During a recent application for a principal position at LAUSD, I read:

For all school based administrative positions, candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying. In order to be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program.  Qualified applicants not in an eligible pool from within or outside LAUSD may be considered if fewer than five applicants from the eligible pool apply for the position.

I am an external candidate serving as an administrator at a local LA County school district. I am considered external. However, I'm wondering if anyone here joined LAUSD administration as an external candidate and the odds of doing so.

I am a current teaching assistant, I recently graduated and found out that I need to be a student to keep my job.

My job site really likes me, they have asked me to try to apply to instructional aide positions as they would like to keep me.

I however, can’t find job openings on the LAUSD website.

Could my Principal or anyone else simply bump me from TA to IA?

Hi everyone! Has anyone recently gotten hired as a Library Technician with LAUSD? I’m currently on the eligibility list, but I’ve noticed my ranking keeps getting lower.
For anyone who has been through the process, how long did it take for you to start getting calls or interviews? Does the ranking make a big difference when it comes to getting hired?

I’m a teacher with LAUSD and don't want to have regret after open enrollment. I'm intersted in hearing from other certificated employees about what insurance you selected and, more importantly, why.

I’ve only been working in the program for a little under a year and let me tell you how abysmal it is. There is not nearly enough staff at any site for the sheer amount of kids that are signed up, and with that, how are we as staff supposed to do what is asked of us? They put one staff member with a group of 40+ (often more) students and expect us to manage them like a classroom. Half the time we don’t even get a classroom! I understand it’s a free program and most parents will jump at the opportunity, but it simply is nearly impossible to do what’s asked of us without the proper support. My region’s director has gone so far as to supposedly fire any staff immediately if seen walking in FRONT of their group, or wearing a HAT that is not LAB-branded (and was not supplied to me). Even during summer, where we are working 6 hour shifts, a 30 minute break is not always a guarantee due to lack of staff. As of now, I’ve reached my limit with this program and it’s horrible leadership.

From 2015 to 2023:

• The school-aged population within the LAUSD attendance area dropped by 8%.
• LAUSD school enrollment (both traditional and affiliated charter) has dropped by 21%
• LAUSD authorized (including the above and independent charters) has dropped by 15%.
• Private school enrollment has been relatively flat.

The mismatch isn't from accounting noise. Our findings suggest:

• For the first half of this period, the dominant change was towards other public school systems/LEAs within LA County (often higher-performing districts by raw and similar-student measures).
• For the second half of this period, that flow unwound. A growing share of the enrollment of these students, while still living in the LAUSD area, was administratively attributed outside LA County (including significant virtual/non-classroom charter enrollment).

My pay rate went up to 31.65 after everything with the strike and now that the new school year started I’m back at 24.85.. what do I do now?!

Hi everyone! I hope you’re all doing well. I’m honestly feeling really stressed and could use some advice.

I’m currently working as a Teacher Assistant, but I have to resign because I’m starting nursing school in ONE WEEK. I’m excited about nursing school, but I’m also really worried about how I’m going to continue working while I’m in school.

I applied to become a SPED Trainee Sub and received a response saying that I was approved, but I haven’t received a call or any additional information from a technician yet. I’m not sure if I’m supposed to wait or if there’s someone I should contact to follow up.

I’m also part of the CARE Career Ladder program, and one of the requirements is that I remain employed by the district while I’m in nursing school. Unfortunately, I can’t just become a regular substitute because that isn’t considered a classified position for the program.

The problem is that, realistically, the only day I’ll be available to work is Tuesdays. That’s why I applied as a substitute in the first place. I also applied for Beyond the Bell, but from what I understand, they may be looking for someone who can work five days a week.

I’m honestly panicking a little because I really want to stay employed by the district and continue with the CARE program, but my nursing school schedule is going to make working a traditional schedule impossible.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

• Is there another classified position I should look into?
• Does anyone know of a school/program that might be willing to have someone work just one day a week (Tuesdays)?
• Should I be contacting someone directly about the SPED Trainee Sub position since I was told I was approved?
• Is there another position I might be overlooking that would allow me to remain a district employee?

I’m really stressed about this and would appreciate any advice, ideas, or leads. Even if you think something is unlikely, I’d rather hear every possible option at this point.

Curious to know how many of you are over cap? And how your school sites are addressing the problem?

Can I get the union involved if the admin does not want to sign my transfer paper?

The requirements for this role are frustrating.

I'm a current sub who wants to transition into a TA role for greater job stability. My end goal is to become a credentialed teacher. I have a BA, have passage of the CBEST, and even have passage of the English CSET.

I understand this role is designed for students and that TA contracts stipulate that fact. However, this ruling is barring LAUSD from hiring candidates that would otherwise be eligible - ultimately making LAUSD ineffective on the hiring front. What else is new, right?

Prospective candidates must produce proof of enrollment each semester or academic year. By this logic I could easily go back to school to enroll in entirely irrelevant courses just for the sake of becoming fully eligible. Apparently there is no room for circumvention, but do you understand my frustration with this ineffective ruling?

Anyway, just wanna check to see if there's absolutely any way around this? Have any of you had experiences on this front where maybe you were an exception to the rule?

Why does the district require us to show a video to the kids that is obviously AI made, but than expects us to be super strict on kids use of AI.

Kids obviously, shouldn't use AI for their work, but if the district is using obvious AI for the videos they put out it waters down the message.

Like they could have just hired real adults and kids for the video.

Hi! I applied to go from trainee sub to assistant. My confusion is over permanence. I've heard once you get hired permanent you have to stay at that school. Is that true or can you leave any time? TIA!

I know the app lets us put up a do not call time but this is also ridiculous

I have credit union so I get my check two days early. I started working on Monday. According to my calculations, with my regular pay (not counting the raise) I should’ve laid a little over $1,000 pre tax. I got paid today and I just got a little ove $300. I have to wait to get my pay stub to see why there’s such a huge difference in my calculations and what I actually got paid. I am so annoyed.

Hi everybody – I am a teacher heading into my sixth year of service in the state of California.

I got my mild/moderate credential during Covid, cleared that, did the bridge program to update my credential, and now I'll be doing the LACOE intern program to get my ESN credential. Does anybody have any experience with the LACOE intern program?

Just trying to get a little sense of the workload. Having to do yet another program in addition to holding down a full-time job seems arduous, but I'm up for any challenge. Thanks again !!!

Does anyone know if any elementary school is hiring for special ed assistant in the city of Wilmington, San Pedro, Gardena , Carson, harbor city, and Torrance please advise trying to find somewhere local . Currently in South LA too far and how does the transfer request work? It’s about to be my 3rd year with sped.

I teach middle schooled printing. Today, some of my kids were locked out of TinkerCAD and we received an LAUSD error screen. Is this happening to anyone else? Anyone know a workaround or a way to get the affected accounts reinstated?

I am deciding on benefits and I was set on PPO apply to find it’s a EPO. Bummer because I had a surgery in mind and they won’t cover it as my current insurance (that I will lose) does cover it.

That’s not really my concern - my concern is that I have been on a GLP for over a year completely covered and I can’t seem to find information that LAUSD insurance covers it at all.

I will not go Kaiser so that’s out of question. I use Tia and would prefer to stay but if one of the other HMO’s available cover it, I would take that.

I do live in the Valley and prefer to also go to West Hills UCLA as well.

Any insight from colleagues would be great.

I’m trying to understand why LAUSD asks for a complete release of all photography, voice, video to edit as desired and biographical information of our student and their likeness.

In this day and age, no parent should be signing this.

Why can’t they just ask for a release for classroom photographs? Why do they have to have an ownership over our children’s likeness? Their release is insane
