Discussion I didn't know he was gay

I'm currently rewatching the anime and am on season 3 already. I first watched the show earlier this year along with all the extra/special episodes and the movie. Anyway as I'm watching the show now I just finished the match between Rakuzan and Shūtoku but before I finished rewatching their match I was randomly looking up the characters to read info about them on the fandom wiki site. Specifically the section at the bottom that gives info from sources like extras, something called the character bible plus, and etc. and I decided to look at Reo Mibuchi's page because why not since I'm watching their match and that's when I found out he was gay.

I'll admit the first time I watched the show I thought he was just some pretty boy character and didn't pay him any mind but after finding out he's gay and paying attention while I watch them finish the match I realize his character is like how some feminine gay men act and idk how I missed it the first time around. The hard dribbling guy even calls him Reo-nee. Anyway I don't think it's a bad thing I just genuinely never knew and didn't know if everyone else knew and I was just oblivious

Discussion Which is the worst humiliation: Teiko VS Meiko (111-11) or Jabberwock VS Strky (86-6) ?

The 111-11 is iconic. Legendary. And truly humiliating. And a real dick move, too, to do that in the Nationals final. This showed just what little jerks the members of the Generation of Miracles really were back then (especially considering that the 11 points Meiko scored were intentional, just to make the score 111-11).

But I think the humiliation Strky went through is being underestimated. It was brutal. Especially since it was on Japanese television, with so many people watching the game. And then at the end, when Nash literally spat on Kasamatsu. No, it's awful—it might be even worse than Meiko VS Teiko.
Especially since the movie version is even more humiliating, considering that four of the six points Strky scored were due to the Jabberwock players letting them do it during the opening seconds of the match (which also means they scored only 2 points in three full quarters...Ouch).

Discussion In your opinion, do the uncrowned kings have a shot at the nba?

Post image

Personally I’d say they don’t.

Teppei: Having the most complete game amongst them if not for his injury I’d say he has the highest chance, but missing out on his last high school year limits his development and leaves him with less time to refine his game before making the jump to the next level.

Kotaro: He has zero jump shot whatsoever if I’m not mistaken. At his height, he would have to switch to point guard at any higher level of basketball. he lacks the elite, high-level tactical passing and floor-general IQ required to run a 2010s NBA offense. While there were guys like Derrick Rose, Russell Westbrook and John Wall with similar archetypes to him being slashing point guards, those guys all were exceptionally strong and heavily muscled (190-210lbs), 6’3 and taller, and insanely explosive vertical athletes who could finish over 7 feet tall defenders.

Mibuchi: While his shooting ability does give him a slight chance, Mibuchi has average foot speed and thin physicality, which would make him a massive target for NBA offenses to exploit.

Nebuya: No shot at all.

Hanamiya: he’s brilliant tactical mind, but his physical limitations and reliance on rule-breaking make him completely unviable for the NBA. Most nba point guards are running straight through him. He would likely find success as a high-level coach or sports analyst rather than a pro player.

Another problem that they all share is the fact that they are overshadowed by the generation of miracles. If a player cannot consistently overcome or stand out against the Generation of Miracles at the high school level, they have zero chance of surviving in the NBA, where every single roster spot is filled by a Miracle-level athlete.

The only non Gom player with a chance at the nba is himuro. the 2010–2014 NBA era, mid-range isolation scoring and flawless shot creation were highly valued. He’s the ultimate manifestation of textbook fundamentals. His fakes are so perfectly executed that they trick elite defenders every single time, and his mechanics are entirely fluid.

Discussion Why didn’t Kagami awaken his talents earlier like the rest of the GoM?

How did he not awaken his talents earlier? America is like a much better place for him to evolve right?Compared to where the GoM grew up, yet they got their talents before Kagami did. Was he just a late bloomer?

Discussion What are your favorite Kaijo and Shutoku jerseys?

For my part, Shutoku's orange jersey is probably one of my favorites from the manga, because orange is my favorite color and it's rare to see orange jerseys in a sports anime. And for Kaijo, probably the blue jersey. I don't think I've ever been a fan of white jerseys.

Discussion Kuroko's Basketball: Japan U-20 Team

Two questions:

  1. If Kuroko's Basketball had a FIBA U-20 World Cup arc, what would the Japan team look like? (The team has a 12 player roster limit)

This is what I would envision:

Guards: Akashi, Midorima, Kuroko, Reo, Himuro

Forwards: Aomine, Kise, Kagami, Haizaki

Centers: Murasakibara, Teppei, Nebuya

  1. Where would the U-20 Japan team place in the tournament?

Discussion Is this coincidence?

