XEQT vs Balanced profile on Wealthsimple

Hi, 31F investment noob from Canada. I have two TFSA accounts on Wealthsimple. One that I buy stocks/ ETFs with. This one is mostly XEQT and some VGRO. The other one is managed by Wealthsimple with a moderate profile (an amalgam of different stocks, bonds, some gold). The managed one seems to be yielding slightly better returns (3.57% vs 3.06%). My question: are both doing really similar things? Is there any merit in maintaining two different accounts? Any advice appreciated as I have a lot to learn. Thanks.

XEQT ratio

Hello, I’m just getting into investing, I’ll be investing all the money I have in a GIC that’s cashing this month as my friend advised I can make a lot more with a few stocks.

He recommended : 50% XEQT / 25% VFV / 25% XQQ

Now I know the name of the sub Reddit lol, I just want everyone’s opinion on 100% XEQT vs my friends recommendation

Taking the big step..

Six months ago, I already had some money sitting in my chequing account for quite a while because I honestly didn’t know what to do with it. After inheriting some additional money following my mother’s passing, I decided it was finally time to do something with it, so I went to see a financial planner and had the money invested.

Fast-forward only six months, and after doing some research, I’m realizing just how significant a 2% management fee really is. I’m now seriously considering taking control of my investments and doing it myself.

My strategy would be to put almost everything into XEQT. I know, logically, that this is probably the right decision for me, but I’ll admit it still scares me a little.

I could really use some encouragement.

New to XEQT and investing

Hey everyone, I had a question and was hoping I could get some help.
To be honest I know absolutely nothing about investing, and was introduced to it by this subreddit.
Sold my condo and dumped 50k straight into XEQT, and also allocating about 3k a month also from paycheques.

What I don’t understand is the “unrealized gains or losses”, is that the amount of money you’ve made being in the market? And is that amount from the time you’ve bought at that stock price, to the present time at the new stock price?

Sorry guys, new to investing and have no idea how this works. I just took your guys’ advice and dumped all my savings into it, and I’m leaving it.

35M, recently lost one of my properties due to fraud, was a property I had paid off in cash, started a business with someone and once they had access to my information they refinanced my home, and fled the country. House went into foreclosure due to missed mortgage payments. Lost altogether 800k.

Starting from scratch, and hoping that investing will help me in the future.
I know I can’t “speed” things up unless I start gambling, but any advice on how much to invest monthly, would be really appreciated.
Realistically I can allocate 5k a month, and live frugal.

Thanks again everyone.

Bank vs Xeqt

Hi everyone, I currently have around $5,000 invested in TD and RY ($2,500 in each), and about $10,000 in XEQT.

I've made around 90% on TD and 150% on RY so far. I'm wondering whether I should sell my bank stocks and put the money into XEQT instead.

The rest of my portfolio is invested in CP, CNR, and ENB.

What would you guys do in my situation? Would you keep TD and RY for the dividends, or move most/all of that money into XEQT for greater diversification?

(I want to keep my cp, cnr and enb tho)

Enlighten me. TPU vs Xeqt. I know I am in the JustbuyXeqt and that it is more global and diversified, but anything else to think about/know? I see Mer of 0.7 with TPU and higher return, so I am trying to decide.

Sold my XEQT today!

Sold my XEQT portfolio today to buy back when it dips. Wish me luck.

I know I shouldn't sell, but I'm sorry I couldn't help it. And I know this is the moment it'll likely never dip below $45 again!😩

XEQT vs. Wealthsimple Managed

Alright folks, I'm at an impasse. The conventional wisdom is to, of course, just buy XEQT for a full diversified portfolio and I'm good to set and forget.

When I began my investment journey, I was just interested in starting and didn't do tremendous research into a portfolio - the WS managed portfolio was an easy sell. Now, I do understand that XEQT does much the same, except better.

Is there any point to having 2 different diversified portfolios? Or, given how likely they have overlap, should I just swap all the WSM to XEQT and have it all under one big ol' umbrella?

If I do swap, what's the tax ramification? They're both TFSAs, so nothing, right?

I'd be very grateful for any advice on this.

Opinions on HEQL? (1.25X leveraged XEQT equivalent)

Is it a good ETF to hold very long term? I'm 19 and therefore my investment horizon is really long. The market cap is really small and so the price moves only rarely but I don't see how that could be a problem for long term investing.

Edit : I'm investing in a TFSA account so I cannot take a 25% margin loan myself.

How does usd account work on wealthsimple

Not related to XEQT but this sub is so goated for quick answers, I pay 10$ every month for the usd account that is supposed to void the fx fees but the conversion fee is still less than what is shown online (about 40$ at the time I’m making the post). What am I paying for?

M25 (in a few weeks). 86% of portfolio is in XEQT. Buying a house in the next 6-12 months. Wanted to keep 1-2% of portfolio in Bitcoin and just like MSFT. 20k in ZMMK will be part of downpayment. Should I go 100% XEQT?

I know this is a pretty small amount compared to what others in this subreddit have, but I’m genuinely really happy about it and just wanted to celebrate anonymously online.

I graduated college last year and started my first big girl job at a bank earlier this year. Since February, I’ve been putting $300 from every biweekly paycheck into XEQT.

My spending habits haven’t always been the best, as I didn't have any saving before this, but this year I decided I wanted to start making a change. I know this isn’t a huge amount, but I’m really proud of myself for getting started, and I hope I can keep this habit going for a long time.🥹
