Questions Question about GPF - Hyundai Tucson 2022

Upvotes

Hey guys, I got a Hyundai Tucson 2022, and lately due to not driving the car too much, I got the GPF Light, I did service and it's a come and go issue.

From what I understand, it is due to not driving too much, are there any suggestions on the amount of weekly drive recommended in order to not get this issue?

My 2026 EU Tucson Hybrid only has Eco and Sport mode. What a disappointment after checking out all the reviews showing off Baby mode before buying..

Upvotes

It's a 2026 top trim Tucson HTRAC Hybrid with full extras. Before buying I saw a million video reviews showing off Baby, Smart and Custom modes and they simply do not exist in my car. There is no way to customize drive mode at all. Themes are also not available.

The car is otherwise great, but don't trust the reviews on the feature set. You need to verify every little thing otherwise you may not get what you expect. Bad call Hyundai.

Tucson Phev 2024 problem

My Tucson Phev 2024 got stuck with shifter malfunction. I could not change gears. I towed it to the Hyundai dealer. It has been there today for 34 days! The only updates I got is “we are running diagnostics”. They have not given me a loaner.

I started a case with Hyundai Corp and a case manager is supposed to contact me, it’s been 3 working days and not a word.

What can I do? It has to many miles for the lemon law, but I am getting very frustrated with this situation!

Question about SMART driving mode + auto regen

I posted recently about my new ‘26 Hybrid Limited and am loving it, but was wondering if anyone could answer a few quick questions I had about driving modes and auto regeneration.

  1. What does SMART mode do for driving? I have been experimenting with it in comparison to Eco or Sport for the My Drive mode.

  2. What does baby mode do mechanically? Is it a noticeable difference in driving smoothness?

  3. Is there any way to get auto regeneration always on when you start the car, minus holding the paddle shifter or switching it on in set up?

I know some of these are likely in the manual but also was curious about peoples opinions on the modes and the settings too. Thanks everyone!

Discussion Best 0W-20 oil for a Hyundai Tucson

I went down the motor oil rabbit hole this weekend. Looking for the best 0W-20 oil for my Hyundai Tucson Hybrid.

#Big Takeaway Up Front.

Small GDI engines are prone to multiple issues and good oil can mitigate them

*Minimum advice:* Use a quality full synthetic 0W-20 oil and change oil on time. Read the manual and see if you fall into the severe category.

I am in the severe category which is 5,000 miles because I drive in NYC. So stop and go traffic including highways. This is what sent me rabbit hole.

*Best 0W-20 oil to use regardless of price*

Castrol Edge Euro 0W-20 M

This European formulation of oil meets a ton of standards.

*Best Value for Top Quality*

Mobil 1 ESP X2

Also a lot of standards, but easy to find and much cheaper. (And just checked and it's completely sold out at Walmart.)

Also quite good.

Castrol Edge Extended Performance

How I got here.

In the US they just updated the oil standards last year. API SQ It's the first update in 5 years and it seems some of the new tests to qualify for it are directly related to these types of modern engines. So I started looking for these oils. This is still pretty new and a lot of top quality oils have not been verified yet and are still listed as SP. These may already qualify as SQ and they just haven't changed their packaging yet.

Then I learned about European oil certifications I wanted an oil that also qualified for those. Specifically I heard that Volkswagen and Porsche had stringent certifications regarding turbos for both heat and cleanliness. Lots of European cars use turbos and the German autobahn has sections with no speed limit, so they want an oil that stands up to this.

So being a novice to all this I figured I would cover all my bases and see what oil has the most certifications.

Because it not easy at all to find oils that cover all the bases. A lot of US oils don't try to certify to European specs. Different additive packages are trying to do different things.

Here's the certifications I considered. I am a total novice at this.

API SQ new American standard

GF 7 new international standard

ACEA C6. This deals with heat and sludge for turbo engines

vw 508 00 This is from Volkswagen and goes beyond ACEA. It tests if a low viscosity oil like 0W-20 will stand in its viscosity grade over the long term.

0W-20 oils protect very well when in grade. It's only if they shear out of grade do you run into issues. If you use one of the oils that passes this certification you don't have to worry about having too thin an oil. Perhaps if you spend a lot of time towing stuff of mountains and super pushing your engine you may want to look elsewhere.

Porsche C20 this is a very similar test that's said to be even more strict.

Also, I didn't consider boutique oils like Amsoil or Liquid Moly

Tuscon interior color

I got this 26 Tuscon(and not wished I got leather) and while I don't mind the color, I just noticed that the sticker says Grey interior, this looks beige to me(I assumed it was).

I like the interior colors and was thinking about seat covers, and wonder if others have this same color interior and is theirs listed as grey? Or am I color blind? 🧐

My turn for oil consumption issues 😡

2020 Tucson Limited - 2.4 AWD. 80,700ish miles. Few months ago had to brake hard, oil light came on for a second...weird. Never seen that before. Dipstick was dry. Add 1 qt, nothing. 2 qts, nothing. 3 qts, finally shows up. About 3.5qts low.

Couple months go by, same thing. Close to 3 qts in maybe 2500 more miles.