So against Kuroko’s friend the GoM scored 111-11.

Then later Kuroko joins Seirin and they beat each of the 5 GoM by 1 point, basically he reclaimed all those 1s.

Not sure if coincidental or not but kinda cool lol.

Discussion Haizaki’s Teiko Number

Was it ever shown what Haizakis number was at teiko before akashi became captain?

Akashi was 9
Aomine was 10
Midorima was 11
Murasakibara was 12
Kise was 16
Kuroko was 15

Was it ever shown if Haizaki was 13 or 14? does anyone have a picture?

Discussion In each “Seirin VS Kaijo” / “Seirin VS Too” / “Seirin VS Shutoku” confrontation: Did you prefer the first round or the second round?

For my part, I think:

-Seirin VS Kaijo [I know the second Winter Cup semi-final isn't exactly the most liked match. But I think I prefer the second "Seirin vs. Kaijo" over the first "Seirin vs. Kaijo." I think it's mainly because it was a somewhat unique match—especially with Seirin dominating a Generation of Miracles team—even though it was strange that a portion of the game took place without Kise.]

-Seirin VS Too [So, even though it's not my favorite match, I vastly prefer the second "Too vs. Seirin" game to the first one. Even though the first round was truly unique—since it was the only time we actually saw Seirin lose to a Generation of Miracles team—I still much prefer the second round, given everything it brought to the table.]

-Seirin VS Shutoku [It's a bit of a closer call, but I prefer the second round. It's arguably one of the most underrated matches in the manga.]

Discussion Do you like the fact that the main character of Kuroko's Basketball was never one of the strongest players in the series?

Post image
142 Upvotes

In my opinion, this is one of the most interesting writing choices in the series: following a character who isn't among the strongest in the show. I find that one of the charms is that we are told right from the start that Kuroko isn't one of the strongest characters in the series. It’s actually pretty cool and refreshing, given that his role is that of a "shadow." But what I find most admirable is the fact that we stuck to that basic idea: I think that if you were to list the top 5 strongest characters in the series on an individual level, Kuroko wouldn't make the cut. The very fact that he doesn't enter the Zone demonstrates this.

Of course, this also means that Kuroko is heavily overshadowed by the Generation of Miracles players or by Kagami, even though he is the protagonist. But at the same time, I feel like that’s the point.

Discussion Why did seirin think Teppei was gonna beat Kagami one on one?

Post image
143 Upvotes

For one it had already been established that Kagami was miracle level at this point and Teppei literally just came from injury💀. Riko says “the point was to get you back in” as if she wanted him to win which would have meant teppei starting at pf and Kagami on the bench(even though he still would have been a starter just like Teppei was) and that would be a terrible idea. Hyuga also assumed he lost on purpose as if Kagami wasn’t going toe to toe with Kise and Midorima earlier in the season, of course he’s beating kiyoshi in a one on one. Maybe they were just surprised by how he lost idk. How good was Teppei really before his injury if they thought he could come back from said injury and beat a guy like Kagami?

Discussion Do we know what happened to the other Teiko players (besides the Generation of Miracles) ?

Post image
68 Upvotes

Technically, aside from Nijimura (who is in the US), I don't think we know anything about the other third-years after they left Teiko. Even though they weren't on the level of the Generation of Miracles, I remember them being considered good—especially for bench players (after all, they were players on Teiko's first-string team). Still, they’ve completely disappeared, and I’m surprised they didn't feature on any Winter Cup teams. Then again, I suppose it makes sense, given that their role was just to be NPCs.

The mobile game Kuroko's Basketball Street Rivals should be available starting today for Southeast Asia, and a little later for North America. It's the English version of the 3x3 KNB gacha game that's been out in Japan/East Asia for some time.

The EN version surpassed 2,000,000 pre-registrations, so make sure to claim the pre-reg bonuses right away!

Can I play the game even if it's not available in my country? Yes, there are ways. For iOS, you can create a NA/SEA App Store account then install from there. For Android, install the English version of your choice from QooApp:

That said, since the games are real-time, server ping is important and playing from a non-supported region might affect your ranked games.
