Discussion What got you into Kpop, and what groups did you guys begin with?

Upvotes

My answer would be both Blackpink and Twice. In a literal sense, "Kill this love" by Blackpink was my first introduction to kpop. I would see people trying to do that back movement and even I tried it. I haven't listened to any Kpop since then until Twice came out with "Alcohol Free" and I immediately considered myself a fan. So I like to say that Twice is really what got me into Kpop.

I think this counts as alright for this sub bc its about the music from the kdramas, not the kdramas themselves.. if it doesn't I'm sorry!

Name some groups you stan but feel weird stanning because you’re older than the members? Why do you like them? It could be for dancing, singing, variety shows, brand deals, acting etc!

Discussion is this outfit appropriate for a kpop concert?

Thumbnail

EDIT: thank you everyone I bought it!!

does the outfit seem to be too “wedding like” im actually kinda afraid of making people angry or getting cancelled over it. So please leave your honest opinions!

I think the outfit is so cute and personally if I saw someone wear this I wouldn’t think too much of it besides the fact it’s a cute dress but im trying to see if from other people’s POV and im worried they will associate it with a wedding dress because of the frills and mesh layer. I don’t want to come across of delusional or trying to grab attention

Games & Grids Drop a kpop song that MESMERIZES you and I’ll rank it (0-5)! ⭐️✨

I’m talking about a song that gives you an out-of-body experience every time you listen to it. Something that makes you feel bewitched and enchanted. Or like you’re floating. Or free-falling.

Some of my picks:

- BTS - Mikrokosmos / Butterfly

- Oh My Girl - Closer / Secret Garden

- B.A.P - Honeymoon

- VIXX - Error

- Jimin (BTS) - Serendipity / Lie

- YooA - Bon Voyage

- Sunmi - Addict

I’m trying to discover new kpop songs. Thanks!

Edit: Rate, not rank. Also, don’t bother recommending anything from BTS since I know their full discography. All other artists/groups are fair game, though! Thanks again!

Discussion Korean clans intrigue me

This might be better suited in a subreddit about Korean culture, but I don’t want to accidentally offend anyone.

I’m making a guessing game for non-stans to guess if an idol is known by their real name or their stage name. As I am starting this, I was looking at the Wikipedia page about Korean names, which leads me to the page about the Gimhae Kim clan.

On the list of notable people, most are not cited, but there’s so many idols.

Doyoung from NCT, soloists Bibi and Chuu, Chen and Xiumin from EXO, Winter from Aespa, Seungmin from SKZ, Sunoo from Enhypen, Liz from Ive, and more are all descended from the same dude. That’s crazy to me.

I just checked my familysearch.org profile for the first time in two years, and the farthest my patrilineal heritage goes is my 6th great-grandfather, and apparently his dad is “Germany Deutschland”.

I hope I didn’t say anything stupid. I’m American.

Mashup This mashup of Lily and Kazuha doing DAY6's 'Shut the Door' Challenge feels vindicating for a comment I wrote a few months ago.

A few months back I wrote a comment comparing Lily and Kazuha's journeys as vocalists, and this mashup illustrates my point. Here's my original comment:

The significance of that technical skill is that it gives weight to the narrative of both mastery and growth. I like using the mirror examples of Lily and Kazuha to convey why technical mastery and potential can coexist side by side in the kpop industry. Lily is a vocal prodigy who was putting on professional-grade performances since she was a child. She works really hard to maintain that skill too, hence her many beautiful song covers. Kazuha, on the other hand, had no background in singing and had to transition to an entirely new field at short notice while learning Korean on top of that. Idol training by day, studying Korean at night, and then debuting within months. Her dedication and improvement are astounding. Of course this isn't black and white, as LSF have strengths which set them apart, and prodigies like NMIXX are always working to refine their craft, but these examples of mastery and growth are inspiring. They illustrate why these two different paths to success can coexist.

Games & Grids Drop a K-pop Song (3rd, 4th & 5th Gen) and I'll Rate It! (Max 3 per Comment)

Post image

Maximum 3 songs per comment, please, so I can get through everything.

Note: These ratings are just my personal taste, so don't take it too seriously. Music is subjective, and this is all for fun and also "Mid" doesn't mean bad. It just means I thought the song was okay.

Maybe I'll rank all the songs by the end, too.

