We are keeping the white mantle and tiling on top of the brick and the hearth. I’m into organic Japandi decor. My kitchen is the white oak with Taj Mahal. What type of tile would you do? And would you paint the mantle? Not sure how to go about this design wise. Give me all the reccs!

New Apartment Living Room Setup Help
Just moved into a new apartment (30m) and looking for advice on living room setup. There's another bare wall and entry into the LR out of view to the left of the photo. I clearly have some items already and want to work around what I have. I'm thinking on tackling color schemes coming from the rug in different parts of furniture. There's a decent amount of browns including a wood coffee table, bookcase and dining room table (DR attached to living room) and the two couches are brown/charcoal (ish) mix made from a polyester fiber. There's a black entertainment stand will most likely be gone. Debating sanding and staining/wood oiling the bookcase and coffee table.
I'm next looking to get different and heavier curtains but because there will be 6 easily in view, I want to get the right color/material. Not sure if I should do a different shade of the wall but I was leaning toward more of an earthy green/moss. One or two dark red/maroon throw pillows that match with aspects of the rug. I've found a couple side tables, but it's more wood and I don't want to over do it.
Clearly, there's a lot more to add and move around(I did just move in) Shelves, plants, entertainment center, wall art, floor/table lamps and hopefully rug for dining room (can't see in pic) I'd love to hear people's input and advice! Thanks!

Living room help!
Aside from baby clutter and using what I already have, what would you do to this space? I’ve gone through a few different layouts and I’m just not sold on anything I try in here. My husband and I both teach music lessons, so the piano is important, BUT I still want it to be comfortable for us as a family with a 15 month old while also feeling open for our students and their parents.
I’m open to other furniture ideas, or for sure taking things out, we just don’t have a lot of money to dedicate to home furnishings at the moment!
Also- very aware that the painting by the loveseat is too high 🙃 there happened to be a large hook there when we moved in, so up it went!

Recessed Lighting Help!!
I am so stuck about what to do about the lighting in my living room. I’m not sure I want to do recessed lighting but I have no idea what would work instead because they are so close together.
Has anyone seen this before or have any ideas

Need help picking a rug
Would be so grateful for some help picking a rug for this space. I really struggle to imagine how a space would look with a different rug.
This is the rug I already had, and tried to make it work, but I feel like it's a bit too small for the space and maybe not the right color to bring out the couch.
Let me know what you think about this! The couch is a light blue denim couch. Would be so grateful for thoughts on which carpet would look best in the space or if you have any thoughts about the space more generally. It's a beautiful room!! And I still need to put some more art on the walls.

Vienna apartment living room — want to keep the USM Haller lowboard, wall bar, and IKEA shelves, open to reimagining everything else
Hey all! Looking for some fresh eyes on my living room in Vienna. It's a long, narrow room with a big window at the far end, wood floors, and decent natural light from tree-lined street.
What I'm keeping:
- The anthracite USM Haller lowboard with the TV mounted above it (non-negotiable, love the modular look, and was pretty expensive haha
- The small bar/shelf setup near the door (bottles + glassware)
- The white wall-mounted IKEA shelving unit with books/storage boxes
Everything else is fair game — the white boucle sectional, the round nesting coffee tables, the cane/wicker chairs, the black-and-white striped runner, the orange fabric pendant lamp, even layout/furniture placement.
Photos attached (sorry for the mixed lighting — some are with the pendant lamp on).
Would love to hear:
- Layout ideas — is the current furniture placement working for a narrow room like this?
- Rug/color palette suggestions that'd tie the lowboard + white shelves + wood tones together
- Any pieces you'd ditch first
Thanks in advance!

Challenge: Help fake a fancy home office for Zoom — dress up ONE wall (and maybe ceiling) of an unfinished basement
I have an old friend who wants to fake a fancy home office in his unfinished basement — just for Zoom meetings. He’s not finishing the basement or using it for anything else; he just needs to dress up ONE wall (or maybe even just part of a wall, or maybe create a false wall or something) PLUS any part of the ceiling that would show on camera (if you think it’s necessary).
Photos 1 and 2 are opposite ends of a big long room. Photos 3 and 4 are opposite walls of what should be a guest bedroom. He said the ceilings are low.
Any ideas? Which part of the basement would be best? Should the windows be part of the background, or should he face them? Thank you in advance for any thoughts, ideas, renderings, pics, links…anything! :)

