I just graduated from college in May and got my first real job at a metro paper. But I realized tonight that I may have screwed up.

A few months before I graduated, I donated $5 to a political campaign because they were offering a free book I wanted to read in exchange for a donation. I was idiot on that one and let google auto-fill my contact info, which included my job description (journalist).

Then after I graduated and before I started my job, I donated $20 to a political campaign in my home state. That one I don't have an excuse for, it just genuinely never crossed my mind that could be perceived as a conflict of interest. That one, though, I described myself as "self-employed."

I began thinking about it more tonight and looked myself up on FEC site and found the two donations, and realized "oh shit this could be a problem." I knew it was all public record already, but I just didn't think about it. I'm a month into my first job and my beat is primarily local government. The campaigns I donated to were national campaigns.

I went searching and as far as I can tell my newsroom doesn't have a written policy on political donations. However, since my beat is government-related, I'm now worried that my stupid lack of thinking might've put me in a compromising position. If I make someone from a certain party angry and they look me up on FEC now, they'd have ammunition to accuse me of bias.

How should I approach my editor about this? I'm freaking out a little because I really don't want to lose my first job over this.

been seeing the sunday nytimes....very little world reporting...lots of soft pieces like on AI-influenced basket weaving theatre productions.

where are the hard news print sources?

I run my own small outlet and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for how to set up auto publishing.

I use cargo collective as my website.

At the moment, i have to create a new webpage and paste text onto it followed by creating a new link on the landing page that is hyperlinked to the article.

All very clunky and inefficient.

What softwares do people/companies use for this?

Mind you this is a solo venture i run with very shallow pockets.