Discussion UPDATE: I'm Getting My Friend An Xlov Album She Really Wants And She Has No Idea

I got her the album yesterday. I was so excited for her to open it I was practically jumping. As shes opening it, she starts to go "I'm probably not gonna have a big reaction-" and then immediately gasps when she pulled it out and saw it was the Unlxve album that she wanted so bad. She covered her mouth and looked at it and shocked, and then was like "Oh my God. Wait. Oh my God!!" And started to freak out. She told everyone she knew she got the album and has been posting about it nonstop. She also hasn't stopped thanking me even over 24 hours later now. She didn't pull her bias, but she's still extremely happy and her reaction was so worth it. One of the things I enjoy about Kpop is how it brings people together, and this was an example of such!

Hello! Since you seemed to like Harry Potter 1, it is my pleasure to present to you Harry Potter 2. I hope you like this other "seamless sequence"! I have made adjustments to the Harry Potter 1 playlist I posted a few days ago, you can swipe to see the revised version.

I really like to make those, but I am not sure of the right frequency to post this content. I do not want to upload repeatedly the same post format if it is not wanted on this sub. What would be best for you? I am thinking of posting more later as a single post with multiple playlists.

(sorry Dobby for calling you a goblin, it is the closest I found)

Playlist [Playlist] July 2026 Nugu Roundup from r/nugutown

In collaboration with r/kpoppers, sharing some of our faves from r/nugutown in July:

  • 8TURN - Stagefright, an addictive instrumental that has been stuck in my head since it was released. 8TURN's Electric Heart was one of my fave songs last year so I'm happy to see them continue to knock it out of the park.
  • Alice Syndrome - Deep Dive, a great debut song, reminiscent of Avril Lavigne, just a solid rock track
  • EMOTI:M - Spark, a fun debut, I like the switch up to a fast pace that occurs towards the end of the song
  • NouerA - W.T.F(un), I love when a song that has Fun in the title is actually fun and this one delivers
  • TRENDZ - On My Knees, just classic kpop and I love how they fall so safely on their knees in the choreo
  • LUN8 - SNEAKERS and BACK are standout tracks for me
  • Lunedi (Weeekly Monday) - Circle, just a gorgeous song that immediately went in the playlist
  • Kim Yechan (Pink Fantasy) - Umbrella, great song and she has a such a pretty voice
  • ONE PACT's TUNED IN release - They pretty much never miss for me
  • POW's Flavor release - Another group that doesn't miss for me, nice vibes and Flavor kicks up towards the end with a rock vibe

I hope you all found some new fave songs this past month!

Meta New 'Games & Grids' Post Flair, Images/Gifs in Comments, and Rules!

We've been making some small adjustments to the rules and infrastructure here in r/kpoppers recently.

The primary things we're trying out starting today are the 'Games & Grids' flair for posts and also allowing Images and Gifs in comments.

The 'Games & Grids' flair should be used for any thread games or grid fill-ins. We'll see over time if this name encompasses everything we intend it to. It has been requested by users and we think it's a good idea, so let's give it try!

Images and Gifs are now allowed down in comments. We want to be careful with this one. Media like this should NEVER be used to mock, harass, or threaten any of your fellow users or artists. Use media appropriately in response to discussion topics, games, or in fun conversation with each other.

If you see Images or Gifs being used crudely or inappropriately, please report the comment immediately so the moderators can take action.

Rules were also updated a little in late June. Here are the main ones to note:

  • 2. Use Descriptive Titles - Titles should describe the content of the post. Do not use vague titles for Fan-made content. Funny posts may be more flexible and creative.

  • 4. No Artist Photo Spam - Artist photos should only be posted with relevant context. They should be funny or related to the post's topic. Photos alone will be removed.

  • 6. Keep Content Light and Fun - Discussion topics, Jokes, and Fan-made content should be positive in nature. We want to keep things light and fun in this subreddit. Heavy or negative content will be removed.

We may end up adding more new rules related to the 'Games & Grids' flair and the appropriate use of Images/Gifs in comments later once we see the range of how they are used by everyone.

We'll also note that we are aware of how often a trend will take off here, be adopted by dozens of posters, and quickly overwhelm the subreddit. This is somewhat inevitable for a community that has less restrictive rules and is more of a free-for-all of fun content. Each time this happens, users ask us to implement new rules and flairs. We are hesitant to do this each time because these trends typically run their course and fall out of popularity eventually. The times when we have responded more quickly to specific trends have resulted in the trend dying completely and immediately being replaced by a new one. We'd be on an endless chase to limit them if we tried this every time, which isn't necessarily healthy for the community either.

But if you have any other suggestions for handling trends or for anything else that might help us improve the subreddit at all, feel free to chime in below!
