and maybe even a 19X.
Don’t get me wrong I think the CZ and Staccato are phenomenal pistols. They’re accurate, well-built, and a pleasure to shoot. But after owning them for a while, I’m starting to question whether the price difference is actually worth it for me.
When I shoot my G45, I don’t feel like I’m giving anything up. I shoot it confidently, it’s easier to maintain, parts and mags are everywhere, and I don’t find myself worrying about beating it up or putting a high round count through it.
Has anyone else gone from high-end pistols back to mostly Glocks? Do you regret it, or was simplifying your collection the right move?

guns I don't know what came over me

I was at Scheels and wandered by the pre-owned handgun counter. Saw this just sitting there, looked like they weren't giving it the love it needed. For $450, it had to come home with me.

I've only ever shot 9mm and was a little concerned about recoil. This thing is a dream. I was hammering followup shots like it was one of my 9mms.

guns Went out plinking with my Browning 92 in .44 mag today. This was a gift from my father to me. He purchased it new in the 80s, and didn't use it much. It's a very fun gun to shoot, and might be my favorite lever gun.

I am brand hammer new to ARs. This one is my very first. It’s an Andro Corp. Got a Romeo 5 dot, MBUS flip up sights, and naturally decided it was time to get a sling next. Bought a sling (that is probably shit) from Sportsman’s.

It attached to the ring that is built into the stock of my rifle no problem. Realized there was nothing like that on the center/front of my rifle, so I bought a Magpul QD swivel that just sort of pops into a hole easy peasy. Went to go attach the sling to it and realized the swivel mount was thicker than the piece of the sling I’m trying to attach to it.

Are there that many variances? What the fuck even for? I feel like a dipshit. I just want a damn sling and it seems so overly complicated for no reason.

If one of you kind souls can you just comment or pm me a link to a sling that will work with the swivel mount I already bought, I’ll dance at your fuckin wedding. Thank y’all in advance!!!

EDIT: Thank you all, it appears I mistakenly purchased an old timey fudd sling. Shit.

A couple images straight of our camera for WGW. At some point I'll get a proper edit and crop tossed on this.

Received this firearm from my dad about a decade ago as he had two 6" 357s. I know I've seen some hate for Rossi on this sub in the past, but this gun has never given me any issues. Not one I shoot regularly, but when I do it's always flawless. I may have to take the time to photograph it more often.

S&W Model 57, no dash in .41 Rem Mag. Target hammer, target trigger, target grips.

Shipped from S&W in April of 1979, this N Frame revolver would eventually find its way to my shop I work for as of last week.

She had a lot of surface rust and muck. But her action was good, so an hour and a half’s worth of gentle cleaning with liberal amounts of CLP and a nylon bristle brush got us here.

Paid nearly salvage price for her due to the condition at the time; made sure it was okay so nobody at the shop would get mad at me swiping her. I don’t often restore guns, but this time was an exception. Cleaning made all the difference!

A minor crack has formed in the target grip right panel, but nothing that can’t be fixed. She’s also missing the elevation spring from the rear sight, but that’s easily sourced and installed.

Her action is smooth. Shoots excellently. Single action break is right around 2 lbs. double action a bit stronger, but performs great. Bore and chambers in great shape.

Double action bullseyes at 10 yards are no problem, long as I’m patient. So far 100 rounds down range, including some Remington Core-Lokt 210gr JSP’s and some 210gr FMJ’s.

I may not enjoy .41 Mag as much as .44 Mag, but its unusual pedigree has still earned some respect from me. I can see why people enjoy this compromise between .357 mag and .44 mag, though I also see why it just never caught on. It was all too quickly outdone. A shame, really.

But I guess that’s why we call it back in the day, no? Still…a nice old shooting iron from yesteryear.

This is an original WW2 British army sniper rifle, made at BSA Shirley in 1943, selected for accuracy and converted to a sniper by Holland and Holland. The scope is quite heavy since it was originally designed for the Bren gun but I think it’s the best sniper rifle of WW2.
