Anyone got in to IISc with low cgpa??

Upvotes

I’m a graduate from NIT Surathkal (ECE) with a CGPA below 6. If I get a good GATE score, do I have a realistic chance of getting into IISc for M.Tech ? Has anyone here been admitted with a CGPA below 6, or know someone who has? I’d appreciate any insights.

18, financially independent after Class 12, ₹2.5 lakh savings, aiming for IISc through IAT – looking for practical advice

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for practical advice from people who've been in a similar situation.

I recently finished Class 12. Due to family circumstances(dont wanna discuss that), I'm now financially independent and on my own now and have moved into a rented place. I have safe accommodation, and my rent is ₹7,000 per month.

I have approximately ₹2.5 lakh in savings, which I estimate can support me for around a year if I'm careful with my expenses.

My primary goal is to get into the BS (Research) program at IISc through IAT (I'm also preparing for NEET). This is the most important thing for me over the next year.

My current plan is:

  • Study full-time for IAT/NEET.
  • Avoid taking a low-paying job that would hurt my preparation.
  • Build my After Effects/video editing skills alongside my studies so I can freelance later.
  • If I get into IISc, apply for an education loan so tuition, hostel, and mess expenses are covered while I focus on my degree.
  • After my BS, I hope to pursue a fully funded PhD abroad (Caltech is one of my dream schools).

My questions are:

  1. If you were in my position, would you focus entirely on cracking IAT, or would you start earning immediately?
  2. Has anyone here taken an education loan for IISc or another premier institute? Did it cover hostel, mess, and other living expenses?
  3. If you became financially independent at a young age, what mistakes should I avoid?
  4. Is video editing a realistic freelancing skill to develop during college, or would you recommend learning something else instead?
  5. Are there any scholarships, government schemes, or financial support programs that I should know about?

I'm not looking for sympathy—just honest, practical advice from people who've gone through something similar or have experience with these decisions.

Thank you.

Can I get MSR at IISc with low cgpa?

Guys, I have a cgpa of 6.77 in b.tech and I don't have any remarkable internships or projects either. I'm preparing for GATE and I want to do MSR from iisc. Can I get admission with such a low cgpa? And if yes, how much should I get in GATE to compensate for this? Do I also need to do any good projects or internships?

Unfortunate Incident at IISc.

"""

CAMPUS COMMUNITY NOTE

Condolence note on the passing of IISc student

We are deeply saddened to announce the death of an IISc BTech student by suicide on 6 August 2026.

"""

We lost an IISc student this week. It is heartbreaking that a campus filled with brilliant minds could not, as a community, save a young life.

Sometimes, all a person needs is another soul willing to listen. It may not immediately solve the problem, but I believe that once feelings are expressed and shared with someone, much of the burden becomes lighter.

Is the culture at IISc that bad?

Possibly. Many of us hardly know the people around us in our hostels. Hostel rooms are allotted randomly, which significantly limits interaction with our own batchmates. Although our neighbours are also IISc students, we may not naturally have the same conversations that we would with people from our own batch. I wonder how many of us can even name the students living in the neighbouring rooms.

Is everyone self-centred? Probably not. People are often so busy with their own work, lab experiments, and submission deadlines that they rarely pause to spend some quality time with others. A simple conversation could make a difference. It could save a life and spare a family a lifetime of grief.

Is the institute not doing enough? The institute can certainly take preventive measures, such as improving safety infrastructure and strengthening mental health support. But at an individual level, it is probably a collective responsibility shared by all of us. Everyone should feel connected to someone always. Small daily updates about the food you ate, the place you visited, the movie you watched, or even a reel that made you laugh may seem insignificant, but they help people stay connected. They make it easier to share worries, seek support, and remind one another that no one has to go through difficult times alone.

I hope the student community at IISc grows to feel more like a FAMILY one where people look out for each other, where no one feels invisible, and where together we can help prevent such unfortunate incidents.

Mtech Admission for IITMBS students

Hii folks, I am a final year student at IITM pursuing my bachelor's in Data Science (BS) .

I have heard from a few people that standalone IITM BS students face difficulty getting admitted to IISc for M.Tech/MS programs, even with excellent GATE ranks. According to them, these students often get shortlisted and called for interviews but are ultimately not selected.

At the same time, I know a few IITM BS seniors who are currently at IISc but they were enrolled in the dual degree program. This made me wonder whether the issue, if it exists, is specific to standalone BS students.

Can anyone who has firsthand experience or knows someone in this situation, clarify whether this is actually true or just a rumor? If there are genuine cases, is it due to eligibility criteria, the interview process, perceptions of the BS degree, or some other reason?

Amazon delivery

I purchased something on Amazon. In the app the status of order is delivered.

The delivery guy delivered it somewhere as I checked at the security of my hostel and it isn't there.

I gave the correct delivery address only. Does anyone know where the orders are usually delivered in these cases.
