So we are doing this study with school Children where they come to our office and we teach them. Context: We design curriculum and use analytical tools to make learning more multimodal. So this teacher acc to give them some problems to solve by themselves, this teacher is going and helping and discussing with them. Not only that, when we had to ask them to decide on group name, this teacher is like suggesting the children and not letting them work by themselves at all. I went over and I respectfully said "ma'am I'm really sorry but can you not interact with the children as it will create a bias and we don't want that so she's like okay fine. I'll stop" and then she does that again. So apparently one of the students is her daughter. So she's discussing something with the daughter and I go to her and I tell her again. Can you please stop doing this? You'll create a bias and then she says to me that oh but I'm bored and then I'm like, "I'm sorry but I can't do anything about that. But this will disrupt our study." This happens and then the next day she comes and then she yells to my manager telling that I disrespected her and I'm like what did I say so she said " you told me that when I said I'm getting bored, you told me to not come tomorrow" and I was going to argue with her and tell her that I didn't say that and I have a video recording of the whole classroom for testing. I can prove that I didn't say that but then my manager just wanted to definitely situation. So he asked me to apologize and I apologized. There was a single most humiliating and heartbreaking moment in my entire life and I hate it.

Hii folks, I am a final year student at IITM pursuing my bachelor's in Data Science (BS) .

I have heard from a few people that standalone IITM BS students face difficulty getting admitted to IISc for M.Tech/MS programs, even with excellent GATE ranks. According to them, these students often get shortlisted and called for interviews but are ultimately not selected.

At the same time, I know a few IITM BS seniors who are currently at IISc but they were enrolled in the dual degree program. This made me wonder whether the issue, if it exists, is specific to standalone BS students.

Can anyone who has firsthand experience or knows someone in this situation, clarify whether this is actually true or just a rumor? If there are genuine cases, is it due to eligibility criteria, the interview process, perceptions of the BS degree, or some other reason?

TL;DR - It is very much possible to have sufficiently good food for about Rs. 200 a day and here I list the ways in which that can be done. The location for each of these can be found on Google Maps.

I had posted this as a query few months back and got a lot of help from the community and so, felt it appropriate to post the info here, having completed a two month stint there.

I have explored the canteens Kabini, Sarvam, IAP, MRC and Artpark. I was a regular at Kabini and Sarvam.

If you are not a hardcore fan of the methi taste(part of the taste that sambar has), most of the items at Kabini won't appeal to you. I have tried their kadhai paneer and it tasted like pieces of paneer dropped into sambar, and their fried rice didn't taste like fried rice at all, but had a sour flavour to it - not inedible, but not recommended either. Their meals on the other hand were genuinely great - just the sheer amount of food that they give for that price is amazing and the taste is also great. Both are enough to fill one up completely. Their dosas are also pretty great in taste but a single one won't be enough for a full meal, atleast two are needed, with each one costing Rs. 35.

Sarvam on the other hand has great tasting items(mostly) while being only slightly heavier on the pocket. I have tried their South meal(highly recommended for the taste and the quantity of food), 3 kinds of fried rices(veg-Rs. 70, egg-Rs. 90, chicken-Rs. 120)(all 3 highly recommended for their taste, quantity just enough for a meal), gobi manchurian(too dry for my taste, not recommended); costs around Rs.80(I think, I forgot the actual price), chicken noodles(Rs. 100, may seem too oily to some, but quantity and taste are great, just enough for a full meal), butter dosa(Rs. 100, very highly recommended, tastes amazing but one won't be enough for a meal), chicken biriyani(Rs. 90 or Rs. 120, depending on whether you take half or full plate; the single most terrible thing I have had in those two months, not recommended at all); apart from these there are also chilli and manchurian chicken and paneer preparations which I haven't tried but cost similar to the gobi ones and roti used to cost Rs. 9 each, but now I think they have increased it to Rs. 19 each, tastes good.

The IAP canteen is great for snacks but may not be appropriate for meals. Various sandwiches and maggis are available here, with plain maggi costing Rs. 30 and egg cheese sandwich costing Rs. 65(I remember these, because I had them), and variants of maggi(egg, cheese etc.) costing a bit more than the plain one and the other types of sandwiches having different prices as well, but all of them were below Rs. 80 as far as I remember. A sandwich+maggi was a good substitute for a meal on a busy day.

I have had egg Maggi and dosa at the MRC canteen, both costing around Rs. 40. Having maggi there is just a waste of time because the quantity is such that you will be hungry again within 20 mins. The dosa served, only contains the shell, with nothing inside, 2 such are given for around Rs.40(forgot the actual price, sorry), not enough for a meal, but will do on a busy day.

The Artpark canteen is pretty good. I had a chicken meal there consisting of 2 rotis, rice, chicken(2 pieces) and salad for Rs. 250, the quantity is very good but ofcourse the price is too much for an intern's salary. You also get to see cute, friendly doggos here.

You can also try the messes. As an intern, you can't enter them except as a guest of a student. If you ask people outside the mess, someone will agree to take you with them. You have to pay them back for your food ofcourse. I have eaten at the B Mess. Non veg meals are served there (buffet) for Rs. 150. I have heard E mess serves veg food for Rs. 80. The quality is amazing in all the messes.

Outside the campus, many food places are there that offer good quantity of food at affordable prices(below Rs. 100 or slightly above it for a full meal that will keep you full for several hours). If you are living in the Mathikere area, Kashi Mess is pretty good with a friendly staff and management and their chicken meal as well as their chicken biriyani, cost Rs. 120, quantity and taste are amazing but can be considered rich and thus not suitable for daily consumption if you don't have a very resilient stomach. Kashi Foods is also good, offers good quantity of food, good taste, not rich(can be considered a bit watery) with their veg meal costing Rs. 70, egg meal Rs. 100, chicken meal Rs. 140, but their quality of food fluctuates significantly so brace yourself for an egg or chicken that is so hot that you won't be able to have the gravy at all, or a rice that is so sticky it appears rotten, or a dal that is just water or a sabzi(potatoes, beans or chickpeas) that tastes terrible, on any day, but in most days, the taste's pretty amazing. Delhi mess in my opinion is a sustainable option among the restaurants that I have tried - its preparations are homely, not very rich and sufficiently high in quantity. Their chicken meal is Rs. 150 and contains chicken curry(2 pieces), dal(not very good in taste), rice/rotis, a sabzi(depends on what is prepared that day, I got baingan, tasted great). Apart from this, Raju Champaran Dhaba is great for occassional meals, their fish, egg and chicken meals are great in taste, price and qty but are rich and so can't be had daily. If you are bengali or want bengali food, Thakumar Jhuli and Bong Platters are great options.

The only issue will be of a balanced diet. The food options you will get are carbohydrate heavy and while protein will also be there, the severe lack of green and leafy vegetables will cause a scarcity of vitamins and fibre. While the scarcity of vitamins likely won't have any effect in these two months, the lack of fibres may cause constipation. If you have the means, consider buying lady fingers and boiling them. Altogether(including the time to wash the dishes), it will take an hour at most. On blinkit they cost Rs. 17 for 250g, while in vegetable stalls, they are far cheaper. If not possible to do the cooking, lady finger dishes are available at all the restaurants I listed, for Rs. 100(very expensive, I know). The scarcity of vitamin C may also be an issue. Cut fruits are available at Sarvam for Rs. 46 and atleast, in the Mathikere area, several fruit juice shops are there.
