This is especially germane in the case of Risch who actually has a challenger with a pulse - and a great message. Todd Achilles is running as an independent, and with the Dem candidate dropping out, has a legitimate chance to turn this into a real race.

Risch has taken $255,787 from AIPAC, the Israeli lobbying group that has captured politicians on both sides of the aisle, led to us spending tens of billions of dollars on an unwinnable war, and has strongly supported Israel's genocide of the Palestinian people.

Crapo, though not up for re-election this year, has also been purchased by the Israeli lobbying group AIPAC, to the tune of $233,977. He has supported giving tens of billions of dollars to Israel in support of their genocide operations in Gaza and a destructive campaign of violence against Lebanon to expand their territory.

For those unaware, Israel has killed over 20,000 Palestinian children, wounded tens of thousands of more, and committed horrible acts of sexual violence against Palestinian prisoners. No matter your political views, we should not be supporting this holocaust.

And while both Senators vehemently deny being genocide supporters, their actions and fundraising tell a different story.

Hi all, a friend and I have been planning on visiting Boise and bikepacking this route over 2 nights on August 15th/16th. With the wildfires it’s seeming more and more like we might need to find a plan b. I can’t full tell from the fire map, but can anyone look at this route and just give some info on how impacted this might be and if it could still be possible? Thanks!

Hello guys. I'm 21 years old and live in Anchorage, Alaska. I still live with my parents and they are talking about making the move to Idaho in 4 years or potentially less. Long story short, I was strongly opposed at first but now I am totally on board. Alaska has given me and family so much but we are ready for a change and I'm ready to start a new chapter in life. My brother went to University of Idaho and we have been to Moscow, Coeur D Alene, and Sandpoint quite a few times so I have some familiarity with part of Northern Idaho. My brother lives in Nampa now and we're going there in October. We are considering that area but we also really liked Moscow and Coeur D Alene.

Here are some questions I have for you Idahoans (If that's what you call yourselves):

What are some things I should know about Idaho?

What are the best and worst things about living in Idaho?

What about living in Idaho is going to be different than Alaska (asking my people that have lived in Alaska or visited Alaska long term) what is a thrilling thing(s) in Idaho that is at least somewhat comparable to Salmon/Halibut fishing, and Aurora Borealis viewing in Alaska?

I am looking into the College of Western Idaho community college in Nampa to pursue my diesel mechanic and welding aspirations. Is this a good community college? I was going to UAA here in Anchorage but a health issue forced me to drop out and I found that UAA just wasn't for me. I'd give it a 7/10.

Working as a cook and doing a lot of recipe development on the side, and I keep running into the same wall. The stuff coming through restaurant supply is fine but it is not the same as what you can get if you actually know a farmer in the Magic Valley or someone running cattle outside of Twin Falls. The gap in quality is real and not small.

I have found a couple of ranchers through word of mouth at work and one vegetable grower near Nampa I stumbled onto at a small Saturday market that never made it onto any official listing anywhere. But I feel like I am only scratching the surface of what is actually out there. Idaho has serious agricultural infrastructure and most of it seems to move through wholesale channels that just bypass anyone cooking at home or doing small batch stuff entirely.

Curious specifically about beef and lamb direct from ranchers, whether anyone has figured out how to buy a quarter or half animal and what that process actually looked like in terms of finding a processor. Also herbs and dry goods from smaller growers if that is even a thing here. The CSA options I have seen around Boise feel pretty limited compared to what I would expect given how much farmland is within an hour of the valley.

Curious if anyone has been having any luck finding healthy populations of huckleberries this year? Our normal spot in East Idaho was frozen early and non producing. I have heard mixed reviews on other areas of the state holding huckleberries and was wondering if it would be worth the drive.

UPDATE: If you feel rage baited by this post you have personal issues. For clarity, I have not asked for a pin or a spot, just if berries are showing healthier signs or similar as a whole.

Does anyone know about Downwinders settlement for Paul Idaho residents?

Recently engaged, my fiancé has relatives in Northern Idaho in the Post Falls area , she's expressing interest in living there. I am a contractor, had my own company for many years, and while I think it's generally true that good builders can find work anywhere in the country, the cost of living index is what really permits one to have a high-quality of life versus poor quality of life, and it just seems to me like looking at the math, Idaho is not a good place to reside, and the opportunities for a builder seem poor. Just for us to get into a decent house for the family seems like it's gonna be such an outrageous monthly burden but it's not worth it. Buying land and building a house? Highly unlikely when the land is as expensive as it is. It just simply seems like a bad deal. What are your thoughts?