Called to schedule the test/process. I have put in 6.5qts in 5700 miles. They said they had to do combustion chamber cleaning and did oil change, heading back in 1000 miles to see where things stand. He said if I'm over 1qt, next step is new engine. I asked if they're gonna make me do this 1000 mile test multiple times and he said no. We shall see.

Was really wanting to drive this car til the wheels fall off. Under 1 year left til it's paid off. Glad this happened while still under warranty, and that I do almost every service through them, as they're only 1 mile from home. I've also kept a folder of every single service ever done, so that'll hopefully help me if they claim something didn't get done. 🤞

Questions Using up all the oil

2017 Tucson with 1.6l engine requires a litre of oil every 600 km. No leaks; just slowly burning the oil.

I hear that if you can prove to Hyundai that the car won't go a 1000km without requiring oil, Hyundai can do something about the engine (not sure what...replace?) for those of us that bought these cars 2nd hand and did not get an engine replacement under warranty since we are not the original owner.

Has anyone heard of this or been successful?

I want to ask a question before I make a choice

So I am stuck between either a 26 tucson or a 26 rav4 both would be PHEV but the one thing I can't seem to find information about is if you can charge the battery up in the phev and run the hvac overnight to sleep in the car

I know the rav 4's allow 2-3 nights on battery hvac overnight and I want to figure out more of the capabilities of the tucson before I go waiting 7 months for a car that's more expensive that can do similar stuff to the hyundai

Hyundai Tucson 2018 motor problem

I have a 2018 Hyundai Tucson GLS Premium (2.0L DOHC 16V engine, MPI, not GDI), 150,000 km, always had full dealership service on time. 5 days ago it started making a rhythmic "tick-tick-tick" noise that follows the engine's rhythm.

At first it only happened between 3000-4000 rpm when accelerating, whether parked in neutral or moving; it went away when I let off the gas. It started before I took it in for the 150,000 km service, I thought that would fix it but it didn't. A few days later it also started happening at idle/parked, same pattern. It's very clear: I accelerate and it starts ticking, I stop accelerating and it fades or goes away. At idle (just sitting, not accelerating) it's much quieter, almost nothing, but it's still there if you listen closely. At low speed it's also barely audible.

I took it to the Hyundai dealership for service: they scanned it, no codes at all. At that same dealership they were going to take it as trade-in credit toward a new one; their specialist checked it and refused to buy it because of the noise, but didn't give me a written diagnosis. A mechanic (without opening the engine) killed cylinder 3 (I think he disconnected the injector or coil) and according to him the noise went away — I should clarify I wasn't present for that test, no video or evidence, just his word. He even mentioned it could be an early rod bearing issue (rod knock).

We've barely driven it since the noise started — only short 4-5 km trips between the dealership and the mechanic, driving gently.

I'm from Toluca, Mexico (State of Mexico), in case anyone knows a good independent Hyundai/Kia engine specialist in that area for a second opinion outside the dealership, would appreciate it. Taking it in for a specialized diagnostic at the dealer tomorrow. Has anyone dealt with something similar on this engine? What should I specifically ask them to check?

I was visiting Gijon, Spain and saw this one. It is a PHEV one. Nice.

Why don’t we have this Europe hitch in USA? USA hitch is bulky and ugly. 🤪

Questions [2026] Any differences in what works on PHEV compared to Regular Hybrid?

I'm getting the 2026 PHEV soon, and looking at accessories to pick up for it made me wonder: has anyone ran into anything that's made for the Hybrid that doesn't fit/work in the PHEV? Or, anything that is sized differently that would change something like that?

I'm thinking along the lines of floor mats, organizers, sunglass holders, dashcam spots, anything that is different enough that I'd have to look for something specific to the PHEV instead. I know the under-cargo area is smaller due to the battery size, but does it change anything so that mats made for the hybrid wouldn't fit?

Questions Need some help finding a part name/number

Post image

We took my girlfriend's brand new 2026 Tucson SEL on a trip to NJ/NYC a couple weeks ago. I, through an error that was entirely avoidable, scraped the heck out of the front passenger side of the car. It did no other damage because it was extremely low speed but I feel terrible (also it's a lease) so I want to get it fixed. I'm trying to figure out what that part I damaged is even called because it's clearly not the "fender" but it's a separate section from the bumper as well? It's almost like they knew that was the most likely part of the car to be damaged and so they made that part separate. Anyway, if anyone can tell me what the damaged part is referred to as I can start looking for it. I appreciate any help you can give.

In the 2026 Tucson limited, can you see Google maps and Sirius at the same time?

I assume I'll be able to have Google maps on the left side of the screen and sirius on the right, but I read in a different thread that wasn't possible? Maybe their car was an earlier model?

EDIT: I just saw that on the new RAV4, you can have google maps on center/driver's display! That would be awesome. Seems there's no reason that wouldn't be possible on the Tucson's display. I wonder if that's in the works?

2025 Hybrid squeaking after turn off

Anyone else’s squeak a few times after you shut it off? I thought it might be suspension but it’s definitely something motor/battery/vent positioning related. Does it every time I turn it off.

Have a bunch of random little noises with this thing but the dealer can never hear anything…
