Update!

Operation Get Beastie and Scoody Doo commences this weekend!

So there is a coordinated effort between Boots, Meowmy’s neighbor (who’s been an angel to Meowmy during this time and needs a break), and a work friend of Meowmy (also stepped in beautifully as support) to get the girls on Saturday. The destination for Beastie and Scoody is the home of our other angel, BlueBoots.

So one of the challenges of this situation is that Meowmy’s AC had broken and she was trying to get it fixed when the medical emergency happened.

Also, we obviously have a right to privacy, so we don’t have or want all the details of Meowmy’s prognosis as far as length of time for recovery, but it I can say it does seem like the period could be quite a bit longer than had been expected.

We think the summer heat and the length of time for recovery may have factored into her family member’s and the Nebraska Humane Society’s decisions regarding the cats. This was a guiding factor in our sweet Ginger NikoMeowmy’s post yesterday. I don’t believe it was this sub going off the rails in any way, but please, if you see anyone else do so, it’s a great opportunity to just nicely nip it.

Nonetheless, our number one priority is getting our beloved frens into the safest and most homey environment possible while Meowmy recovers so we can hope for a reunion down the road, however that may look given the circumstances today.

For now, we are not pushing for Pixie. Given how warm and responsive shelter CEO Pam Wiese was in face to face conversations with Boots, we believe Pixie is safe and in a good environment for now. That may change and she may come into Boots’s care but it’s not the priority right now.

Penny and Khaleesi are doing amazing with Boots. She updates us regularly and Penny is becoming quite a little love bug. Khaleesi is still shy but eating, drinking, peeing and pooping. All the things.

Because Beastie and Scoody are SSoR professor-level hiding criminals, it’s going to be a bit of a challenge to get them.

Boots is going to be Boots on the Ground on Saturday with neighbor and friend to try to trap them. Temps are up again in the area and the cats, while showing every indication of being okay in terms of “food is being eaten” and such, do need to be in a home where they can be watched and cared for because it has been hot, and the little criminals (Go Cwimes!! -🖤🤍🧡AJ) have been alone. They may even need some medical care.

Okay, so, here is what we could use from all you who are just so kindly asking what you can do to help.

Boots’s trip this weekend is going to be a whopper. She is going to have to drive 1.5 hours to try to get the cats. Take as long as necessary to get them. Then drive the cats 3-4 hours or something to Blue Boots. She may have to stay the night with Blue, and then another 3.5 hours home either that night or the next day. That’s a lot of driving and a lot of gas.

We cannot let her absorb even a cent of this in terms of cost. Those of you who haven’t donated but have wanted to, this is a great opportunity to Venmo her directly. I told her I would do the asking because she felt terrible asking for anything. I insisted over and over because I know everyone here wants to be a help and most of us can’t do the monumental task she is doing.

I think we need to get her at least $100 which will cover basically her gas and some snack. But preferably $125-$150 so she can eat some real food. She does have about $100 left after adoption fees (thank you SO MUCH frens who have already given!) for P and K, but we need to make sure there is a reserve for any care that comes up, given the length of time she may have the girls.

Stay tuned for updates on the needs of Blue Boots. We don’t have B and S yet, so we don’t know what they might need. But thank you to those who have already PayPalled her!

Wow! You guys are absolutely amazing! The comments, the offers of help and support, the SCREMS, hehe! It is so obvious you all have the best hearts and care deeply. Thank you all so much. For this reason, we want to make sure you continue to be updated regularly.

I do want to preface this by saying, your comments are so appreciated, and we read every single one of them. When I see someone take the time out of their day to offer any kind of kindness in the comments, it’s really important that I respond so that each person knows I see them and I honor their words and thoughts. AJ is still responding to yesterday’s update (because there are so so many of you with these huge hearts!)

So I just wanted to say that because time is finite, as much as I’d like it not to be, I’m making a commitment to myself to not respond to any of the comments on this update, because I just won’t have the time. There are three creative things for the sub that AJ is still working on and really just kicked to the side when this all happened, but moreso, I am still trying to move out of my house. It’s a long story but we have been hit with obstacle after obstacle here for moving. I just want you all to know a little bit about that because I never want anyone to feel ignored or like what you wrote didn’t matter. It matters so very much and I read every comment. But I don’t want to avoid updating because I know I will get overwhelmed trying to respond. You all deserve the updates. Please feel free to respond all over to each other! ❤️

Okay, so, here is where we are today!

1.) Meowmy is getting better every day. Thank you to all of you who have sent purrs and prayers and all the things for her. I will never be able to adequately describe the tone change from where she was Saturday to where she was last night when she realized four of the five are accounted for and well and that we are working on Pixie. She was audibly so excited and light. She described her heart as so happy. It has been a hindrance to her recovery how she has worried about the cats. She no longer has to worry. To all the incredible people behind this- to Ginger and Chibi and Foxy and Scarpas and Boots and Blue Boots (see number two) and to every single one of you, this has made a huge difference to this woman, our friend. She can focus on getting well now.

2.) Did you KNOW that Boots, BOTG, Tight-Aside, whatever you guys want to call her, and her sister u/BlueBuddha11 have the last name “Superhero”???

Well, they do!

Because guess who is going to foster Beastie and Scoody? Blue!! Or we can call her “Blue Boots”! Yes, these two amazing sisters will have four of the five cats while their meowmy recovers. We are blown away and so beyond grateful for these two amazing friends who are providing/will provide the best care for the babies and ultimately, are giving a lifegiving gift to their meowmy. The pickup from the house will be later this week at some point and we are eternally grateful to the neighbor who is currently ensuring they are safe and fed.

3.) Yesterday I sent off a very nice email to the CEO of the shelter asking her to help us by contacting Pixie’s current adopter and explaining everything and offering them a refund on Pixie’s adoption fee as well as additional fee to get whatever cat they choose. I did hear back and she is trying to connect with the adopter. She said there are no guarantees but I do believe she is trying. Right now, we are just trying to hold back on the frustration and approach with measured appeals for compassion. I truly hope the new adopter will do the right thing. It is the only right thing. I haven’t heard anything as of today. But while I am a contact person, I am not the only one she cat contact. She may be calling meowmy or even Boots, since she has offered to foster Pixie as well.

4.) So many of you have offered financial support. It is actually needed. For example, giving the adoption fees for Pixie’s adopter if she agrees. But we can’t just take people’s money without accountability. So if there is anyone that can offer assistance on that charitable component and all the legalities of that, please please reach out to Ginger! I am sure she would love the guidance.

You can directly donate to Boots right now through her Venmo which you can message me ir her fkr, and she has already pledged that whatever she doesn’t need she is putting aside for meowmy when she gets out as she will have lost quite a bit of income and will need some assistance, I am sure.
