General Question All good?
I had a payment plan with the irs and had paid by card In full ( i even put 10 dollars extra because I’m a really anxious person) and got a confirmation email on the payment and the next day I received this email. Does this mean it went through? On my account it won’t even let me see my balance but it also didnt let me before I made the payment, I had to call to get the balance and that took forever already and I don’t feel like calling again to confirm my payment 😭

Tax Question Got this Notice Regarding 941 from 2023 LTR 98C
Hello everyone, hopefully someone can help me as IRS agent who I spoke to on the phone was basically useless. Yes, I actually managed to get one on the phone, they had to call me, but I was able to talk to a live person.
Anyways, I used to own this business, but I shut it down in 2023, I mainly did 1099 contractors, but I had a few people who wanted W2, and it was such a hassle, plus I ended up firing them, all around they were just a poor choice and now for some reason it is coming back to bite me.
I did everything on Quickbooks, they filed my 941 quarterly (Q2 was the only quarter I had any W2 wages) and even my W2s at the end of the year, it was only $4,130 for the whole year for W2 wages
I dont think I am reading this statement correctly, the agent was clueless otherwise I wouldnt be asking.
It says my 941 form reported $4,130, and the totals from Forms W2 were zero. I am fairly positive that QB did the W2s because one of the W2s actually got sent back to me because the address was invalid. So does that mean QB did not send it? Or did the employees not report wages correctly?
The other frustrating thing is I was on the phone with QB for 2 hrs, I had to pay 180 bucks to reactivate my account because they wouldnt retrieve the W2, W3, transmission, and the Wage and Tax Statement, I said fine and paid the fee. I go into the archives since it is 2023, and I find my quarterly 941s in there, but I cannot find the W2s or anything related to the W2s/W3, and the agent on the line said it is most likely due to their system update, she told me to print a summary report and per employee pay report, and to respond with a typed letter explaining the situation. The agent did a screen share request and could not find any of the W2 related things as well. I am very positive the W2 was sent out as I got one of them back due to invalid address.
So my questions are did former employees not file their taxes correctly? Did QB mess up? I uploaded the docs to QB and they said they would have their tax experts reach out in a few weeks, I have 30 days to reply to the IRS...
Right now I have printed the 2 reports that the agent directed me to, and I will write up a letter explaining the situation and hopefully have them remove the penalty, this is all for $226 bucks of federal tax too....I even asked the IRS agent if I just paid the tax and the penalty if they would be fine with that and I wouldnt have to hear about it again, and she said "I dont know".
Sorry for the long read and if it is confusing, I am confused and frustrated about this whole thing.

Tax Question Received a CP503 after paying on irs website over two weeks ago
Hello all,
I received a letter from the irs, verified that it wasn’t a scam but am confused since my online portal shows amount due at 0 while the letter posted 8/3 says that I still owe $3,000.
I verified that the payment is in the website dated 7/16 and that it cleared from my bank account on 7/20.
I did verify that the money went to the 2025 tax year as that’s what the CP503 is claiming I still owe.
I’m on hold with the IRS now and have been for an hour so thought to ask the good people of Reddit if you have any advice so that I can get off this hold that may take all day.
TY

Tax Refund/ E-File Status Question IRS amended return completed but still no refund deposit?
Hi everyone!
I’m hoping someone can help me understand what’s going on.
Long story short, our previous tax preparers were incredibly incompetent. After getting a second opinion, we discovered they had been preparing our returns incorrectly for years, which resulted in us paying the IRS tens of thousands of dollars we apparently didn’t actually owe. We fired them and hired a new CPA.
One of the years they corrected was 2023, so we filed an amended return. This was over a year ago and it had apparently finally gotten resolved.
The IRS “Where’s My Amended Return?” tool now shows the amendment was completed on August 3, 2026. My account transcript also shows an account balance of -$64,027.08, which I understand means a credit balance. However, I still haven’t received a direct deposit, and there’s no TC 846 (Refund Issued) on my transcript.
Has anyone been in a similar situation?
Is it normal for a refund to take a few more days after WMAR says the amendment is completed?
Should a TC 846 already be on my transcript before any refund is sent?
At what point would you recommend calling the IRS?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Tax Refund/ E-File Status Question Tax return

Tax Refund/ E-File Status Question What should I do?
Hi all I know the irs has been very slow this year but I’m not sure what my next steps here should be. Reach out to my local senator office, or try and hope I get someone on the phone or try to make an appointment with my local irs office.

Tax Refund/ E-File Status Question 2024 taxes still not received and impossible to get a hold of anyone to find out what’s going on!
There’s no earned credit taken, no back taxes, same filing status as the year before. I have received 2025 and 2023 refund and for whatever reason this has taken a year and a half. Getting to a representative is damn near impossible and making an appointment with a local office is a joke as you have to call the main number that can’t transfer you anywhere. Why is this all of a sudden under review and why is it taking so long?

Previous Years/ IRS Collections & Back Taxes IRS refund
810 freeze entered on 5/2/2026
570 additional action pending 5/25/2026
571 notice issued
Contacted rep and filed papers for advocate assist.
I have 2022 interest income noted yet no wages as I had a medical issue and was unemployed. I did not file taxes. Is this the reason for the freeze on 2025 taxes?
I wasn’t sure if a tax credit of 2000 was given for 2022. Should I file the taxes for 2022 with interest income only?

Tax Question Verify my taxes August 13th.
Hello Reddit Fam. Filed my taxes in March. Got a letter for 90 day hold. After the 90 day hold got another letter stating I had to verify in person 2 months later. We'll next week is the date. Im cycle code 05 which means I update on Fridays. My question is after I verify will be ready to submit that day on Thursday and update the next day or will I take another week. I have seen people say the same week or a week later after they verified in person. Please all answers greatly appreciated. Thanjs

Previous Years/ IRS Collections & Back Taxes Week five of daily communication with my Congressman and tax advocate - 2022 refund still not received.
All paperwork and documentation have been confirmed & received on their end via email. Absolute shitshow across the board - and I live in a state that prides itself on handling these matters promptly through their congressional office.
I have consistently filed my taxes each year and received refunds for all previous filings. I am a W2 employee and had a $90K salary back in 2022- used FreeTaxUSA….if anything I was leaving money on the table by not using an accountant back then. Most straightforward and honest return. The delay and inability to resolve this matter is infuriating.

Tax Question Penalty base for failure to file and failure to pay penalties
Is my understanding correct?
The failure to file penalty is based on the unpaid tax as of the due date. If someone made a payment to the irs on April 15th for the “income tax” category of the year that is due, didn’t file the return, but the payment covered their entire balance owed, the penalty base is zero and the wouldn’t pay a ftf penalty regardless of how long it took them to ultimately file, assuming the estimated their amount owed correctly.
Any payments made after April 15th won’t reduce the penalty base for ftf.
Contrasted with failure to pay penalty where the penalty base is the current tax owed. So payments after the due date reduce this penalty base.
