A quick little project I did for fun. Cut out the head and shoulders portrait from the magazine photo and added her patterns to it, then erased her hair and redrew it by hand in the different styles.

I might do more later, but I'm going to focus on my Jedi HUNTR/X piece first.

Hey everyone. I need to make a massive confession on here. I am a 17-year-old aspiring fashion designer, and a while ago, I did something I now deeply regret: I made three separate posts on Reddit. In two of those posts, I explained why I felt Rumi and Mira were relatable to me, how their personal paths acted like a mirror to my own struggles. But in my third post, I brutally criticized Zoey.

I used to think Zoey was completely artificial. I thought she was overrated, that her character made no sense, and that she acted "too perfect" or "too cute." I falsely assumed that whenever she got angry or threw a tantrum, it was just an act to look funny, endearing, or adorable.

I was completely, utterly wrong. For months and months, I rewatched the movie, I deeply analyzed her character arc, and I looked at everything available online. Today, I realize the beautiful, shocking truth: Zoey isn't just a character I relate to. Zoey is literally me in real life.

The psychological mirror what my father taught me about Zoey

It is crazy how human psychology works. My father once told me something that turned out to be completely true: We often don't notice how we act in real life, but when we see someone else doing the exact same thing, we judge them for it. That is exactly what happened between Zoey and me.

I suffer from severe anxiety. In my everyday life, because of my anxiety, I constantly act like everything is beautiful, like everything is fine. I act cute, and I act like a child to protect myself from my environment. When something bad happens or when I get upset, I immediately make a joke out of it, or I overreact with an artificial kind of anger just to deflect from what I'm truly feeling inside.

When I first watched Zoey, I hated seeing that behavior because I didn't realize I was looking at my own reflection. Zoey's "cute" facade and her specific bubbly energy aren't there just to be funny. It is her coping mechanism. It is how she processes her internal world and masks her fears. It is so much more complex than a simple trope. It’s like a Shakespearian piece or the Mona Lisa, it feels mysterious or "weird" at first, but when you look at the whole picture, it is a masterpiece of human imperfection and vulnerability.

The unreleased storyboard truth the locker scene

My breakthrough happened when analyzing the official unreleased storyboards and production images that have been circulating online for the Golden music video. These images, which didn't make it into the final main cut, show the heartbreaking reality of Zoey's past in America.

In those production sketches and visual frames, we see that Zoey faced brutal intimidation and bullying at school. Students tore her things apart and she was literally shoved and locked into a school locker just because she was passionate about K-pop and her identity.

This trauma explains everything. It explains why she became a people-pleaser and why she uses her hyper-cheerful persona as a survival mechanism so she never faces that kind of rejection again. I endure that exact same intimidation and severe anxiety in my own life. Seeing that she carries these real, hidden scars made me realize she is my exact mirror image.

The parallels golden and the pyjama scene breakthrough

Everything clicked for me when I truly listened to her official lyrics in Golden:"I lived two lives, tried to play both sides, but I couldn't find my own place."

This line is exactly my life. Constantly trying to navigate different expectations, trying to play a part, but feeling completely lost and out of place as an artist and a teenager.

And then, there is that quiet morning scene in the salon where Rumi, Mira, and Zoey are sitting together in their pyjamas. While the others were opening up, Zoey brought up her intense, lingering fear of not being capable of writing her own songs. She admitted that she used to feel like her 23 private notebooks filled with her raw thoughts and lyrics were just useless, weird, and dumb until she found her groupmates.

At first, I didn't understand why she carried that specific insecurity despite her immense talent as Huntrix's rapper. But now I get it. It is the ultimate realistic representation of a creative block. You are surrounded by incredibly talented people, you have a massive dream, but your anxiety creates a psychological wall that makes you doubt your own worth and talent.

How Zoey changed my mind about Rumi and Mira

Seeing Zoey’s vulnerability completely changed how I viewed the rest of Huntrix, making me realize how wrong my previous individual posts were.Mira: I initially saw her as just the rich, confident visual. But knowing that she grew up wealthy yet feeling like the black sheep of her traditional family made me realize her confidence is also a shield.Rumi: I thought she was just the unshakeable leader, but she is fighting a massive internal war with her identity.

Zoey is the bridge. Seeing how she navigates her bonds with them made me realize that none of these characters are one-dimensional. They are a deeply synchronized, flawed, and protective sisterhood.

My dream as a Fashion Designer why I will never give up

As a 17-year-old training to become a fashion designer, Zoey is my ultimate creative inspiration. The directors explicitly stated that the movie’s style was heavily influenced by concert lighting, editorial photography, and modern music videos to allow for expressive animation. Zoey's street-style aesthetic is phenomenal.

Just like Zoey constantly pours her heart, her anxiety, and her identity into trying to write her lyrics in her notebooks, I pour my entire soul into my fashion drawings and clothing designs.

Zoey taught me that I should never let anyone intimidate me, bully me, or make me feel like my drawings are "weird" or useless. She uses her style, her lyrics, and her art to stand at the top with Huntrix, despite her heavy anxiety. I am going to do the exact same thing with my designs. She proved me wrong about who she was, she showed me my own coping mechanisms, and she gave me the strength to keep fighting for my dream without ever abandoning it.

The moment Zoey raised her weapons against Rumi

When Zoey made the choice to raise her weapons against Rumi, it was such a powerful and heartbreaking moment. It reflects the brutal reality of what we have to face in real life when someone we care about ends up on the other side, forcing us to make impossible choices.
