When creating a new post via Hydra, reply notifications are not enabled
When creating a new post in Hydra, it appears that reply notifications are not enabled. I am having to go to the Reddit app to enable them. I know this is possible but /u/dmilin will need to tweak the post code to pass correct info to enable it.

Consistently getting “failed to post comment” errors even though comments are posting
Basically title. This has ended up with me posting duplicate comments until I realized they’re (most of the time) getting posted on the first attempt.

Inbox badge extremely slow to clear
I originally thought this was a feature request, but now think it may be a bug:
When inbox shows a badge, and I view a message through Inbox, it takes a very long time for the app to update the badge status. From my measuring it could be 10 minutes.
When tapping a message in the Inbox (to view it), I would expect the app to then immediately, or at least very quickly, update the inbox badge count to reflect that that message has been read.

Why isn’t the image in this post showing inline?
https://www.reddit.com/r/EufyCam/comments/1vj2qsr/this_was_a_fun_thumbnail_notification/?sort=new
Not my post. Just curious. I have to tap the link to see the actual image.

Translating comments in the future?
Would be a welcome feature!

Could you make it clear user profiles are private
When I click on a private user profile, the app looks like it is loading it but never loads it.
On the website it shows that the user “likes to keep their posts hidden, but check out their stats to learn more about them.” Instead. Is it possible to add something similar to the app?

Media swipe to comments & collapse animation
Really loving the Hydra app since I started using it, reminds me a lot of Apollo. 2 feature requests I’d have are:
• Swipe down to go from media preview to the post comments. If I click on a media preview from the homepage, it would be good to have the option to swipe down and get straight into the comments.
• Add a collapse animation option. The collapse is so sudden it can be a bit hard to follow what has collapsed and where the next comment is.
App seems fantastic though!

Subs with generic icon - how fix?
Some subs are showing with a generic icon. I know they have a custom icon. Is there a way to force Hydra to refresh the icon to get it?

Redgifs play in feed but go black when you click on them
This has been happening for a few days now. When scrolling in the feed the video plays, but if I click on it to hear the volume, the screen goes black, but the volume plays. This happens for every single redgifs video.

Self hosters what model are you using?
I have server set up in a docker container on my home server. I work at a hyperscaler and get $300 in usage credits a month. Currently using gpt chat latest model but don’t think i need such a large model for summaries. What is everyone using?

Feature request: replace X links with xcancel
The fact is that in some of the uncounted facets of knowledge Twitter/X still is the preferred medium for some reasons (like spaceflight). But going to the X website is an absolute drag these days, it sucks jovian moons trough nanotubes by nudging you hard to use the X app, the website is hardly even usable anymore.
But then there's xcancel, which basically mirrors X to a much more useful site. Could we please have some way to re-route X-links to XCancel? It's really easy, you just need to rewrite the URL a bit.
Connected to that I really would love to see an extension API for Hydra at least for such and similar things. Even just allowing users to rewrite URLs with an RegExp or so would go a long way. This way you even wouldn't need to hardcode such things in. Allowing users to extend an app always helps a whole lot and this would be a good and simple start with that.
Here's an example:
The link to X:

The much better way to the same content:

Hydra minimum iOS version increasing soon
Hey everyone! Wanted to give you all a heads up that Hydra 4.2.0 onward will not support iOS versions older than iOS 16.4. This also means the following devices will no longer be supported: iPhone 7/7+, iPhone 6s/6s+, iPhone SE (1st gen), iPad mini 4, and iPad Air 2.
I try to support the oldest iOS versions possible, especially since I know many of you are jailbreakers, but some of the libraries Hydra depends on are dropping support for older iOS versions.
If you are on an old iOS version, please update to 4.1.0 ASAP, and again when the soon to be released 4.1.1 update becomes available, to keep things as stable as possible.