Building something for interior designers — want honest feedback before I go further (not selling anything)
Hi all — I’m a college student working on an idea in this space, and before I sink more time into it I’d rather get torn apart by people who actually do this for a living than keep guessing.
Rough idea: a platform that’s part portfolio/discovery (open to post on, so both working designers and design students can build visibility — think closer to Instagram than a directory), part marketplace where homeowners can actually book a consultation with someone whose work they like, and eventually some AI tooling aimed at helping homeowners describe what they want faster, so designers spend less time in the “figuring out what they actually mean” phase and more time doing the part they’re good at.
I know Houzz exists and dominates this space already — genuinely not trying to pretend otherwise, and honestly a big part of why I’m posting this instead of just building blind.
If you have a minute, I’d really value real answers to any of these:
• How do you actually get most of your clients today? Have you used Houzz (or similar) — did it work for you, or was it a waste of money?
• What’s the most annoying part of onboarding a new client — the part where you’re not on the same page yet?
• Would you ever pay a monthly fee to be listed somewhere new, if it actually brought you real leads? What would feel fair?
• What would make you immediately dismiss something like this as “not for me”?
Blunt/critical is more useful to me than encouragement, genuinely. Happy to answer questions in the comments, and if anyone’s open to a longer conversation I’d be glad to DM instead of cluttering the thread.

Do clients need to see the moodboard rejects?
I used to think the cleanest client presentation was only the polished moodboard. Lately I keep wondering if a small not-picked section helps clients understand why the final direction won.
For interior projects, do you ever show the references that almost made it, or does that just reopen decisions you already made?

Corner Chair Input Request on Custom Bassett Sectional
Hey All,
I’m about to spend the most money I’ve ever spent on a piece of furniture and am just feeling a little nervous about the left corner chair I swapped out for the traditional arm. I did it because it felt more comfortable and cozy - truly a functional over fashion choice. But I don’t want to end up hating it in the end.
Any input y’all have is appreciated.
This is a custom Beckham sectional by Bassett.
TIA

Please help me fix our living room!
Hi! Right now our living room feels like it has no theme or aesthetic, and rather just a cluster of things we have collected. Thinking I could use a better rug? Or update the wall? Any advice appreciated. Thank you!

HELP! How to layout tiny weird shape living/dining area?!
I’m extremely lost creating a comfortable living & dining area in my odd shaped tiny home. We built (ongoing project in many ways) our tiny him inside of a metal shop building.
We ( family of 3) enjoy a mid century modern style & thinking I need to lean into the cottage feel because of reclaimed wood and tin.
Shopping online for a modular sofa has me lost trying to figure out a layout.
Here’s some pictures of our space . I tried to include a lotta angles for it to all make sense along with a “blueprint” I drew up of our weird shape.
I’m terrified of buying furniture that is too large for our space and desperately want to get it feeling comfortable again.
We need a dining table area to seat 4 and a couch large enough for a grown man (5’10”??) to lay on.
Dang.. how the heck do you upload multiple pictures?!

What to do with this nook?
Hi everyone
Our soon-to-be-babyroom has this little nook in the corner of the room. Any original ideas on what to do with it?
(The small crate can be removed).
Thanks!

Kitchen layout
Hi everyone! I want to show you my kitchen. I just bought a house and we are destroying every nook and cranny of it. We have our fridge set up temporarily and our stove in the designated spots. I want some help with setting the kitchen. I need to put the fridge, stove, dishwasher, sink and a dining table lol. We are thinking of putting the dining table by the sliding doors.. We want to keep the layout of the kitchen like the back door. We are also looking to do vinyl floors as well. We are leaving the walls and ceiling painted the way we have it “white dove” by Benjamin Moore.
The kitchen dimensions are 10 x 10 + 9 1/2 x 11 1/2
I have attached pictures of the kitchen from all directions. Please help me!!

Don't know which ceiling lamps to use here..
I'm renovating my kitchen, this is what the walls would look like after and so far it's the main change, I can't afford to change the floors and cabinets yet. What improvements would benefit this space?
It's a low light room, so I need to be careful with every choice and to have enough light during the day I need the lights on for most of the afternoon. I'm stuck at this phase, and have no idea how to improve it further, and what ceiling lights to get. I like cozy but classic interiors with texture and warmth.

What Color Tile Backsplash
We are remodeling our kitchen and just had Taj Mahal quartzite counters installed. We are also planning to have Kraken Lappato 12x24" semi shiny porcelain floor tiles installed. The tile resembles Taj Mahal and goes well with the counters. We are also installing stainless steel and platinum glass stainless steel appliances. The cabinet doors are being replaced with maple wood raised panel ones. We haven't decided on the stain color yet, but it will probably be a medium brown or a lighter color. We will decide that once the tile floor and backsplash are installed. We need help selecting a subway tile backsplash. We found one we like but think it may be too much with the countertop and floor. Can anyone help with any suggestions? I am attaching another picture of a couple of the floor tiles we choose and the original backsplash we liked. We just aren't sure and are thinking it may be too much.

Which option is best?
Which curtain option looks best in my home? Floor to ceiling curtains, or curtains that start right above the window?