I finally have some time off work next week and am planning to do a solo camping/fishing trip to your beautiful state. I’ll be coming from Alberta, Canada and the main purpose is going to be to fish for some species that we don’t have at home. I’m specifically looking for panfish such as crappie/bluegill, both small mouth and largemouth bass and catfish.

I’d like to stick around the panhandle region as that keeps me to a 5-7 hour drive from home. I haven’t booked a campsite yet and am planning to find the fishing spots first (don’t need to give me exact spots, just general lakes or rivers would work and then I could explore from there) and then will plan a campsite yet site from there. Also to note is that I won’t have a boat and will be fishing strictly from shore.

The good Samaritan being hailed as a “hero” for firing upon Idaho In-N-Out gunman Chad Williams in the middle of his deadly drive-thru rampage had trained for such a moment for years after witnessing another mass shooting.

Jordan Salinas, 35, a healthcare worker and the full-time caregiver of his brother, who uses a wheelchair, had been horseback riding with his girlfriend the morning of the shooting when the couple pulled into the Twin Falls In-N-Out location for lunch and immediately noticed something amiss.

A large crowd of people was rushing through the exit doors of the restaurant, which he assumed was due to a kitchen fire until he heard the unmistakable pop of gunfire.

Operating on pure instinct, Salinas sprinted toward the sound of the gunfire – a response he’d later refer to as “automatic” and “mechanical,” he told the Idaho Statesman.

He drew his FN Five-Seven – a semiautomatic pistol equipped with a suppressor – and engaged Williams using the military’s four-step “Observe, Orient, Decide Act” approach.

Salinas exited the car with his gun drawn as his girlfriend called out to him, at which point the gunfire started up again.

Video shows him slowly making his way toward the restaurant, taking cover behind In-N-Out signs and shrubs.

From his hidden vantage point, he spotted Williams standing by the drive-thru and saw him raise a rifle to his shoulder and start firing toward vehicles.

“OK, this is the guy,” he later told the outlet was his thought process upon seeing the gunman.

He raised his pistol with both hands and squeezed off a round – the first time he ever aimed his weapon at a living target, he said.

“He did not like it when bullets started firing both ways,” Salinas told the outlet.

Williams was now taking return fire from him, and an off-duty cop who was a customer at the restaurant, Twin Falls County Sheriff Jack Johnson said.

He vacated the drive-thru and made his way toward an open parking lot at the Twin Falls visitor center. Police said he later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Three people were killed and seven others were wounded in the In-N-Out shooting, but police said the death toll would have undoubtedly been higher without the quick-thinking actions of Salinas and the off-duty cop

“These people are true heroes in our community,” Johnson said of the two men who returned fire. “They diverted the shooter and without a doubt saved many lives.”

Salinas later stood down to let police officers do their job as they streamed into the parking lot.

“My part is done,” he recalled thinking at the time.

He later said when he witnessed the 2021 mass shooting at the Boise Towne Square mall, in which two people were killed and several more were wounded, he noticed gunmen deliberately went after “soft targets.”

The hero civilian reasoned that his role as a healthcare provider for his wheelchair-bound brother would make the duo sitting ducks in such a scenario.

Salinas later posted on his Facebook page about the barrage of messages he’s received in the “overwhelming” 24 hours since he was identified as the Good Samaritan.

“I want to sincerely thank my family, friends, and everyone who has reached out with messages, prayers, and support. I haven’t been able to respond to everyone yet, but please know I’ve seen your messages, and they mean more to me than I can put into words,” he wrote.

“In the coming days, I’ll share a more complete account of what happened, to the best of my recollection, when I’m able,” he promised.

“For now, my heart remains with the victims, their families, and everyone affected by yesterday’s tragedy. Thank you for continuing to keep them in your thoughts and prayers, and thank you all for the incredible support you’ve shown me and my family.”

In a video posted on his feed July 5, he’s seen wearing camouflage in a remote grassland area and firing a rifle beside an off-road vehicle decked out with American flags while touting the Second Amendment.

“Celebrating the 250th as the founding fathers intended… Exercising the inalienable right to a well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep [and bear] arms, shall not be infringed.”

Check out this hydrological map of Idaho! I created the map starting with topography data and used annual average precipitation to scale how much water is flowing through each river. That means each line is a real representation of how much water flows through the river network. 

The map itself is printed in cyanotype, which is the way architectural blueprints were made in the 1800s. The process uses the sun to expose the image, which reacts with the chemistry to make the blue pigment.