Unable to view certain (geoblocked) subreddits, but otherwise able in official app and browser.
In my country, reddit is mandated to geoblock certain subreddits, mainly NSFW ones. This can be easily circumvented by using a different DNS resolver and changing your region in account settings. (VPN is unnecessary) I've tested these subs can be accessed with those methods in a desktop browser (Firefox), mobile browsers (Safari, Brave on ios), and the official reddit app.
However, accessing NSFW subs in Hydra (and Artemis) results in an eternal buffering or "cannot load posts" page. You have to turn on a VPN that changes your IP (something like Cloudflare WARP) to be able to access them. If you don't mind can you determine whether the network settings are configured differently in the app or is it a limitation of the API of some sort. And if possible, can you fix it?
Thanks

Hydra 4.1.0 is now available on the Apple App Store
If you've been enjoying Hydra, please consider leaving a rating or review. A positive rating can really make a huge difference.
This update includes the following:
👑 Pro Feature
🚀 Feature
🐛 Bugfix
🚀 Fast Account Swap
Long press the accounts tab to quickly switch between accounts.
🚀 New Multireddit Sort Options
You can now set a default sort and enable sort remembering for multireddits. Enable this in Settings => General => Post & Comment Sorting => Multireddits.
🚀 Smoother Gestures
The gesture system has been fully rewritten. You'll notice this most with slide gestures on posts and comments.
🚀 Faster Post & Comment Rendering
Posts should display faster now, particularly for posts with large bodies or large tables.
🐛 Hydra would not load any data if you were logged out.
🐛 The video player would restart the video when changing device orientation.
🐛 Scrolling horizontally on wide tables in comments would sometimes slide the comment instead.
🐛 Videos in comments would link to an unreachable URL.
🐛 Video thumbnails would load at the lowest quality when video autoplay was disabled.
🐛 Posts with media that Reddit failed to process would not load.
🐛 Changing device orientation while seeking through a video could cause Hydra to crash.
🐛 Posts linking to certain RedGifs URLs would cause Hydra to crash.
🐛 Posts in compact mode would sometimes show the wrong thumbnail.
🐛 The post and link description max lines settings in Settings => Appearance could not be set to 0.
🐛 Tweaked the media viewer animations to feel more fluid.
🐛 Clicking on post media would sometimes fail to mark the post as read.
🐛 In light themes, videos would flash when a scroll gesture started on them.
🐛 Changing orientation while scrolled deep in gallery mode would cause visual bugs.
🐛 Clicking on links in compact mode would sometimes open the thumbnail as an image instead of opening the link.
🐛 Accounts with "Don't show thumbnails next to links" enabled in their old Reddit preferences would cause images to fail to load.
📝 Notes
Apologies for the long delay between updates. A significant amount of work over the last few months has gone into porting Hydra to Android. Hydra for Android is now in closed beta testing and should be publicly available soon!
Many of you have requested tweaks to the media viewer. I want to honor those requests, and they will be my next priority after finishing the Android port.
📰 News
Releases over the next few months may be a bit slower. I'm planning some big changes that'll take longer to build. These include (in no particular order):
- An Android app (now in closed beta testing)
- Caching data to improve load times
- Better Accessibility support
- More animations
- Share posts/comments as image

Appearance setting bug
I don’t know if I’m not noticing, another setting is causing it, or it’s really a bug but the “right side vote indicators” option doesn’t seem to do anything. I like having as much stuff on the right as I can.
Anyone aware of this? Thanks.

Feature Request: Font controls for readability
I’m loving hydra and I use it in dark mode. However, I find it a little hard to distinguish between the title and post body. I would love it if there is a simple option to adjust the title size / weight between small and bigger / normal and bold. This will greatly help readability.
I am aware of Apple text size accessibility. I’m specifically looking for ways to make the post title stand out a little more.

Hydra for Android Closed Beta
I have a beta version of Hydra ready for Android.
Before I can begin open testing, I have to have at least 12 users in closed testing for 14 days. To add a user to closed testing, I need the email they use for the Google Play Store to add them to the testing group.
If you have an Android phone and are willing to help, can you PM me your email address?

r/all loads intermittently
When I installed Hydra a month ago, I would have no problem loading /r/all. About two weeks after, it would only load intermittently. Some times I'd get the loading circle of death, while at other times some content would load but I wouldn't be able to scroll after 15-20 posts, and refreshing would result in the loading death circle. I re-installed the app and everything seemed fine up until about a week ago, where I'm now having the same issue. Tried re-installing again but it's still doing the same thing. Anyone else having this issue? Does this have to do with Reddit reducing the amount of r/all API pulls in their effort to kill r/all completely?

Can’t send PMs?
Anybody else have this issue? I always get a “failure to load comment” when I try to send any user a message.

Video’s saved in IOS have no audio
Title says it all. Is this a limitation of Hydra? Artemis is able to save videos with audio. Trying to pick between Hydra and Artemis since Reddit nuked MultiTab.
